Pretty cool. Although, wouldn't the day on the Moon be longer, not shorter?

Strong gravitational fields make time go slower. Lower gravity makes it go faster. The closer we are to the center of the Earth, the slower the time passes. Time passes a bit slower at sea level than it does on top of a mountain. It passes even faster in our atmosphere.

That would mean the Moon, having even lower gravity, would have a longer day. That's my understanding of it.

edit: I just thought about it more, since time does pass faster in lower gravity, it would make for a shorter day, relative to ours.

Correct, so weak gravitational fields would make time go faster.

shorter day.

Strong gravitational forces would cause slowed time and longer days, while weak gravitational forces would cause faster time and shorter days.

Good to see you, I was just reading an old thread about how you planned to take a break from ATS.

Welcome back!

Why have we not returned to the moon?
It's costly, ok. It's dangerous, ok.
Is there something else we don't know? It's very difficult to get there and we need to do it all over again because we the 'know how' to do the task is long gone.

Thats because the moon beings have told us to stay away

How else can one explain all those lunar probes crashing into the moon .......??

That only comes at moontime. I'm leaving now!

I'm apt to go with the complexity of space exploration.

The technical challenges, and the inherent risks involved in such missions.

Rather than the Moon beings saying "go back home Mr Moon probe".

Andy sticks his tail between his legs and goes back home.

After all whats the point, if there is no "Moon"shine?

Aside from all that Helium 3 and Titanium in vast quantities at the likes of Mare Tranquillitatis of course.

That's apt to become rather desirable at some point in the not-to-distant future.

Iron Sky got it correct in some regards.

A laser.

That shoots from the earth to the moon… say at the same place as earths atomic clock.

Synch time via that laser so moon time synchs to earth time once a day when the laser hits it.

The duration of a second is the same no matter where you are. Just because the primitive spring clock measures different somwhere else does not change this. The primitive instrument requires mere calibration.

I am a simple man. Riddle me this...

Hypothetically, if certain clocks are used to synchronize everything, then couldnt someone just emp or pull the plug on the clocks and their redundant backups to cause chaos?

As far as what time it is on the moon, we may as well just call it whatever we happen to be calling UTC "at the time", because the only reason there is "time" is because there is a moon to begin with.

Depending on whether it's a full moon,
hourglass sand clock . .
me thinks it would still be
a human conception,
like the twilight zone.

CORRECT!!! u r the only person here who said the right thing! "WHAT TIME IS IT ON THE MOON???" THE ANSWER: The Same Time it is EVERYWHERE in the Observable Universe, The Universal-Present-Moment-of-Time is what time it is EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!! Einstein is wrong about Time-Dilation! However, his wrong interpretation of time led us to a simple truth about how to measure time and that truth is that Gravitational Time-Dilation exists which is why clocks read different times in different gravity, BUT NOT because Time-Dilation A.K.A. Time Travel is actually real!!!! ITS NOT, but Gravitational Time-Dilation is real!!! Einstein is also wrong about Light NOT having any mass & is wrong about Light not experiencing Time as it travels throughout reality!!!

Okay when the moon is in the east Eastern time

When the moon is straight up central time

When the moon is in the west Pacific time.

That way we avoid an all out civil war over rights to the moon

Would that work? IDK

Taking advantage of the clockwise motion of the moon?

Where's my drink?
