Putin holds press conference with over 1000 media outlets

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has invited journalists to the traditional annual press conference December 19. Long since, these meetings are reasonably called 'big', because they gather over a thousand media representatives and last for more than 4 hours.

Putin holds press conference with over 1000 media outlets: Imagine Obama trying this..LOL

Can you imagine Obama trying this with No prearranged questions, No Script, No Teleprompter, No one to save his sorry A** for 4 hours

Something seems very Orwellian about this to me.

Remember, he is/was KGB.

Hmm not 100% I agree with you on this one, All those reporters want to see his face when they're asking a question rather than talking a spec who's facial expressions you can't make out, also there is a large screen on the other side for the person asking the question, so to the audience it is a bit more interactive when someone else asks something and also is making their face as large as his shows equality... If it was an authoritarian thing his picture would be larger and he'd have more decorations of his party about. Just because he wants his face to be seen by everyone while he's asking questions doesn't make it Orwellian. You think football players are being Orwellian??

It was a big event and he regularly does these Q + A's where he lets people criticise him, that's not very Orwellian and more than I can say for most western leaders.

Its pretty sad when Russia embraces the media while at the same time Obama locks them out, preferring instead to use state propaganda....

"Orwellian" is an adjective describing the situation, idea, or societal condition that George Orwell identified as being destructive to the welfare of a free and open society

en.wikipedia.org...

So, whats so destructive about this interview?

False, that's just the title of THIS thread.

If you picked up the Geo-Political mags you would see the biggest stories are the European Defence Shield, negotiations with the Ukraine, and pardons for the Oligarchs.

I thought you paid attention?

I found out about this Q + A because of a title based on Snowden, he made some interesting comments on that one! I may not approve of a lot of Putins policies, but at least he makes an effort with his people and the global stage, instead of just doing it all cloak and dagger.

Some of us don't idolize any leaders from any party/country. He does get an A+ from me for showboating and answering those hard hitting questions though.

Putin praises the communist party leader Zyuganov as politician N2, puts Medvedev 5th after the scandalous Zhirinovsky and the unimpressive Mironov.
Medvedev holds the all important PM place and is in the role similar to that of US vice president or even more. Will that change?

It is a breath of fresh air to watch Putin.

A man that stands by his convictions.

Sure he was part of the KGB, that just means he actually has power
unlike his American counterpart that holds a meer tocken possition.

Putin would beat the crap out of Obama, Bush and Dick at the same
time. Biden can stand there looking like a goof as usual
American men are so frail. It is pathetic really.

Go Putin! Men face their accusers. Cowards hide and deflect away
from theirs.

It was well known back in the cold war era that the USSR was the number one propaganda system in the world.

Now the USA is number one in propaganda.

All Putin has to do to look good is get his point of view out for the world to hear and he will be seen as the good guy compared to the way the US government is doing things now.

The problem is, nobody in the US actually knows who the good guys are any more.
But we do have some very disturbing suspicions.
