I'm afraid I have to side with those who say this is not racist, and that the intent of the author of the ad probably wasn't racist.

Actually, I'm not even sure that the person who tweeted it meant it as racist. If I had seen this printed as an ad in a newspaper I wouldn't have thought anything of it. (Except that it's not even remotely funny, with or without racial overtones. It's derivative, pedestrian, and silly. But not funny.)

Anyway, I've long ago given up on jumping on the "racist" soapbox on behalf of people who hadn't even thought of being offended on their own behalf until someone else made an issue of it....

Spike Lee on the right? lol

I would like to here from the creator on what it is supposed to mean because having 2 black dudes and a gorilla suit does appear stupid.
kinda like giving a Jew a glass of milk and a T-bone and calling it kosher.

I think it was yahoo news that wrote today that someone already got fired.
This was not the home depot being racist, just a single idiot.
I prefer OSH anyway.

But calling people of African decent Monkey, is a racial slur dating back to slave times in america, and suggesting that it would be difficult to pick what was different from the three is a tremendous racial slur.

I didn't know that! So what happens on Hawaii Five O when the cop always calls his daughter monkey.

This racial crap in the US is bloody confusing mate. Makes my head spin!

For those that don't see this as racist, I would like to post the following.

I see this tweet as a joke. The joke being, "Blacks look like Monkeys, so let's put a monkey in between two black men and ask people to point out which is different!"

If that's not what you see as the joke, I'd like to know what you think the joke is.

I don't think this is "racist" but it was a very stupid move. I got to say though, I'm at work and it made me laugh pretty hard...people probably think I'm crazy here.

It was at most "Dumb" by whoever was behind that photo and posting as they weren't being sensitive. The wording too, tweaks the picture in a way that could be very offensive. Like it was a game to identify a Monkey vs. A Black Guy.

Funny thing I that I've been to the Home Depot HQ in Atlanta for work and for being in a predominantly black city there is a lack of black people working there from what I remember.

Very stupid decision by a big corporation trying to be "cool", just sell me my tools and don't try so hard.

Nothing racist about that

What? Negro colored people can't go anywhere near animals or its racist? What about Blanco colored people? Is it racist for them to sit next to box of saltines or eat ritz?

This world needs a genocide against the political correct movement and all its staunch followers. World would be a better place.

Do you think you've adequately laid your trap to call me racist? if you need some more time or to edit your post let me know, then I'll gladly step into your bear-trap.

Thanks!

My question speaks for itself.

What was it that you found so uproariously funny?

Eh, I'm good. I may be new here, but I'm not new into being trapped by board trolls into being labeled as something I'm not. Next time you try to ambush someone, step a little farther back into the weeds son...I see you.

It's far more telling that you have spent your post attacking my question instead of simply answering it.

How bizarre! I worked for HD a few years ago at a distribution warehouse
while waiting to get back into my field of work. They were awesome & treated
me very well. I am a professional drummer (retired) & I had mentioned to a few
of the "Big Guys" that came to visit that I had just come from a Sheep Dog Trial
& people talked me into playing the "Bucket" & it so happened to be a HD bucket.
I didn't have sticks & played it like a conga or Djembe...had a blast!

I also took my Djembe 2 times to play with the cheer they do every morning before
the shift starts. I did NOT ever see or hear anything racist period & I am still thankful
to have worked there & for ALL the great people I met from many races. It was a
wonderful experience for me.

So what a shame for this to happen...

Cheers
Ektar

It's really a shame more people can't tell a story like you just did where they not only enjoyed where they worked, but the way they were treated and the work they did. Work itself is a positive, one we can't survive without. It just seems to be more of a rarity these days people feel like they were treated like human beings at their job. My favorite was driving a truck back starting in 1979. The road felt relatively free back then and I worked with good people.

If your experience is common among HD employees I'll be tempted to shop there instead of Lowes. They do seem to run their store better and have it organized better as well. So I hope this doesn't turn out to be anything major in the media, you know, like "Justice for the 2 dudes who had to sit next to racist monkey guy!"

I was right with you until that part.
Political correctness does need to die though perhaps not the politically correct themselves.
They can still be sent for reeducation.

Wow Thank you as I never expected such a positive response. I am gracious.
I really never expected to have had to work in a warehouse period. I am a dual
Licensed Veterinary Technician working since 1995. However when times are
tough you have to bite the bullet & do whatever it takes to survive.

I felt very fortunate to have had that job on many levels. I was then working
with different types of people other than medical & it was a different world.

I did what i was suppose to do & I'm a perfectionist so I was getting recognition
every week or so...not trying to toot me horn in any way. I was thankful that
coming from Hollywood as a professional drummer, to being a Vet Tech & I was
SO grateful I could fit in with everyone else & be accepted for who I was &
nothing else. I never had any problems with management or people.

I had even given notice to leave to get back in my field & it fell apart & they
Bloody took me BACK! until I finally left. I have NOTHING BAD to say about HD!
It was a GREAT experience that I will always remember.

Cheers
Ektar

Again thank you for recognizing what I was trying to get across to others.

This is funny now because as its already been mentioned a few times how blatantly obvious the picture is a total gaffe. How this made its way from concept to twitter is what makes it funny. Everyone commenting on the thread already know the context of how this pic was received. Its not the same thing as seeing it on Twitter for the first and finding it hilarious because you think monkeys and blacks look alike. RADICAL.

I've taken notice of you in several forums over the last few days. You stand out from the crowd, and not in a good way (at least not with me). I thought it was because you are the antithesis of the values I stand for, but then I realized... You love to play the devil's advocate. Touchè, my friend. You almost had me.

I have to agree with whoever said if they saw this ad in the newspaper they would have skimmed right by it. It's not that I'm blind to the color of people's skin. I am admittedly prejudice in my thoughts at times, so it's not that I am immune to racist tendencies. This just didn't click with me as being a visual depiction of a racial epithet, i.e. monkey.

I still don't get the problem, it is not a Monkey in the photo, it is an ape!

Would it be OK if there were two white people either side?

The US is a strange place sometimes. Seriously, would someone please answer my question, 'So what happens on Hawaii Five O when the cop always calls his daughter monkey.'

I am just trying to get my head around this. I can see how the image can be taken but I can't see how the term 'Monkey' comes into it.

Confused:

Are you from Australia? Yal have like 3 African blacks. There's more blacks in America than the entire population of your country. Its not exactly a melting pot over there. It is true though being PC gets twisted and bent over here by people with an agenda far more than it is than about being sensitive to others.
