OK laugh. Just kidding right? Well, not completely. Throughout a good part of the World they again celebrate a holiday where a mythical figure, Santa Claus, created through a distillation of pagan and religious myths, will be bringing gifts to all the children of the world. And for the believers, mostly kids, they will actually report on Santas progress throughout the world. And you wonder why people as adults want to believe there are aliens flying through space and trying to communicate with humans. Mythology buids a mind set, a paradigm of reality that inspires the imagination and searches for more than the mundane. But what is the origin of this myth and does it have any validity in the real world?

The modern figure of Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas, which, in turn, has part of its basis in hagiographical tales concerning the historical figure of Christian bishop and gift-giver Saint Nicholas. During the Christianization of Germanic Europe, this figure may have absorbed elements of the god Odin, who was associated with the Germanic pagan midwinter event of Yule and led the Wild Hunt, a ghostly procession through the sky. Over time, traits of this character and the British folklore character Father Christmas merged to form the modern Santa Claus known today.

And of course the rest is history. And of course the debunkers were always with us, protesting Santa Claus as a delusion that misleads children and makes them more skeptical than ever as adults. So one thing we can establish as fact - The Grinch and the debunker are real - always trying to spoil human dreams of better days and better beings. For the debunker/grinch Santa is an easy target - After-all we know he is a fallacious myth don't we? .....NO, not all of us. To some of us Santa is a real myth of potential possibilities, a new world where the potentials
of human endeavor are opened, where the military beast is destroyed, and a new dawn of exploration and development shows us a world we have only dreamed about. Yes, Santa Claus is an alien, he flies above us and shows how an advanced race might open the doors to infinite potential. In this universe the myths become real and the debunkers and grinchs are no more.

Being a myth, Santa Claus could be anything really.

Even though the modern day Santa Claus was invented by Coca Cola in the thirties.

An alien based myth? A lot of folks believe that Jesus was an alien, Bouddha was an alien, heck, even our politicians are shape shifting lizard aliens to some.

Santa clause was never a myth..no one ever wondered if he really existed. At least no one out of childhood.

If you combine elements of older myths together you dont then get a new myth..you just get a made up character.

There aren't any believers who wonder about aliens, they only wonder about the events that they experienced.

It is really hard to take threads like these seriously and I do not know if we´re supposed to.

But here it goes. You yourself, OP, have cited where the santa claus myth came from. There are a few slightly varying explanations, but one thing is clear. Santa Claus is not rooted in mystery, we know how he came to be.

So, now I have to ask you. How on earth do you seriously make the alien connection in your mind? Maybe this was meant as a joke, but if not...

Well, let´s say it like this. Santa Claus is not real, he does not exist. Therefore he is not alien. And the humans he is based on, weren´t alien either. I am pretty sure of that. So, no. Santa is no alien.

Oh, he's real alright. I met him when I was 5 years old. He told me the story of St. Nicholas, how he helped those in need by slipping money into their shoes.
On this night in 1959 just as I was about to be hustled off to bed there was a knock on the front door. My Mother was in the kitchen clearing the debris from our Christmas Eve dinner and called to me to see who was at the door.
Imagine my shock when I beheld Santa Claus---big guy in a red velvet suit with the most awesome mane of white hair and beard I had ever seen. And it was real---he was real.
I just stood there---mouth agape, I'm fairly certain, until my Mother reminded me that the polite thing to do would be to invite him in for the milk and cookies we had prepared.
Even now I can remember feeling my heart pounding as I ran to fetch the treats.
I have no memory of his exact words on that night long ago, but I have a very clear memory of being lifted onto his lap and being enfolded with love. He told me that he was a follower of St. Nicholas, he found a lot of joy in bringing happiness to people all over the world.
My parents and grandparents kept that tradition alive by slipping money into mittens or the pocket of a coat. I still keep to the tradition. These days it might take the form of going down to electric company and taking care of someone's overdue bill or just tucking a bit of cash into a pocket here and there. It's the best fun you can have with pictures of dead presidents!

That's the best Christmas story.

I always thought a dream come true job would be working at the North Pole (imagining the place conveyed in Classic Christmas shows). I love giving to people. It is the greatest feeling.

Santa is real if we make him real - which your story conveys perfectly.

Since Santa lives at the North Pole, he would be considered an alien in just about every country on Earth.

Regarding off-Earth status, I thought he is just a jolly old elf.
