Free cloud storage. A nice idea if you have fast upload speeds but is it worth having ?

It can be, if you have a large enough cloud storage space and a real need, such as only having a 64 gigabyte SSD that came with your Surface tablet.

Today there are tons of companies offering small storage options from 2 to 10 gigs. I say forget these. I have found what I believe to be the best options for free cloud storage from 100 gigabytes up to a 1TB to a Whooping 10 TB's ! ( yes.. that reads Ten Terabytes )

Use at your own risk and never use cloud storage for critical data.

Lets start with the best option if you are in the USA.

SurDoc, based in California offers 100 Gigabytes of free cloud storage for 1 year. They charge only 30 dollars after the free year ends to continue the service. That's a Really good deal. Here is a C-net article on the offer and a link to the site itself.

These next options can be used if you are in the USA but the servers are not local to the USA so you will have to make sure your internet upload is really fast. (or you have lots of time)

China's, tech giants Baidu andQihoo 360 are currently offering 1TB of free space.

Hey.. if Sprint offered 1TB to 10 TB's of free cloud storage, you'd take it wouldn't you ? - This offer is no joke though you may have to jump through a few hoops to sign up. The company is rock solid with a huge world wide customer base and it's users so far seem very happy with the free cloud storage - I cannot find any negative dirt on the web about them.

Cloud storage is not the best solution for Any data. In this age of NSA spying and companies milking all the content for profit, you never know how safe your data is or who is using that data to do god only knows what. It's good however to know there are better options out there if one needs them.

As it stands right now, I wouldn't put my dogs medical records on the cloud, just don't trust it enough. Especially with the NSA having their grubby little hands into everything. IMHO, all of this "faux outrage" that governments around the world seem to be spewing about how their upset about being spied on seems alittle too fishy for my tastes.

I cant blame you.. in fact I currently don't use any cloud storage myself. I started researching this topic for a friend who bought a Surface 2 Pro tablet from Microsoft. The Surface 2 Pro came with a 64 gigabyte SSD and cannot be upgraded internally. It's an 1100 dollar toy that's not as powerful as my 400 dollar AMD/ATI laptop - and it has nothing for storage space. Only one PC game is taking up most of that space now. My friend has to use cloud storage until he can get an external hard drive.

I was surprised to find such good deals for free and wanted to share in case it could help others.

I was thinking on getting a Surface 2 then thought, I'm a gamer this won't work, lol. The first thing I do when I get a new laptop is replace the HD with an SSD (normally a 500gb). If my system isn't booted up in less then 20 seconds I gets cranky, lol.

I am very anti-cloud.

My data is MINE and I want to keep it with my physically. I don't want to suddenly be cut off from it because a company goes bankrupt or is seized by the government. Who knows who could "insert" fake data/files into your cloud storage to pin some kind of crime on you.

Nope, get a portable external drive. You can take it everywhere with you, and you know your data is only being viewed/used by you.

I'm actually quite alarmed at how many people are jumping on board and saying, "sure, let me give you all my files, pictures, music, movies!" Considering the entire fiasco with the NSA recently, uploading to the cloud is basically handing them everything about you on a silver platter.

In terms of privacy concerns? Well, I think if someone just recalls that nothing is free in life and they aren't doing this out of some sense of "giving back" to the world, one gig at a time? It's fine to use. Of course they are indexing everything uploaded at those sizes and resources. Of course they may..(or someone..to be vague and general) "borrow" the more interesting stuff in copies.

So, upload nothing to anyone, anywhere that someone wouldn't post in a thread right here for all to see. If it stands that test? Well, heck... I can absolutely use gigs of secondary storage for general stuff like that. It never hurts to decentralize storage these days. As long as something like this isn't single-copy storage for anything, I'd say.

I have somthing similar with 400GB storage on a 150GB connection and I can run many progams on it through my browser such as FTP and uTorrent perfect for anonymous downloads

For the purposes of this thread I'm looking for services that offer at least 100 gigabytes of cloud storage. Anything less isn't very useful. Perhaps they will post more details soon and they will be in this category.

I have 50gb with dropbox and have my samsung stock rom on it. Just to test. I dont get the allure of cloud storage yet. Pics sure. Music and videos? You, at least i, cant use it. And im not blowing my quota on downloading my own stuff, lol...

They need to provide this service for PS4 and Xbox One. It's easy to blow through a hard drive when one game is 64Gb to install.

The Xbox one should use their cloud server expertise to cut load times.
