Santa is a mixture of myths; Finnish, and Turkish.

Now Finns may be white, but Turks vary a lot.

Coca Cola came along with an advertising campaign and then Santa became fat, white, and American.

I think Santa can be whatever you want.

I hope this teacher lost their job. This isn't a simple thoughtless comment, it's highly offensive, completely stupid and there is no place in modern society or education for teachers like this.
There are plenty of good teachers and graduates looking for jobs, and clowns like this are blocking their path.

People

This isn't about whether Santa is/was black or white.
It's about the ignorant, completely inappropriate and offensive comment made by a TEACHER, an EDUCATOR!!

Slightly over the top reaction from the parents there. If someone wouldn't let my child play Santa due to being white, which would be even more ridiculous, and he was embarrassed I would like to think my reaction would be less severe than to demand the instant dismissal of the teacher. Then again I'm not hysterical about racism.

The teacher regrets it, embarrassment isn't the end of the world, there's no point putting someone's livelihood and family at risk.

he started the whole thing, it's based on him,
isn't it?

No, he's an amalgamation of figures. Before the saint in question he was actually Odin.

Let a white kid play MLK in a play in a black school then we can talk. until then santa is white.

If the guy really said that it is stupid. National newsworthy? you be the judge.

Pretty sure this all started by some black congresswomen? saying why cant we have a black santa

This started in Portland with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Hmmm...has a lighter skinned kid every played MLK in a school play?
Has a dark skinned child ever played Abe Lincoln?
I WANT TO SEE THIS!
I won't be happy until I see a blond, male, Pocahantas.
Maybe then will the message of the play be truly heard.
A black Romeo and a white Juliet? What a controversy that would cause in the south!

Doesn't matter what color Santa is. He doesn't exist outside of our hearts and minds. Let's make him blue.

Probably crushed about the remark...not playing Santa.
Besides...some young adults are really into Christmas...nothing wrong with that.

If this was public school and the teacher had him remove the hat BECAUSE he was a black santa and not a white one, the teach should get a warning.

If it's just a no hats policy all together and the teach happened to slide in a remark about black santa looking funny, that's different. he may be racist or ignorant or both but unless it's discrimination then the kid's gonna have to get over it.

I don't know how it went down but that's my opinion on a matter like this. But if the policy is different based on skin color, the teach should lose his job.

The questions should be:

Who invented Santa?

Why did they say He was White?

Why was he depicted as being 'White' in all the Mags/Books?

Santa is an Illusion, he is invisible, so therefore he is of no colour at all.
