Never going to happen.

You cant TELL people not to smoke. All you can do is feed more millions into the pockets of opportunist who make the push for "everyones good"....meanwhile they are just in it for millions in fines and taxes which are spent on those 4 hundred dollar hammers......

Please. How about everyone just live and let live.

Also if second hand smoke is an issue I suggest you move out of a metropolitan city where standing on an average street with through traffic produces more toxins from cars then every smoker in the city combined.

I never understood why in the US you can't drink till your 21, but you suck back cancer and tar all day long, 3 years earlier.

Then again, I'm a bit against the Gov telling you when it's ok to put stuff in your body, poison or not, but in this case I don't really see a need to complain.

They should treat cigarettes like do they do rat poison.

So, let me get this straight. No beer or smokes until you're 21? But you are allowed to do the following at 18 (and some prior to it, depending)

Work.
Gamble.
Get inked.
Get pierced.
Drive a vehicle.
Change your name.
Make or purchase porn. And toys
Go to war (where you may or may not eventually shoot at the opposition)

But you're not adult enough to smoke or drink? 0.o

NYC is the creator of the sum of all its problems inside and out. They squeeze and squeeze under the premise of protecting ourselves as they take more and more to do so.

Whats that got to do with the smoking age? Plenty. I do not think it will have the desired effect they are looking for. Just another rule to break so they can get more money out of you.

Remember folks, if she smokes, she pokes.

I know plenty of people who struggled to stop smoking due to high prices alone. Further regulate it and you'll see a decrease over time.

The majority of these young kids who smoke were either pressured into it or simply tried it because everyone else is doing it. You seem to view this issue as a personal attack on what you're able to do and aren't looking at it from any other point of view, are you a smoker? I view this from a personal point of view, keeping cigarettes away from my younger sister who tries it because friends around her do it, and when those friendships pass the addiction to the nicotine doesn't. She doesn't need that junk in her body and others influencing her to make dumb decisions because it's so easy for them to get their hands on cigarettes and distribute them.

No one mentioned second hand smoke as an issue. I emphasized I've done enough of that in my life being around heavy smokers, so I don't have a personal need or want for cigarettes myself.

I also think the second hand smoke from normal fags are blown way outa proportion, I always ask someone this when they moan about it.

"What would you prefer being in an enclosed room with 100 smokers or an enclosed room with one car running?"
They moan about 2nd hand smoke but are fine with walking down the road with cars spewing their fumes everywhere.

So . . . . um. . . . you don't need parents permission to get an abortion at the age of 15, you can buy the "day after pill" over the counter at 13. . . . . . yet you're not mature enough to purchase cigarettes until 21?

Our world is so screwed up.

ETA; I think we can safely say, "Welcome to Obamacare". Where the government can now step in an arbitrarily impose standards and limits to anything that they might deem as unhealthy.

Aren't cigarettes about ten bucks a pack in New York City? What kid can afford that anyway?

Stupid law, and stupid reason to implement it.

The fact that the city council consists largely of democrats does not mean they are always taking "liberal" decisions. The political ideology of the party does not necessarily mean they are always making decisions according to the political ideology (although Democrats are not liberals). Right wingers can sometimes take left-wing decisions and the opposite.

This particular decision is conservative one, whoever took it.

You don't see the hypocrisy of a Supposed Liberal Government making such Conservative Restrictions? That's the point I am trying to make.

I find it remarkably funny that so called progressives seem more restrictive than any other group in their whole thought process.

Don't You?

Btw, I don't smoke, never have. I take a Libertarian viewpoint on it. If you want to kill yourself with Cigarettes ect, knock yourself out. As long as I don't have to pay anything extra to support your stupid habit and you don't hurt anyone else doing it, go ahead and kill yourself early.

Astounding. The corruption goes so deep even on this site. Not shocking. My post only pointed to "G-Pen" which is a discreet way to smoke drug subatances that many youth in NYC are doing in the workplace and violating others' breathing spaces in their doing that.

I posted 2 links to this very related topic due to the implications banning cigarette purchases on the youths would promote this illicit smoking practice and how the city really isn't quite what you think when it comes to smoking. If any mod sees this, please review the terminology/reasoning behind the removal of my post above and explain how my reply wasn't relevant to the topic at hand.

How is a replated reply a "Serious terms violation"? Does the moderator live in NYC and smoke discreetly this way? At least send me a PM with an explanation. Seriously? I thought this site was a place for discussion, the CNN boards even have more openness.
