From the NY Post:

In the home stretch of the 2012 presidential campaign, from August to September, the unemployment rate fell sharply — raising eyebrows from Wall Street to Washington.
The decline — from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent in September — might not have been all it seemed. The numbers, according to a reliable source, were manipulated.
And the Census Bureau, which does the unemployment survey, knew it.

The Post goes on to name the individual ... Julius Buckmon.

Former GE CEO Jack Welch made a similar allegation right before the election and was taken to the pillory for it.

To quote our fearless VP, 'this is a big f-ing deal' if it turns out to be true.

Stay tuned.

HI SirMike!

wouldn't surprise me.

I'm curious.. do you report the misdeeds of Republicans roughly
as often as you do those of Democrats?

I personally think that the Republicans and Democrats are much
closer to being a one party system than one might think, and
that all this 'stuff' is more political theater and a system of
corruption common to 'both parties'.

Fair question: I am more of an ideologue and less of a partisan.

ah -- way cool. me too.

I just wanted to know that we were on a level playing field
before discussing the facts. I don't post to political threads
very often.

The reason that I posted to this one.. is that I've heard many
stories about the unemployment figures being manipulated.

For example, people who no longer receive unemployment
(past 99 weeks) are considered to be 'not wanting to work'
and are not counted as unemployed any further! Or so
I've heard -- don't know if that's true or not. Sounds likely
though.

Absolutely! That's what I was doing.. seeing
if this was a rant or a real discussion. And
I see that it's a real discussion.

My neighbor, retired worked for the census. He said they had their own tricks to play. He worked by their orders in spurts. He would work awhile get laid off for awhile then get rehired again. He knew of a woman that got hired and fired seven times like that. Each time, that was a job created when those jobs didn't even amount to one full-time job.

Should we keep tallies? Are we going to win a prize at the end? The idea is it expose corruption and in this case, identify the veracity of the claims. Republican/Democrat; it matters not, but so long as people like you who think they are making some poignant stance in the matter spews this, we get nowhere.

All that I just wrote is interesting considering your supposed stance of "they are all the same"....

I have a sneaking suspicion that the middle class and the
'main street economy' is way more wounded than the
politicians are letting on. Wall street is definitely
flooded with printing press money (quantitative
easing of the FR). But that's the wealth transfer
from poor to rich fake economy.

I'd love to see real, unfaked numbers showing how
hurting regular people really are..

On a related note, I wonder how much of that unemployment
rate includes crappy part time jobs which can't actually
support a family. I woulnd't be surprised if the 'real'
unemployment rate was closer to 20%.

But I dont know.

Well, I have to say there just isn't much right or left to the story...

Unemployment Rates for Metropolitan Areas

There is the top of that list (Up in North Dakota, especially) and then.. Well.. Everything has a bottom and that one has a real painful one. Mileage certainly varies on this recovery thing.

That swing seems to carry into demographics too. Employment Summary Report / Recent Months and Detailed Stats / Previous Months

Whether it's still very much a recession or whether it's a slow recovery depends on where one lives, it seems.

Obama sure didn't win on employment figures though. Bush may have been many things, but he wasn't bad on Employment. It's been what Obama can't shake. Unemployment Figures 2003-2013 (Simple Chart)

I will say that the sheer diversity and volume of numbers from all different sources which come together in making those numbers would be a very big story to have confirmed as being directly messed with. I don't think it made any real election difference tho.

In a very real way, it can also be said that if that's the best they can do for cooking the books, it wasn't that good either.

but he wasn't bad on Employment

So the Great Bush and Bush whose not a War Criminal wasn't bad on Employment nor did he even fake it?

Both presidents fake the Employment rates. Remember the Clinton years?

By the way Wrabbit2000 congrats on becoming an ATS mod.

So, the Govt, run by the Tyrant 0bama, the same person that promised we could keep our Health plans, has been caught lying yet again.

Not surprised. Not at all.

It has taken me 10 minutes of rolling around in the floor laughing to be able to weakly crawl back up into my seat and reply to this.

Did you just phase into this reality from one where people don't suck donkey's? If so, you are in for a shock. When Uncle Sam asks you to bend over, it is less painful if you just smile and say "Thank you".

And that's where I stopped reading. This is going to be bogus. If his only real source on this is anonymous, it's probably just a fake story.

I give more credence in this possibility;

Conn Carroll, a senior writer at the conservative Washington Examiner suggested a slightly less nefarious form of manipulation of the data.

"I don't think BLS cooked numbers. I think a bunch of Dems lied about getting jobs. That would have same effect," he tweeted. "Would love to see the partisan breakdown of the 873,000 Americans who say they got new jobs."

and the real rate has been on a steady incline with Obama anyway;
