Social Religious Ostracization.

I have been facing this issue with my Atheist friends because I believe in God. I am a Roman Catholic. I tell my friends that the Bible is a combination of true stories, fictional stories and stories from antiquity. I have a belief that science and religion can co exist. I also bring up that a lot of scientific discovery have come from monks and priest. It is hard that these group of friends of mine don't take me seriously because I believe in a supreme being. Why can't you be both a MAN OF SCIENCE and a MAN OF GOD. why can't you have duality.

Well, at least you have the moderate view of things that is lost on so many - that is the idea that some of the Bible is historical, some of it is fictional, and some of it is traditional -

It's really only recently that religious people over in the U.S. started rejecting science and scientists started rejecting religion so heavily. These days, religious folk in the U.S. are advocating things like dinosaurs and humans having lived at the same time - things that are patently false -

When I was growing up like between 1995 and 2005, there really was still this idea that you could have the religious traditions like marriage and going to church and the Golden Rule, and still be scientific -

Understand that the Bible speaks of a very real and active conflict between God and Satan, elect angels and fallen angels, the believing and the non-believing. We know that this conflict exists around us because: 1) God has disclosed details of its existace through His inspired texts...His Word, and 2) Because some of use have actually experienced the Angelic Conflict overlap into what we call "reality".
Therefore, I would first recommend that you understand that some people will always oppose the truth and even go as far as to fabricate a cheap substitute for the sake of blissfull ignorance and the prospect of "plausible deniability" when the Great White Throne judgment comes. All people have a right to here the unadulterated truth, but it is an individual's descision to accept or reject it. Secondly, it is a direct insult to our Creator...our Father to perpetuate the idea that He would carelessly mix truth with lies and expect us to follow Him.

The Bible is the truth. It stands apart from any other document in Human History. There is a consistent syllable metering pattern from Genesis to Revelation to prove that it is whole and complete. The Apocrypha is not metered as it does not belong with God's Word. If God says the world was flooded, then it happened. There is no myth in the Bible, its all history. What we call secular science must first resonate with the concepts of the Bible before we arrogantly ordain it as truth. If God created us with the capacity to think, and has provided us with the air we breathe and the time we often choose to waste, why should we assume that He would lie to use or embellish the truth? What kind of example would He be setting for us?

People will believe whatever will get them through the next day. Don't waste time beating a dead horse. I suggest you take the time to descide just what you believe while you still have it.

Have you noticed that science is moving closer to the Bible . The big bang theory has evolved to we don't know . Everything from nothingness is too bogus for them to believe too . Then there is the Ancient Aliens view that we were visited by aliens . Is God not an Alien also that comes down or sends someone down to earth . Then there is the recognition that there is a soul and does not die with the body . Then there is the reckoning that man may have been far advanced to where we are today after the flood .If they learn more they will say someone created all that we see and is watching over us and will return one day and harvest souls .

I think that of course science and religion can co-exist. The problem is religious dogma on one side, and the arrogant dismissal of human spirituality on the other side. There is a middle ground, and many dwell there, I do, I'm not a religious person but I think that spirituality is important for many people. Many atheists people I know can be a bit harsh on believers, and likewise I've overheard 'god-squad' types saying they "hate atheists". If your friends won't accept you for who you are then maybe they're not true friends, I'm not saying you should avoid non-believers though, I commend you for trying to maintain relationships with people with different views and encourage you to continue.

You can't change them and they can't change you. You all need to respect each others right to believe what you wish. If you all can't do that, then you need to part ways and find new friends. No one should mock you for being Catholic and you shouldn't argue with them for being atheist.

Remember the old 'rule' ... don't discuss religion or politics?
Well ... if you discuss religion with your friends, they may not be friends much longer.

Those kinds of discussions are for on line chat forums where it doesn't matter and it's expected.

Things get very boring very quickly if all your friends think the same way you do. I have several religious friends who know that I am an atheist. They don't make a big deal of it, and I don't make a big deal of their religion. Honestly, their inspiration is their business, as long as they aren't killing people.

When it comes to people with your stance, your pious self assured attitude, I think if there is a God, he put people like you on this Earth to test the patience of rest of us. I don't oppose "truth", I oppose somebody like you telling me how it is.

They have been crafted carefully by the educational system to believe that everything came from the Big Bang from a Black Hole the size of a period on a piece of paper . Then to exercise their audacity the scientist now say that the heavens above and all the stars come from absolute NOTHINGNESS . And they either could care less or they actually believe it but they persist in their Folly also of attacking Believers . Their belief is also a Religion based on absolutle nothingness like their Big Bang theory .
Now science is embracing the knowledge that the Soul exist separate of the body and that we have been visited by extra terrestrials or aliens . These nonbelievers are being literally betrayed by science as we speak . Is God not an alien to the terrestrial and we do know he has come down and lived with us as Jesus .
Then scientist are hinting at that man was more advanced in ways we aren't today before the flood . The non believer stands on shifting sands .

Young or not, time is short (less than 10 years now) Im 26...its sad to see my generation develop such a stiff neck.

From your words, it sounds as though you assume non believers are young and stupid and rebellious, and therefore unworthy of your ears. I find this a cheap and distasteful approach to disregarding our methods. I would, in fact, go so far as to call it blatant cowardice. Unless that is not what you are saying...?

I have been there where they are at and I believed but my youthful invincibility, the glitter of life and the constant onslaught of anti God science turned my head to folly . Then I saw the video The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey . It shocked me to see how the clock of God was moving ever closer to the end . I thank God for giving me the wisdom to see with clear eyes the his plan at work ever so closely with the end times prophecy . Not all people can or will see the truth of the Gospel of Christ and the fulfillment of the later times .
Time may be shorter than 3 1/2 years before the Mark of the Beast has been given . It could be this year because the main facilitator is the World Wide Internet . Remote areas can use the satellite system to convey the cashless society . A cashless money already exist and could be deployed world wide quickly and would cost nothing to do so . Hard currency will not exist and you will have to have the Mark of the Beast to buy, sell or trade . This is the undeniable plan of the Globalist especially with the rewards cards , NSA and Data collection centers of today and yet the unbeliever can not see where this is leading . God help them and us for time is short .

My step-father is Roman Catholic, has a Masters in Biology, and is adept in several scientific studies ranging from the Behavioral Sciences to more Modern Technologies. He has always told me there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that one's spiritual life and personal faith has to remain exclusive from Science. After all, we're not in the Dark Ages anymore.

He also went on the explain that one of the most beautiful ways of understanding the material world is to examine, study, and appreciate the beauty of Creation. That is exactly what Scientific study sets out to accomplish.

The trick is finding your balance between the Spiritual/Personal Internal and the Scientific/Objective External.

Wish I could have a talk with him and find out exactly what he finds in his work that reaffirms his faith. Of course, there are those who tell me that reaffirming your faith with fact is the equivalent of wearing garlic perfume on your date with Dracula.

Not at all if you read my last post . Believe me I have been there . I am finishing up on life and in retirement and see me all over again but not as belligerent in the words you speak . You have been taught that Christianity is the handhold of the week and afraid people who can not stand on their own . You have not learned of your own vulnerability yet . No in one word atheism is well entrenched in the elderly too ! Both are a denial of that which would require a commitment that would devoid you of your most loved vices and friends ,much like marriage usually does .
Go in peace , but do look at what people of wisdom are saying to you lest you do your self a disservice . After all what does it cost you to listen?

It costs me nothing at all to listen, but I do not like aspersions cast upon my character that I haven't earned. And quite frankly, you seem to be implying that I reject theism due to my love for being a sinful heathen. I assure you, that is far from the truth. If I'm going discipline my mind and body to disdain the materials and laws which comprise and govern them, I'd better have a really good reason to do so. And quite frankly, not one instance of theism has given me a reason I feel is worth rewriting what nature has given me.
