What worries me the most is the monopoly they are starting to hold on information. How hard is to find something google doesnt want you to see. I dont want anyone to decide what i can or cant see. Thats the main reason for looking an alternative search engine. Secondly, theres the privacy issue. But I dont mind much about that, because where im from(Argentina), its imposible to track anybody down. And im serious. The goverment doesnt have the means. You wouldnt believe what goes down in these kind of countries.

Perhaps before you ridicule you should run an adblocker, or learn what one is.

I use startpage as well.

Startpage doesn't record ip addresses, it simply takes your query and submits it to google and then relays the results. Pretty much exactly what a proxy does. I would recommend anybody at least check them out. However if you want to be a superuser with google i'd recommend you still go to the google site itself and use a proxy. You can still use startpage but you'll have to restructure your query so that it contains single and double quotes.

Normal Google Example: site:abovetopsecret.com intext:nibiru

StartPage Example: "'site:abovetopsecret.com' 'intext:nibiru'"

The above may or may not work depending on exactly what you're looking for but if you want to delve deeply in to penetration testing/superusing you should be using a real proxy anyway.

Claims to be the 'worlds most private search engine'

I have pretty good results with it.

I just gave that one a bit of a test drive. It really does seem good. Thanks for that one!

Blekko is pretty good,

blekko.com...

If you guys own websites and dont want google traffic for whatever reason you can block google in your robots.txt file or in webmaster tools remove your site.
