International airspace applies to every aircraft, except in cases where it is a threat to another nation, or nations assets.
Military aircraft have every right to fly where they want, but they can't threaten other aircraft or ships.edit on 12/13/2013 by Zaphod58 because: (no reason given)

You think other militaries don't shadow the US every chance they get, with no response other than escorting aircraft as they fly over, you really need to get out more.
The Iranian aircraft you're claiming double standard on were flying a flight path that was putting them directly on course to intercept an aircraft that was no threat to them, a few weeks after they attempted to shoot down another aircraft.

The Cowpens was conducting surveillance of the Liaoning at the time
Provocative much.
as an American, that was my thought too....there really needs to be some diplomacy here...military men on both sides are in a penis-waving contest, and cooler heads need to prevail.

Or to rephrase it:

Several words come to mind. Treason and sedition being just two.

No double standards at all. The US Navy does not pull their ships into the DIRECT path of another ship and stop.

Instigator with deep pockets my friend. There whenever some countries needs us. Yep that's instigating all right. Should we say to bad so sad next time our help is needed somewhere in the world ? We lead the way in humanitarian efforts the world over. Who ya gonna call ?
