I think Clancey would be the first to admit he loves the added 'frisson' that his supposed 'links' to the military adds to his books.

But really at the end of the day they are just fiction using the, fairly obvious, themes of the day and a touch of re-worked historical background.

Like all writers do.

You say that but then Clancy also wrote about terrorists flying planes into government buildings and look what happened.

I don�t think it is far fetched at all.

Read the book it is alot better.

It is a very good possiblity that something of that nature could occur. Remember, he wrote that book about 10 years ago.

Didn�t they get their hands on the Plutonium from a nuke on a downed Israeli jet?

I don�t think Russia had any involvement at all, that was the whole point.

The film sucks compared to the book.

- Well I didn't say it wasn't at all possible or totally unique.

I mean, the idea of deliberately suiciding oneself using a plane to attack a target is hardly new or unique to Clancey now is it?

WW2 is a pretty obvious start what with the idea becoming fact, and as the '9/11 enquiry commission' showed the idea of civil jets being used by sufficiently trained suicide attackers in this way had been around for years.

I don't think terrorists will hit the US with nukes. They could have killed hundreds of thousands with chemical weapons last time, but they didnt do it. They seem to have some concept of mercy for the innocent part of the american people.

A more realistic end-times scenario is something in the direction of Stan Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove, given the neocons are exactly the Jack D. Ripper type of guys...

huh? are you serious? mercy? bullsh!t and a half.

the possibility is not huge, but there is always the possibility for anything of this sort to happen. if you fear everything that is possible, you will be huddled in a corner for the rest of your life. phuk that. it's ridiculous. the movie did suck, by the way, but it did have some interesting parts- liev schreiber is a great actor.
