He should have put more faith in the antivenom, than in god. How will his followers justify this?

It was the Lord's will. He was called home at this time for a purpose. Praise the Lord!

Well I tend to believe no one dies before their time myself. We do not get to choose our exit most of the time. Or was it already forseen and accepted as your way to leave if one kills themself?

ALso i do not recall the bible actually saying that gentiles are immune from snake bites. It was METAPHORE for something id wager. Such as the words(venom) someone spits. Liek calling a roman a Snake in the grass who disses you by spitting venom at you to wich you are immune to IF you have faith. Could it actually be that?

No. There is one line in the Bible that says one of the signs that will accompany people is that they will "pick up snakes with their hands."

It never says that if they handle venomous snakes for decades, that one day a snake won't bite them and kill them. In fact, it never even says the snakes won't kill them the first time if I remember right. Just says they will pick up snakes.

I guess the preacher was not so favored by God. One could say that God decided that the preacher was not so worthy of said protection.

Maybe, just maybe, the lesson here is that if you want the protection of the divine, one should not take risks that are up there and should be on shows like the Smoking Guns, World's Dumbest.

Or maybe god said "You should come home since you have learned all you can as a human on earth and spend some time with me instead".

Ok so I looked up a passage about snake handling in the Bible:

Mark 16:18
English Standard Version (ESV)
18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

It says SERPENTS so I looked up serpents in the dictionary:

Link

ser·pent (sûr′pənt)
n.
1. A reptile of the order Serpentes; a snake.
2. often Serpent
a. In the Bible, the creature that tempted Eve.
b. Satan.
3. A subtle, sly, or treacherous person.
4. A firework that writhes while burning.
5. Music A deep-voiced wind instrument of serpentine shape, used principally from the 17th to 19th century, about 2.5 meters (8 feet) in length and made of brass or wood.
6. Serpent Serpens.

I fail to see anywhere that it says venomous serpents. Why couldn't they handle a nice Boa or even a Rat Snake, but noooooooo they have to pick venomous serpents. Life is about choices.

I was raised in a fairly fundamental Christian church but snake handling definitely wasn't part of it. I've often wondered why those who are into serpents focus only on the part of the verse that refers to snakes and leave aside the casting out of demons, drinking deadly poison and healing the sick. Doesn't it seem that the Lord's work would incline them to get all of the sick restored to health and the demons driven out before they start bothering the serpents? If this bunch would just travel to Frankfort they'd find plenty of demons to cast out while the legislature is meeting! That place is infested with snakes and demons.

I've handled live poisonous snakes before and never got bitten. It wasn't God protecting him, it was his skill in handling them. But his handling snakes has nothing to do with Christianity as related to doing Gods work and being bitten by a snake. he deserved to die.

The guy dint die of the bite, he died because he refused treatment as god would save him...

"We're going to go home, he's going to lay on the couch, he's going to hurt, he's going to pray for a while and he's going to get better. That's what happened every other time, except this time was just so quick and it was crazy, it was really crazy," Cody Coots told WBIR-TV.

Matthew 4:5 Then the Devil took Jesus to Jerusalem, the Holy City, set him on the highest point of the Temple,
Mat 4:6 and said to him, "If you are God's Son, throw yourself down, for the scripture says, 'God will give orders to his angels about you; they will hold you up with their hands, so that not even your feet will be hurt on the stones.' "
Mat 4:7 Jesus answered, "But the scripture also says, 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' "

Luke 4:9 Then the Devil took him to Jerusalem and set him on the highest point of the Temple, and said to him, "If you are God's Son, throw yourself down from here.
Luk 4:10 For the scripture says, 'God will order his angels to take good care of you.'
Luk 4:11 It also says, 'They will hold you up with their hands so that not even your feet will be hurt on the stones.' "
Luk 4:12 But Jesus answered, "The scripture says, 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' "

I think the it goes if your just and good they won't bite you. See Daniel & the lion pit. Or I forgot the female saint in Rome who was put to the lions and they turned away etc.

I wouldn't test god or try my faith like this though. If I was in the situation my faith would be testedHi please report to battle, current battle list is open. And please

just to point out :

no matter what definition of serpent is used , how many of this type [ snake handling congregations ] follow the second fragment of that verse ???????? . I cannot find any record of a congregation that does it

its my opinion that religious snake handling is a scam - subistuting a mix of good practice , good luck , knowledge of snake behaviour etc for aledged " protection through faith "

and further they don't injest poisons - because they know full well that the LD100 of a toxic compound is absolute

Some of those people are almost immune to snake bites. Apparently, he wasn't. If you watch some old footage of the show 'Ax Men', you will see a man named Shelby Stanga. He picks up snakes, like the really bad ones(rattlers, cotton mouths) and lets them bite him. He has almost no reaction to it because he has been bitten so many times. I've heard of people like that before so I don't think it's fake.

And how did their bodies react to venomous snake bites at the beginning of that process?

It's still fake. This isn't about building up immunity. This is about people interpreting from scripture they are immune to the venom because they have faith in god.

I attended a backwoods funeral in Jackson, KY about a month ago with my girlfriend. Her aunt had died and we made the trip from Louisville. She told me to expect a different world out there, but being a native of Kentucky myself, and having been in most parts of the state before already, I felt prepared. And I was - until the Pentecostal preacher doing the service got all fire-and-brimstone on everybody. To the people of Jackson however, all that was ordinary.

Although I'm from Kentucky, I am a city-boy from Louisville. Crazy to me how different churches are merely a couple hundred miles away. I had a hard time sitting in on the service as I felt like he was trying to scare the crap out of everybody rather than celebrate the life of one who's crossed over.

In the end though, their conviction is admirable as crazy as it may seem.
