Hi y'all.
Today i was googling something up and i got this message from google, right at the end of the first page.
This is something i had thought long ago, but i got really pissed, so i decided to start looking for a new search engine.
I wont be looking up anymore in google, there are many reasons to stop doing so.
Privacy. Google shares the info with other goverments and companies.
Access to info. This time i was told they werent showing me some results, but im pretty sure most of the time they are hiding info, and dont even tell you about it.

I dont know many search engines, but when i was a kid i loved using hotbot.com, i looked it up on wikipedia, and i find out its owned by lycos, so its all good, I didnt want to use a search engine owned by microsoft or google, cause it'd be pointless.

I was hoping some of you could tell me what search engines you currently use.
Lycos seems trusty enough, but im open to suggestions.

Duckduckgo is good.

Try Duckduckgo. No privacy issues and you can search anonymously. Or you could try Onion (Tor)

DON'T use tor. EVER.

The exit nodes are compromised with the FBI.
Anyone can set up an exit node.

That would be worse than using Google.

Doesn't duckduckgo just retrieve Google results through a proxy or something? And isn't bing just the Microsoft alternative to Google search? There really is no real alternative to Google search at the end of the day unfortunately...

Is'nt it interesting that they can stop or track copyright theft or what they claim to be so on behalf of big business and yet they do nothing to stop online abuse, just saying.

Google both bow to governments and large corporations AND avoid tax on such a massive fraudulent scale.

I no longer use google either.

There's always yahoo, but unfortunately Yahoo sucks.

I've found Google to be relatively forward in how little privacy they allow their users. Not sure if any of the other big search engines, or email providers are any better though...

Yeah but yahoo and microsoft, are also big companies, and they are prolly "hooked" with the goverment just like google is.
I was thinking of an rather indie or smaller company, that TPTB neglect for the time being.
If i cant find a good alternative SG in ATS, then theres prolly none.

I've used StartPage from time-to-time, which apparently acts like a proxy to Google search but doesn't pass along your IP address or other information to Google servers in the process. In effect it acts as a filter between your computer and Google Search.

Try ixquick.

www.ixquick.com

Claims to be the 'worlds most private search engine'

I have pretty good results with it.

Seconded. Startpage is brilliant, and is based outside the US, so they can tell the NSA to go stuff themselves.

If its privacy you're looking for, here's what you need to do...
Stand up right now, put your wallet and your cellphone on your computer desk. Take your car and drive it through your front door and into the living room, then burn it all to the ground. You'll have to go make a new home for yourself in the forest, and if you've ever been through one of those body scanners at the airport, then i suggest you build your home out of lead. (you didn' think those things were just looking for box cutters and bombs did you?)

Startpage.com is a private search engine and the one that I use. They do not record your IPaddress.

I understand and agree with what you're saying -

But it would be nice if people would take a "little", although basically meaningless, stand and stop using google and facebook - I read that teenagers are leaving facebook in droves. I understand they'll just tap everything else, though.
