Social media at it's finest. This new attempt by the FCC to intrude in what we are spoon fed by the media, was crushed by outrage.

Are we starting to see a TPTB being told NO, and their hands slapped soundly as they try to take away more of our Freedoms and Rights?

I hope so...

FCC Throws In the Towel on Explosive Content Study
Intrusive media survey idea had people riled, but it was doomed from the start .

The Federal Communications Commission has pulled the plug on its plan to conduct an intrusive probe of newsrooms as part of a “Critical Information Needs” survey of local media markets.

However, a revised version of the survey could raise new concerns: that it will trade its now-kiboshed news questions for a demographic survey that might justify new race-based media ownership rulemaking.

Evil never sleeps, Des. They'll keep trying from every direction and as quietly as
possible to get what they want. I'm sure by now they want to be able to pull the
plug on all of us when they feel threatened by exposure. Trouble is, the frequency
they feel threatened (and with good cause) is getting rediculously frequent.
If it's the first flag and star, a hundred's not enough.

I think resentment towards government over reach is coming to the forefront.

As an example the whistle blower in this case was actually appointed to the FCC by President Obama.

Any bureaucracy will continue to grow larger and increase its power base. This fundamental truth is the bane of small Government. The only real solution is to disband and start over. While this happens occasionally, it is usually the result of bureaucratic sharks eating / absorbing smaller elements. Homeland Security is the best recent example followed by the TSA.

Hmmm, maybe their scheming or plotting. Sometimes they do it at the same time, I call it scheplotting
.

Didn't they do a family guy episode on the FCC? It was an old one I think but still pretty funny.

Yes, I agree. We as a people, are beginning to say, enough is enough. We may be behind the curve, but we are making some progress.

I know many don't think the coming elections will be any different than previous ones. But I feel a massive change in the air. Fueled by anger and distrust of those currently holding power in DC. I'll go out on a limb here, and predict a very large turnout, that will leave those who would see all of our Freedoms stripped from us, wondering what happened.

They are no going to stop because this intrusion and "study" is coming from the white house, as we know the local media is the one that is under attack not the big conglomerate as those already are following their corporate agenda.

All the FCC have to do is withhold licenses on the small local medias when the news are not what the white house wants to have exposed for the public.

That's a pretty pessimistic attitude. Get angry...damn, get all riled up and mad as hell.

If you want change and transparency...let those in power know you will work towards taking them down if they don't listen to you, and act accordingly. If you do nothing. Nothing changes.

Oh of course 100 percent control huh? Don't get carried away. Some things are real. I've seen it in the Army. You can't hide everything all the time. You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but never all of the people all of the time.

I'll take this as a small win, in a skirmish, not a war..

On to the next. We should dig in though, I feel snipers are moving in. We need eyes. Infiltrate the infiltrators.

Testing the waters................They know what they are doing!

Give it a few months and the same thing will be snuck into a bill that Americans will be screaming bloody murder if the bill isn't passed!

Remember the government shut down???!

They thought they had a good plan. To which we can only reply;

And good riddance to over reaching bureaucrats. May they all rot somewhere really hot.

The whole thing was an illusion to begin with. Why study that which your corporate bosses already control? This just gives the appearance that the government listened to the people and backed down.

Yes the conglomerates are under control of the corporate media, but this is about small town, states and local government media, this ones are still incredibly free and are not many left to begin with.

Attention! Attention! This is the FCC...

This has been a test of the Public Alertness System. This has only been a test. If this had been an actual intrusion of the rights of the people, they would have heard nothing about it...

This is good news. I saw the thread here at ATS the other day and then I saw this story about the FCC intrusion on Fox News this morning. They questioned why not one main stream media source was covering the idea that Obama's FCC was going to put people in their news rooms, basically, "where was the outrage" they were asking. They couldn't believe that a news organization like the NY Times wouldn't have been outraged at the intrusion on freedom of the press. Not one of the big 3 networks covered it either. It really started making me wonder what the heck is going on and why they bow to this guy like that. They'd sell their own souls, it appears.

Could you imagine the response had this idea been pushed when Bush was still in office? Even now, if it were to go thru, would be completely unacceptable should a Republican win the Presidency in 2016.

This is right up there with the Senate Democrats using the nuclear option. Its fine for them right now, but, again, if the Republicans win control of the Senate, the dems are going to throw an ever loving fit over the Republican use of that option.

Of course they're going to throw a fit. It is how Americans are for the most part.

Take the ACA for instance. Even though it was designed by a Republican, people are raising hell because it was passed by Democrats. I can easily see Republicans taking majority control and the presidency in the upcoming election cycles. I would not be surprised at all to see them push for a better form of mandated health coverage, and the Republican supporters who were outraged over the ACA is going to be all for it.

This doesn't apply to just politics either. Do some people watching sometime. Find a mother/father who is berating their child and calling them names. Go over to that person and be in complete agreement with them about their horrid child. That person is going to jump down your throat about how their child isn't horrible.

I've seen it in politics, religion, child rearing, communities, and so on.

As for the article at hand, I'm in agreement with what others have said. They couldn't get away with it this way, so they'll find another. Probably shove it into a bill putting the pledge back into schools or something.

Not quite true. Local media with talk radio and FOX. Those are the two places where you are likely to still get opinions that do not toe the party line perfectly according to the White House. They'll also start looking at ways to curb the blogosphere to stop conflicting information from getting out there, too.

You remember the flap about how journalists that expect media protections need to be licensed? That was aimed squarely at bloggers.
