The Apollo photos of the Moon taken from lunar orbit can be enhanced to show the subtle colour variations. I posted one such photo a few posts earlier, and here's a mosaic of four Apollo 17 photos stitched together, again with enhanced saturation:


Photos used: AS17-150-23051, AS17-150-23052, AS17-150-23053, and AS17-150-23054

Interesting to note are the greenish-yellowish hues in the upper half of the mosaic; this is probably due to olivine minerals present.

As well as the orbital photos, some close-up photos taken on the Moon's surface show some colourful rocks, like this one:



The bluish, bubbly-looking stuff on that rock is solidified impact melt.

I'm gonna go through some more of those Apollo photos and see if I find something cool.
