# Light Bending?

I have a question about an effect I realized when observing my shadows several years ago. I noticed that as I brought the shadow of my arm closer to the shadow of my hat, at a certain point, a literal pyramid shaped shade would grow between the two at the closest point.

I tested this over ten times and got the same result.

Is this due to electromagnetic energy literally bending around the objects which are casting the shadow?

It's called refraction.

What's going on with this picture here? Did you reverse the colors? Shadows aren't supposed to be lighter than their surroundings...

I'm having an awful lot of trouble envisioning what you're trying to convey, that white shadow is just throwing me all off.

it's refraction unless you are so huge that you have your own gravitational pull and light is bending as it shoots past you.....

either one is possible....

It's not as you're thinking. Imagine this...

O-)

O = Hat
) = Arm
- = the connection he's refering to.

Hope that helps
