Palin is right on this one.. Here in the uk, the simple word 'Christmas is almost tabu...just in case one offends someone. Sad worl we live in

Live in a parallel dimension do we? Round objects, Christmas is everywhere here.

There is a history ignorance here that is so frustrating. For example. Saying "Happy holidays!" Has been around for a very long time. Atleast the last 40 years.

Tis sooo true! I recently sorted a few boxes of '50's and '60's era Christmas cards that my Mom had held onto since she'd received them ......in the '50's and '60's.

At least half of those BSP (Before Sarah Palin) cards said either "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings".....and some those were oddly illustrated with religious themes......Oh my!

I'm sure Sarah does not realize that the most 'Christian' of the Founders, that is the Puritans refused to allow the celebration of Christmas, considering it a pagan festival !!

It was not until after the civil war, in an effort to 'unify' the country, that President Grant made Christmas Day a federal holiday.....so Sarah, you kinda need to thank the federal government for your ability to celebrate Christmas !

Here is how I see the whole stupid Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays battle.

I use both. If someone says "Merry Christmas" to me, I reply in kind. Same if they say "Happy Holidays."

If I say to you, "Happy Holidays" I mean happy season that begins with Thanksgiving and runs through New Years Day. If I say to you, Merry Christmas, I mean Merry December 24-25. If I say one or the other to you, and you take offense over which one I used, then I take it all back. I hope you have miserable holidays and a sucky-assed Christmas.

"The former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate told students at the Christian university that "revisionists" are trying to turn the Christmas season into a "winter solstice season," creating a greater divide between church and state."

Isn't separation of church and state a good thing? Last time the church and the state were one was during the dark ages... a lot of innocent people were wrongfully persecuted and put to death for simply not being Christian. Not a good time. So, why is Palin advocating for church and state to come together?

I always liked "Season's Greetings". And this was before the war started. Everything is a war, sadly.

If it is about Christ, were are the "What would Jesus buy" signs?

He wasn't all about pacifism, you know.
'They' love all kinds of war, especially if it involves us set off against each other. I'm not playing.

A little different Christmas for us to remember while we're arguing... about some surrounded paratroopers almost 70 years ago, getting the trees they were camping in made shorter with 88's. That coupled with a nice long cold snap.

From the last line in your post, "What would Jesus buy?" Good one. Flag and star, and a syringeful of Vat 69 remembering them. When times were a little bit different and some really special guys had to 'celebrate' it outside-- sweaters, socks and ammo. "Remember The Bulge", and count your blessings.

I wish there was some way to have stopped those situations in the first place. That'd be a cool start too on the subject of presents.

Jesus, people died and worse so we can simply argue? Who are we?

Thanks for reminding me of that bit of history. It puts things in a different perspective, doesn't it.

It's good to see ex gov. Sarah still trying to stay relevant and in the limelight and sell a few books.
Politically, Palin is a GOP throw away has been, but she knows self promotion and marketing. Or at least the
A&R people in her company do.

I sure don't see any war on Christmas however, the malls are packed with plebeians spending money that they don't have on BS to give to people they don't like. imo the spirit of Christmas is alive and well!!

Happy Holidaze amigos....

Division of Church and State is a basis of the US Constitution, so such statement makes her a TRAITOR, as much as John Kerry or whoever else.

"Christmas" had been the winter solstice celebration for a long time and through many pagan cultures. But Palin is pretty much silent on those CORPORATISTS who stole your Christian Christmas and turned it into a big mass marketing war horse.

I think just to confuse people and tick off some of the more ignorant people, I'll just start wishing people, "happy solstice!"
