I’m a City builder/ Strategy gamer and its hard to find anything on the market now that isn’t generic and boring. even my beloved total war series has slided

Wish for a game with:
Epic scale and big maps
Advanced economy
Advanced combat system
Great unit and building variety
No Fantasy crap

with the advancement in computing id thought I’d have my dream game by now but RTS and stratgery games in particular seem to have gone no where or backwards.

Best ones I have so far are Empire total war and CIV IV (heavly modified)

Fallen Enchantress

Source

Just bought it a few days ago, been playing. It's quite good as a 4X game. Although full fantasy.

Also if you're into that then I would highly suggest:

Sins Of A Solar Empire.

That one is entirely non fiction but sci-fi. You'd probably like this one better.

heh... the graphics are extremely "basic" its the game play that's amazing... Don't bother if you're looking for graphics...

but there are literally no limits to the possibilities...

The world is 32million blocks across which is essentially equal to 2x around the earth

theres hundreds of thousands of mods for the game, everything from starwars to lord of the rings... anything you can think of, theres a mod for it...

12 million people can't be wrong... And im a former warcraft player & Game Master
(6 years lol )

Give it a try... its worth it

What kind of joke is this?
Rome 1 w/mods < Rome 2 w/mods

Hello!!?? All TW games are 133t.
Try Shogun 2 'Fall of the Samurai' also.

Graphics are very low on priority with me.

Thats why Im not a fan of Rome 2

Its basicaly a "streamline" (Hate that world!!!) Verison on Rome 1 with a ton of feature removed but with stunning graphics

Rome 1 with the total realism mod does a far better job.

What features did they remove from Rome2 that you thought were needed?
Mods usually cover adding those things back.

But there are so many New features added that were not in Rome 1.
Like mega-naval battles!

I am also a heavy strategy gamer as well, and I'll give you a list of my favorites:

Company of Heroes -ww2 strategy game great for building up large armies, also great campaign

Anno 2070: futuristic civilization builder, economy/population/military manger etc

Endless Space: outer-space empire builder, colonization of planets, starship battles etc

Oldies but goodies:
Empires: Dawn of a Modern World and Command & Conquer Red Alert 2

sorry if some of these don't appeal to you, I'm just giving a friendly suggestion

There's a whole new generation of software being developed, and that's why those games have taken a back seat.

Effectively they are waiting on these new engines to come up before they bother coding any new 4X games of worth.

Nitrous with API being MANTLE.

This is amazing.

I know I know.

Im almost cried as how they have butcherd the total war series. Infact I hate driving past there studios.

I been with the series since Shogan 1.

Better you hear it now than waste £35 on the game then find out how hard it blows

It's the best TW ever made yet. In terms of scale and options.
Better than Empire or Medieval and that's hard to achieve.

With Creative Assembly , IMO, their games always get better.
And the ability to mod easily is rare in this day and age of gaming.
So many games don't even allow modding anymore it's not funny.
