IMHO, Its doom porn to think that we will have a planet killer out of this volcano. People tend to forget that
the last eruptions 70,000 ybp and 150,000 ybp were much smaller than the last super eruption.

Well TA, didn't have much of a chance to do any rounding-up of anyone... All work and no play.
Did get snowed-upon quite a bit though...
Will be headed back for more in the coming weeks, hopefully I'll still have nothing to report seismic-wise - But if I do, you'll be the first to hear

That's cool man, no prob. That looked like an interesting trip after seeing that video. So far no one has offered much in the way of explanations about the high frequency attenuation at YLT. It's possible it could be a lot of things though, including telemetry calibration- so I am not jumping to any conclusions.

Still waiting to hear back on a couple of strange, unusual signatures I captured at YMR on spectro. No one seems to know what they are. But whatever they were, they appeared to be local- only showing up at that station- so no one is too eager to find out, evidently... All I got back was "I agree that is interesting..."

And trust me, to even get that was unexpected. Cause 99.9% of the time, there is a quick explanation, making me feel like a total noob. But we's not a noob no more.

Nope, youse not a noob anymore.
I can say that they just started spring plowing again at the park, I saw that you mentioned snowblowers as a possible cause of the YMR sigs. That would fit, the plows had made it from West Yellowstone to Canyon Lodge by the time I left.
We had to take the longer Old Faithful loop versus the Canyon route on the way out because they don't allow track vehicles on the plowed roads.

ETA: Not so sure about the plows now. After looking at the map, I don't think they were plowing in the area of YMR yet. It's right near Old Faithful where we had to go because the roads weren't plowed there. What date were the strange signatures? 03/02 by chance?

B944 is just plain telemetry error. Been that way for a while now. The public would be better served if the USGS/UU would take those stations down from the webicorder displays page when they know they are malfunctioning, so we don't run into more bogus stories. I would imagine the reasons they leave them up are:

1) Why bother with taking them down when they are probably very busy with other things.
2) A station in error may still be useful for arrivals times, as long as it is still registering seismicity- and as long as its timing is still accurate. They may still use the data from it as auxiliary or supplemental data- but they won't count on it.

As to the date of those signatures at YMR, yes- the first one was 3/1/14 and the second 3/2/14. I got pretty pics if anyone wants to see.

Oh yeah, I watched that lecture a while back and it is very, very good. Lots of very pertinent information for those who believe it is about to erupt soon. Hint, those will likely be disappointed, but you will learn a lot from it. As to the pics, I thought about it, and am not going to post them. Talk to me in u2u, oli, and maybe we can exchange emails and I'll get em to you that way. Not crazy about posting them, lest we get more bogus stories circulating. But you would be one of the few I would trust with them.

Yellowstone's swarmin again. That spot between YNR and YMR opened up with a rapid fire sequence again, seen here:

So far it's small quakes, with highest mag around 1.7 or so. It's just eerie to see so many at once though, one right after another.

EDIT: And of course as soon as I wrote this, it all pretty much calmed down. Ok, so moving right along...

They already have measured the size of the current magma chamber. It's much bigger than the magma chambers would have been that would have caused the eruptions from those times. If it erupted now, it would be at least the 2nd biggest eruption Yellowstone ever had.

its an weak location there couse its also an rim of an older caldera... so an doubble rim... since the 3,9 an coupple of weaks ago its never been quit there

Actually something moderately large (mag 5 ish) just went off somewhere in the region of Yellowstone. Maybe Idaho? Canada? I can't pin it down yet...


I'm leaning toward near Challis, Idaho. Waiting on USGS...
