Just a quick story. 2 years ago I went to a local bank with 10k from my personal safe. I wanted to buy a multi-family investment property. The 10k was the down payment. I sit down in the loan officers office and he asks me what kind of down payment I will have. I placed the money on his desk. He then takes it puts it through a counter and it gets banded. He then hands me a form to declare how that money was appropriated. I asked him whst this was for and he says that it's law that all money over 5k be declared. I then tell him that it is from my personal savings. A concerned look came across his face as he put his hands on top of my money and began sliding it towards him. While he was pulling he said something about the patriot act. At this time I very forcibly placed my left hand on his hands and my money and unsnapped my colt with my right. I am very aware of how that situation could have escalated but I was willing to escalate the situation if necceassry. He let me leave the bank with my money. I am not one to go all John Wayne. I am level headed and calm for the most part. This however was different. I saw red. Almost a PTSD like reaction from the bubble burst of 2008. Needless to say I did not get a loan with that bank. There was a credit union more then willing to take my money and give me a mortgage.

Colt? How were you able to just walk into a bank with a gun and not have everyone freak out? I accidentally walked into a bank with my glock on my hip once, forgetting that I was carrying, but I had it concealed under my sweat shirt, so nobody saw it.

Hypocritical of them seen as they were the ones who were involved with drug cartels and money laundering or some such nefarious actions. I can't remember what it was at the time.

That's the reason I have an account with them....

Any older people here who remember a time when it was considered rude to ask any questions about other people's money - along with a woman's age etc.

I see red everytime I have to deal with as I see it infringements into my private world. I bitterly resent having some twerp ask me personal questions that I old-fashionedly consider my business. When I read the post from the guy who took his savings into the bank to use as a deposit and he was questioned about where his money came from no wonder he saw red. And then the bank clerk seemed to have the idea of, in some way confiscating his cash, the impertinence of such an act almost demands a punch on the nose. In this country I suspect the cops would have been summoned.

The unfairness of rules for the very rich - and the rest of us who actually contribute everything to the safe running of this country - now only for the benefit of the elite is unbelievable. I do see a simmering under the surface for many honest, yet beleaguered people who are paying or have paid into the system here all their lives, when its clear there areless and less of the benefits and tax breaks except only for the superich. Then ontop of the insult another is added by trteating the public like serfs which is not why I and everyone else has and does pay our taxes here.

This current world recession is only for ordinary folk, not for the rich and in the West where so much business that keeps country working has been taken over by China, I suppose its only the ordinary folk left that the elite can actually feed off of today. I must admit I wonder when the Chinese are going to wake up and look at what 'going capitalist and becoming the manufacturing hub of the world' is actually doing for the ordinary Chinese and especially their environment.

I had a button down on un-tucked, maybe? I cant really remember. What I do know is most ppl are oblivious unless they have a gun pointed at their face. To much self involvement to notice me having a disagreement with a loan officer.

Time was you could not get any significant sum of money into a bank account, now its like pulling teeth trying to get it out!

Today they don't care where it came from until you actually want it back!

Thats interesting, if you ask me says a lot about our financial establishments.

I'm afraid I'd have to tell the bank, very simply, they have two choices and only two. One of the two things WILL be happening within a very short time.

#1. They can prepare my withdrawal, as requested for MY OWN money.....and I'll be patient if they say it'll take a day. Depending on amount, bank branches often don't keep reserves on-hand 'just because' that will kill a no-notice request for a lot at one time. Depends on the branch in my experience.

#2. They start the measures to immediately close my account and settle the balance as soon as their resources allow for that to be accomplished, as I'll be closing my account...immediately and permanently.

On a lark and just for fun a couple years back, when I had an inheritance/Estate I was dealing with, I'd taken out $40,000 in cash in one shot. It was neat and kinda fun... I have a whole series of photos I took for my own stock use on whatever comes up, of the bundles on my desk. Really, that was the reason as much or more than anything else...just seeing and having THAT much cash in one place, at one time. How many ever get to?? (don't ask what demanded and took most of that for expenses I didn't get choices about...it's not a happy story).

I didn't have to explain or justify my desire to withdraw enough so they threw the bank bag in free...lol.. Nor should I ever have had to. Their ONLY concern should be insuring I AM who I'm supposed to be and I'm not under duress or being forced ..and even that last part better damn well have justification if they determine it as a reason to play games.

IMO people who still have a saving's account at a bank are asking to be screwed. After the whole 2008 debacle people should have kept their money out of the bank.

Just to clarify i'm talking about your savings account, not your regular bank account. I don't have a savings account and jut keep it on my regular with a maxed day limit of 5k or 3K i forgot. And when I have some extra money I keep it at home.

Point is, because of the populous short attention span they forget how they got in this mess in the first place, because banks where using the people's money as collateral to speculate.

Isn't HSBC the same bank that was caught laundering money for terrorists, or was it Mexican cartels, or was it both?

Weren't they too big to jail so their only slap on the wrist was a fine imposed by the US Govt?

LOL this world!

Just HSBC I think....hope also.
Well if one bank does this and gets away with it, who is to say the others wont try. Maybe it is just an experiment to gauge the people. No matter the reason it's wrong..............just wrong.

I was wondering when someone would state that fact. When you deposit money into a bank you are lending it to them for a benefit that could be interest or the ability to write a cheque and recoup your loan.

I remember hearing similar of chase banks a few months ago so I went to my branch and pulled $3000 out of saving. It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep some money in my safe at home anyhow. No issues, no questions, no problems. Could there be some truth to this? Sure. But don't always believe EVERYTHING you hear. Don't get me wrong, I don't trust banking. With all that has gone done in overseas banking, at anytime, anywhere could get the same "haircut".

I know generally for withdrawals over £2000 you have to order it as they don't keep that kind of money onsite.
You have to give them a day or two notice.
But asking why you want it? Thsts crazy.
It's like when you want to cancel your account or change companies for anything, they grill you and make the process very difficult.

I once tried asking my bank for a long-term low interest rate loan to help pay the rent or the credit card for a month. The first thing they asked was "what's the loan for? We don't give out loans for paying rent, buying food or credit card payments, but it it's for little kiddies christmas or birthday gifts, that's fine". Couldn't have the punters reducing their losses.

You'll find that all the banks are owned by holding companies which in turn lead back to Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, HSBC and other holding companies.

Your executives have been involved with this kind of work before, so I'm sure they'll understand how important it is to us"
