Porn is only like drugs in one way.
its something that government has tried to legislate and controll but has failed.im not surprised that this is happening.
there is no cure for the human condition, people will always do drugs, will always engage in prostition, and as long as there are cameras and film, people will always make porn.
this is a fact.
the sooner we realize this, the sooner our world will be a kinder, better place.

I think Bill O'Reilly should sponsor a roundtable of Catholic Priests on his show to discuss declining moral values in the Blue States.

I'm sure the liberals' lack of morality has something to do with pornography addiction. Can you say "falafel"?

lmao. This sounds like the exact same bulls* arguments that people had when tv first came out. Tv rots your brain, Tv causes cancer, Tv promotes violence, Tv promotes sexual deviance, Tv causes impotence. Man some people need to get a life

although i think porn is a healthy, normal human product(as long as it's JUST humans), however, i object to this analogy because television DOES do all those things.

Look whatever turns you on ... I do however object to spam porn links especially if they appear indiscriminately in email accounts including kids hotmail accounts. It would probably be near impossible to regulate this, but perhaps some regulations are needed for porn sites, for example - no in your face porn pics on the home page of a site that a young child might accidentally go to. There should be a warning or classification on the homepage so that you have a choice of proceeding or not.

I think its pretty sad that porn has become 'normal' viewing material, especially as a lot of them are degrading to women. Kids who accidentally (or not) viewing these sites may think this degradation is normal.

Man, I want to be the one that creates believable, realistic virtual reality porn! I would pass up Bill Gates in about two years! I know one thing, the minute I can put a suit and goggles on and enjoy an interesting evening with Monica Bellucci I'm quitting my job and becoming a hermit

I can see where porn could cause some problems in a marriage or close relationship. I have had friends that have become so addicted to it that they would rather look at porn than "spend time" with thier husband/wife. A real big problem is the live chat rooms or cam to cam (cu seeme) sites that actually let you talk and see people. Let's face it, sex is the one underlining power that drives everyone (under the age of say fifty) in life and these sites feed that hunger especially if you don't have a significant other.

I don't necessarily think that's the case. If someone is sick enough to rape another person I think they would do it whether they had access to porn or not.

It's kind of like saying banning guns will decrease murder, hey if you want to kill someone bad enough you'll do it whether you have a gun or not.

Well, back in the old days, really the only accessible pronography was...

There is a lot of research lately funded mostly by right wing groups that suggests pornography is attractive to humans as arousal causes the brain to produce endorphines and other plesant chemicals and that 'rush' can be addicitive, but would indicate correlations with addictive behaviors as well I'm sure. Funny to mention however is that the same research also shows that same process and even addictive properties in reacting to favorite foods, music and other activities. Guess Fun is a sin if it's chemically addictive, endogegnous chemicals or not...

If tv promoted violence, sexual deviance, etc etc, then tell me how after 24yrs of watching tv my "cancer riddled" body hasn't gone on a rampage. In fact, if tv promotes violence so much, then what abotu sites such as ogrish and -------------------------? I've seen some of the sick stuff on those sites, so surely that must mean any minute now I'm about to go rambo on everyones buttocks.

Tv for mentally stable = entertainment, informative, interesting. Tv for mentally unstable = influential. Radio for mentally stable = entertainment, informative, interesting. Radio for mentally unstable = suggestive. BOOKS for mentally stable = entertaining, informative, interesting. books for mentally unstable = dangerous, could promote violence, sex, etc... see the trend here?

99% of people need to stop blaming everything but the people that comitted a wrongfull act/themselves for their own actions.

I killed my father! Don't blame me! It was the lyrics to a song I once listened to! No wait! It was that photo I saw on -------------------------, no hang on, sorry, I just remembered, it was that graphic murder novel I read...actually, maybe it was my memory of that school fight I witnessed, or the fact my boss fired me because I was pathetic at my job and never turned up to work.

Ah no, I've got it now, It was the GODs fault. Yes, that's it. It's his fault because he made me defective with no self control and anger issues and fully knew I would kill my father. I'm going to sue god now for selling me a defective brain and letting the guy who invented the gun I used invent it, and the guys who invented the bullets for the gun and so on and so forth. But honest! I'm innocent! It wasn't my fault that I aimed the gun and pulled the trigger with the full intention of killing my father!

wow. that was a lot of words that didn't say nearly as much as this....tv mirrors humanity.
look at the change in censorship laws since only twenty years ago. or fifty for a real gap.
dick van dyke and mary tyler moore weren't allowed top have a double bed and they were MARRIED! you had to say 'darn', not 'damn' back then. slowly, over the last fourty years, more and more blood and violence, and WAY more sex, has crept through the censors. i couldn't believe 'the sopranos' when i watched part of it for the first time, yesterday. this hot latina chick was completely nude(she had a great set, too), and we got to watch her ride the gangster for a good long eyeful. man, she was hot!
so, that's on your squeaky clean 'normal' media. the glorification of the criminal, and the temptation of sex, with nothing left to subtlety or the imagination. the image nation has suffered a hostile takeover my the bairdboard bombardment screen.
tv rots the mind. this is obvious. it is a passive form of 'education'. studies have shown that watching television is similiar to being hypnotised. A.D.D. is a 'disease' that is the result of the constantly flashing context of the advertisement(brainwashing) box.
tv has taken people out of 'communities' and put them into 'cocoons'.
PBS, satire and cartoons are the only worthwile thing on the box.

I love old movies, I wish I could get away with smoking 60 a day, downing neat shots of whiskey with my mates, and hopping straight in my car. I wish I could just grab a woman and kiss he regardless of her struggles...

And great classics like the black and white minstrel show...

but seriously...

New TV reinforces some pretty bad stereotypes as well, but most often it doesn't try to glamourise ugly behavior like old TV did...

'the medium is the message'.
the content of television is not nearly as signifigant as the impact the medium itself has on the masses.
'the medium is the massage'
and now, 'the medium is the mess age', and 'the me dium is the mass age' ('dium'=titular seewww.catholic-hierarchy.org..., and www.hyperdictionary.com...)

television miniturizes and mocks reality, and 'massages' the masses into apathetic complacency.

get mcluhan.

haven't read the whole topic, but just wated to say that if anything porn is good for people who use computers all day long, masturbating is often the only exercise they get, do you really want to take that away? I once heard that simply staring a pair of boobs for 10 seconds burns like 10 calories or something. LONG LIVE INTERNET PORN! hehe, as long as it doesnt exploit people, i hate that stuff.

I actually think this is BS! and yea I agree this could be a step towards some scary internet regulation, as well as anti-porn legislation. Both of which I am ferverently against.

Lol, so she says Ponographic images stay in the brain forever huh? If that were true, then I bet America's college students, myself included, wouldn't have room to remember their own name.

At least you can't get AIDS looking at porn or by masturbating. Who wants to have to say they were wounded in the Sexual Revolution?

The term we are looking for here is compulsion or obsession or both. You cannot become addicted to naturally occuring chemicals in the body. There are a lot of activities that will give you a rush, not the least of which are those that produce adrenaline. Using the term addiction is not clinical and exposes the political objectives of the critics.

I am not here to defend pornography, its use, or the activities portrayed therein, but if these clinicians can't get the vocabulary right, then they need to go back and take a few survey courses.
