A Scarlet Letter explores the stigma surrounding the word "atheist," a word often associated with immorality, anger, and... devil-worship? Yet, despite its stigma, nonbelief is the fastest growing "religious" segment in the American public. This documentary explores why atheists are choosing to stand out against religious intrusion in public life while showing the human face of atheism. It examines the question of why so many people are passionate about a negative.

With all the documentary’s that are out there I am surprised this hasn’t been done already. I bring this to your attention because I have a feeling that once this is released it will be as well-known as Religulous from Bill. There are groups books and now a movie to explain what being atheist is and isn’t however I am sure some of the stigma will remain for the next generation.

It's difficult to tear down the stigma of a word that has been used negatively for thousands of years. Rather than try to separate a word from its original meaning, why not simply use another one?

You know I really liked star trek growing up but it was only a few years ago when talking to a friend that he pointed out something that had never occurred to me. They were completely socialist.
