and again the cold weather is supposed to be some sort of proof that climate change isn't happening even though it was predicted. global warming models have never said that winter would cease to exist. it predicts certain areas to freeze over eventually (some refer to this as the mini ice age). global warming changes the weather patterns. it doesn't mean we are all going to sweat to death. i know it's a tough concept to understand that when the earth warms there will be parts that freeze that weren't frozen before.......

Global warming models have never predicted anything that actually happened.
They predict what you want them to predict, its called programming.
Thats not such a hard concept to understand.

Is it?

I know, but in my tiny mind, it all sounds just like.........weather.

I am even going out on a limb here, I will predict the next year for all. In the spring, it's going to warm up, with some rain. Then summer is going to be hot. Then in the fall, it will start to cool off, then back to winter. It should have some cold spells then. And I did that all without purchasing any carbon credits.

Well -8 and a touch of snow isn't exactly extreme here, it will be like that off and on all winter, sometimes a little colder.

We're sheltered where our home is, and the temperature gauge faces in to the window, so its the real temperature without windchill factoring in. However yesterday, leaving our sheltered home to town, it was almost hurricane cold, and hard to get the mail, also my little car felt like it was being pushed. I'm sure it was colder there with the windchill conditions and that was a storm front.

But overall, just a tad colder than average December, and lots of days like that a few decades ago.

Here in Az,

We are having a cold winter. Well Cold for us anyway!

I have been here most of my life and is seems to go in cycles.

It seems you have about ten years of increasing warm winters, then about ten years or decreasing temp winters. ThIs currant cold cycle seems to have stared last year. We are also getting more rain in this cycle,
and it is when our reservoirs and lakes fill back up... When we go back into a warm cycle, they become drought again.

Winter would never cease to exist, but snowfalls are a thing of the past ... How quickly some things go down the memory hole.

Well wrabbit, now that I'm snowed-in in Sheridan, Wyoming I may wish to change my opinion on that unusually nice weather that I mentioned over the weekend.
I guess it's like they say...

Well it looks like we're getting a week or so of -15, which is very low for the early part of December here. 0 to -4 is about what we should be having. The long term forcast is that won't be until December 19th roughly.

It is hot where I am Wrabbit.
How about 87*. I thought it was Christmas time?
Even the whales are trying to come here in mass?
Could that be because they can't stand the quick change in temperature?

Seems that mother nature is not cooperating with the climate porn crowds ...yep we are going to have a winter in the north ...might get lucky if the gulf stream pushes the warm off the water before heading over to Europe ..

It is almost 70 here today in December. I am wearing short sleeves. So what is your point?

Silly skeptics, what is happening in your neck of the woods has no bearing on the rest of the planet. Stop being so narcisstic and remember there is a whole nother world out there.

I am only aware of the places I have been and the ones I have read about . I was once 14 miles south of the Alaskan panhandle in the middle of January and the weather was beautiful ..people riding motorcycles mowing lawns ...I think they said it wasn't uncommon to get the Japanese currents and that usually meant warm weather ...something like the chinooks in Alberta .. Where I am which is the North East we can get mild winters when the gulf stream gets pushed inland ..pretty nice weather so far this winter though ...I blew snow 3 days ago and now its all melted ...have a great day ..:>)

There are usually 50 to 60 volcanic land mass eruptions a year on planet earth. 2013 set a record for having 83. The previous record was 82 which was set in 2010.

If the eruptions continue to spew their particulate matter into the atmosphere we may very well be in for a few years of cooler than normal temps "planet wide".

Where I am in S.E. Asia it has been mid 80s during the day and mid 60s or high 50s at night. Perfect golf weather ! Of course the locals are bundled up like they are in Alaska; not much fat for insolation around here...
UAH Global temperature, down slightly, “the pause” continues

North Dakota has got to have some of the toughest, roughest, hardiest sons of bitches I have ever met.

It's cold here.

But it's awesome too!

I last the winter in North Dakota, I can last the winter ANYWHERE!

Well I'm from Canada, southern BC all my life, and I'm basically a hot house plant, like it warm. Would like May-Sept, rinse and repeat, all the time. We set our furnace at 75 degrees in the winter. Our heat pump furnace is still keeping the place warm during this cold spell.

Well, we went from close to 50 early this week to maybe 20 for the high with snow overnight.

It's pretty early in the winter (technically it's not winter until the 21st) for it be this cold although not unheard of for this part of the country. Usually, the really cold stuff doesn't start to roll in until January.

They all said that is was going to be a long cold winter and all the signs were there for anyone with the eyes to see and read - I'm talking about the environment around us. The old farmers know, and they were all busy laying in lots of fodder this year.

Boots rated to -40. Celsius or Fahrenheit. They're the same at that temperature

A good extreme wear jacket. Hat with ear muffs to pull down.

By the time spring rolls around, you're going to be in a tee shirt at -10C (20ish Fahrenheit?) thinking about how warm it is.

did you read the end of that article you linked to? and.... i'm sure you can find plenty of odd articles like that on the internet. i still stand by what i said. i remember reading about it specifically years ago. certain areas are going to experience what could be like a mini ice age yet the overall global temps will be higher. the climate where each of us live is changing and it's not an overnight change. that's the way the deniers can sit back and claim those of us who believe in climate change are nuts. our generation is so "want it now" that if we can't see disasters one after the other before our very eyes then we can just dismiss it.

In other words, we can lay claim to every storm, hurricane, drought, heat wave and blame it on global warming, but if you "skeptics" use the same things to deny it, we can tell you it's "localized" and has no bearing on global changes.

One day we will have a monopoly on the word hypocrite too.
