Dear Board,

I know that people on ATS have been asking for a forum for and about animals. I would like to put myself out there for a question and answer type forum to offer people help with they're animals.

Let me tell a bit about myself and why I think I have the qualifications to do this. My mother was a cat breeder and had at one time over 200 cats in our house.I was the one that took them to the vet and cleaned up after them, gave them they're meds etc. when she was finally shut down and the humane society came out for the cats ( the term now is hoarder and I had to be the bad guy and make her get rid of them) the humane society gave me recommendations on my ability to handle and care for cats. All of the cats were well cared for. That was never the issue. The issue was she was spending all her money on them and couldn't give them the attention they needed.

I then went on to dog groom here in St.Louis and ended up with more recommendations from 5 different area vets on my ability to not only handle dogs but to recognize health issues that either the owner needed to be made aware of,or of life threatening issues that needed immediate attention.I did this with all my heart for 15 years. After I lost my lovely companion of 16 years (my beautiful Sheltie) my heart went out of me.I finally left grooming when my clients older dogs started dying off as well during this time. I found that I just got too attached to them and it broke my heart to hear the owner crying on the phone telling me they just lost so and so last night.

I may be too soft to deal with the pain and loss of those dogs, but I haven't forgotten anything I learned as a groomer, and I still keep in touch with my former co-workers ( wonderful people to know).I would be more than happy to offer my services for the good of ATS and the people that visit here.I've learned so much coming to this site, that I feel its only right to give back when I can.If you decide that I can be of help, please let me know. Sincerely, Elayne.

Sounds like a good idea

Some ATSers here already know that i am a veterinary surgeon with over 26 years experience (specialised in animal behaviour/ethics) not just your common everyday domestic animal or farm companion but also new and old world primates.

I would be glad to offer a suggestion here and there too when i have the time (or just U2U me).

I cannot promise to be here all the time but would be happy to help out.

Kindest respects

Rodinus

Im sure you are very qualified but an Animal forum isnt really the cutting edge of alternative subjects.

Either is the Chit Chat forum.

I think a Pet Forum is a great idea and I'm pushing for it myself.

So glad to hear that. Ever since Jude started the thread about it a while ago, many people here have thought it was a great idea.
Plus, if they did just start an "animal" forum, it would clean up some of the other forums, wouldn't it?

Win Win

I think it's a great idea! For most people their pets are loved as family members and an important part of their lives. It would be nice to have a place to share concerns about behavior, or amazing or hilarious pet tricks.

It would also be a great place to seek information on non domestic animals that might be in ones vicinity. A few years ago I had 2 healthy looking coyote's go running past me, no more than 4 feet away from where I was standing and I thought that was so amazing....them made a point to instruct family not to take the pets out at night. My cat used to just sit by me on the porch and unrestrained as she normally didn't require it, could have unnecessarily risked her life.

I find wild animals amazing and am so thrilled to see them but am also very aware of the wild aspect.

I think you might be surprised. And anyway if ATS has a cars forum and a jokes forum and other forums for people to gather 'round the fire and chat, I'm actually surprised there isn't a pet/animal forum available already.
