Hi folks,

I am living in the centre of France but have been awake since 4 this morning due to very high winds starting to pick up here, so battening down the hatches for the day and apparently for the next 48 hours as the height of the storm is expected for this evening and during the night (Sunday).

For the UK : Currently on Yellow alert

A powerful weather system developing over the Atlantic could see Britain battered with some of the worst weather conditions since the Great Storm of 1987, forecasters are predicting.

The storm is expected to reach the south coast of England on Sunday night and into Monday, bringing exceptionally strong winds. It could develop winds hitting 12 on the Beaufort Scale - the strength of a hurricane.

More here : www.independent.co.uk...

A near real time weather map for the UK can be found here : www.xcweather.co.uk...

For France : Starting to go to orange alert in all northern regions according to BFM news.

Winds have been pretty strong up North and in the centre as i said earlier on since around 4 this morning (already have a few tiles off the roof), and getting stronger as the hours pass. Currently 07:10 in the morning here and day is breaking, the sky is a black red from the South east that i have not seen in years.

A real time online weather alert can be found here for those of you living over here :

meteoalerte.com...

Take care to all of our members who may be affected by this spell of nasty weather.

Kindest respects

Rodinus

Sorry Rodinus, but this is about the 6th or 7th thread on this topic.

This one www.abovetopsecret.com... is still on the new topics list.

I don't mean to be grumpy because I love your posts, most of the time.

Perhaps you could change the title to "Update on the storm ...."

Peace my friend.

Keep safe my friend. That haven of natures beauty that you call home looks inviting. Calm, serene and natures goodness outside your front door, I am envious.

I hope mother nature treats you kindly. Sometimes she can be a bit bitchy though. I lost everything in 2010 due to a flood so I know what She can do.

Can I suggest you put 'Update thread' in the title, we could probs use one of those to report on the Storm as it happens and in the aftermath!

Hi from South Coast of Devon. The winds are picking up and we have the odd spot of rain.

I have to go into hospital on Tuesday for an op, so hope that the weather won't hit my bit of Devon so hard.
The last storm in 1987 did gterrible damage as it seemed to come ashore where we lived then, in Hove. We lived opposite a park with very old trees, each one was laid onto its side with a huge hole left where its roots use to be. It was a terrible sight to see these majestic trees fully exposed and so badly hit, not to mention the damage to people's homes.

We were in St Lucia when Hurricane Allan hit and I watched from the window the palm trees, which were bent parallel to the ground, within seconds they suddenly shot off like rockets when the roots gave out.

Hope everyone who lives in the affected areas will be safe and sound.

Cheers Rodimus, keep the hatches battened down.

Actually Rodinus, your thread is very much still relevant, as the other threads focus on the UK, whereas your's includes France.

Which is important, as according to one weather specialist, the eye of the storm is set to be over Normandy and not London.

"I would say, and our maps of 6 weeks ago imply this, that the storm centre will take something of a rightward turn away from the MetO map below from 27th so Normandy rather than London will be the bullseye. London and the South will will still be very windy suffering gales, severe gales and also damaging storm winds mainly in the Southwest.

Thank you for bringing the relevance of France's currnet weather system to the table.

Ah yes...the old saying.... " red sky at night ,sailor delight.....red sky in the morn. Sailor take WARN ! " ...........stay safe and stay inside...... It's not the wind that kills you, it's what's flying around in the wind that kills you! Like a loose street sign or piece of wood upside your head!
