Nelson Mandela, who spent 27 years as a prisoner in South Africa for opposing apartheid, then emerged to become his country's first black president, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and an enduring symbol of integrity, principle and resilience, died Thursday at 95.

The announcement was made by South African president Jacob Zuma, who said in a nationally televised address," Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father. Although we knew that this day would come, nothing can diminish our sense of a profound and enduring loss."

Mandela had spent almost three months in a Pretoria hospital after being admitted in June with a recurring lung infection

BTW - I've found the search function kinda useless when it comes to new threads. Best bet is to check the Recent Posts list although that isn't foolproof either.

On a final note, there will also probably be a few posts in the Dead Celebrities that haven't died thread as I think Mandela was mentioned a few times there...

Are you sure Nelson Mandela is dead this time? There were reports / social media rumors before that he was dead that turn out to be false..

I'm going to need some good evidence from atleast 3-4 sources

Use an outside search engine. The one on the site almost needs exact thread titles to work. Now that Nelson mandella has died for the 3rd time I hope it stays that way. Dieing that many times has to be tiring.
