This was an interesting find and I found no mention of it in the forums.

Well, I am quite shocked that not a single person posted the possibility of some other lifeform "building up" the atmosphere for habitation.

Does anyone think this might signify some major event such as a comet, a change in orbit, or some other event?

at that distance from the sun, you would need more than just atmosphere to make it habitable- it's a big frozen ball

but you never know...
