Actually came across this reading a different story about HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius saying that she wasn't signing up for Obamacare (of course she's not.)

Sen. Rand Paul last week introduced S.J. Res. 25, a Constitutional Amendment Holding Gov Officials to Same Standard as the American people

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) says government officials like Sebelius should be required to live under the same laws they impose on everyone else.

Paul is now plugging a constitutional amendment that states, "Congress shall make no law applicable to a citizen of the United States that is not equally applicable to Congress." The amendment also contains two provisions that apply that same principle to the Executive Branch and Judicial Branch of the federal government. cnsnews

The amendment states that "Congress shall make no law applicable to a citizen of the United States that is not equally applicable to Congress." The amendment also contains two provisions that apply that same principle to the Executive Branch and Judicial Branch of the federal government. The amendment text can be found below:

'Section 1. Congress shall make no law applicable to a citizen of the United States that is not equally applicable to Congress.

'Section 2. Congress shall make no law applicable to a citizen of the United States that is not equally applicable to the executive branch of Government, including the President, Vice President, ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, and all other officers of the United States, including those provided for under this Constitution and by law, and inferior officers to the President established by law.

'Section 3. Congress shall make no law applicable to a citizen of the United States that is not equally applicable to judges of the Supreme Court of the United States, including the Chief Justice, and judges of such inferior courts as Congress may from time to time ordain and establish.

'Section 4. Nothing in this article shall preempt any specific provision of this Constitution.'

Normally I'm against monkeying around with the Constitution but in this case it seems like a good idea. Chances of it passing though? Probably zilch.

It's supposed to be that way anyway, sad there needs to be an amendment specifically stating that, but it is needed for checks and balances, no step downs or to the sides to escape prosecution. I'd like them to push term limits. Of course the people this regulates has to vote for it to pass... good luck with that Rand.

I don't think it will pass, but we need to get on our reps anyway.

Theres one thing this may do even with out passing, Wake some people up to the imbalance and unfairness they face here in America.

The game is rigged and it seems like more and more they don't care that we know it, its a very frightening thought.

I have difference with Rands politics, sometimes I feel hes trying to pander just to stay in office, other times he does things like this that make me think hes just smarter than his Dad at playing the game.

The problem is there is a game to play in the first place, OUR reps should be able to stand on their beliefs backed by their constituents with out having to do the political theater in the first place.

The apple does not fall far from the tree:

www.youtube.com...

When Ron Paul was running for POTUS, someone said, "in all his years, the guy hasnt gotten any legislation passed".

Of-course not. Take this Bill for example: that the government cant do anything which would be illegal for the average American...

The scum in government dont want to be held accountable for their crimes.

You do realize that this statement makes absolutely no sense...right?

She has health insurance through her employer, which is the federal government, she is 100% compliant with the ACA's individual mandate.

FORCING her to drop her employer insurance to sign up through the exchanges is an inequality, because the law doesn't force everyone to sign up through the exchanges. Currently, there is an inequality for Congressional staff because they are being FORCED to drop their employer insurance and sign up through the exchanges...do you think that is fair?

Do you think it is fair for laws to require Congressional staff to do something that no one else has to?

Rand Paul isn't an idiot, he knows this...but he knows his audience well and he knows that he can lie to their face and they will eat it up.

Oh of course not, perish the thought. That these cretins would have to come down off the mountain and live by the same standards they're forcing on everyone else is a terrible idea *wink, wink*.

We get it, they're special. /sarc off/

Yea, she has health care that was voted in by people in her position...

As well as pay rates done the same way.

The game is rigged, if the US was a business it would be failing badly due to the mismanagement of the executives.

Its akin to the Golden Parachutes CEO's give themselves.

Just because its the way it is, doesn't mean its right.

It can be fun to pretend the Constitution has any bearing whatsoever on the government.

I like Rand Paul for the most part, but when are we going to man up and have an adult discussion about the gravity of the situation we face? These knick-knack proposals are good for headlines, face time on the news and to satisfy the rabble for a bit, big deal.

Joke's on us. The DC boys knows what's coming down the pike. The turd's a'swirlin and the boat's a'sinkin, ladies and gents. What use have we of clever politicians on the tilting deck of the Titanic? It's like the ship has broken in half and they want to talk about the weather.

His father was outspoken about the central banks. There's a good start, Rand.

Rand Paul is a MORON...

Is he unaware that members of Congress are citizens of the United States??? Thus already subject to the laws?

Or is he just trying to circle jerk his base once again????

Next up...Rand Paul proposes and amendment that requires the American Flag to be flown outside the Whitehouse!!!

Whoopee...circus of idiots!!

Obama illegally altered law to make an exemption where by many .gov employees or "officials" however you want to think of them, and their staff are not required to comply with this "law".

Tell Obama your not doing a very good job at shilling for him, because many of us see right through your crap.

Maybe you should be retrained at the official "department of propaganda ", because you suck at your job.....just sayin!

Falling back on name calling seems pretty common from the left wingers, moron, terrorist, Taliban, traitors, etc. That all you got?

As far as congress being subject to the laws of the US you mean like allowing themselves insider trading privileges? Yeah right, they make up special laws for themselves and claim to be just like the rest of Americans. Give me a break.

Bingo!!!!!! We have a BINGO here!!!!!

If a gas station attendant finds out the price of gas is going up tomorrow, and tells family and friends to fill up now, they are subject to the insider trading laws.

If a politician knows they are about to secret through legislation that will harm or help certain sectors of the economy, and they base their trades on it, they are not breaking the law.............one of these things is not like the other.

On one side we see the usual crowd looking for equality and fairness and on the other side, we see the usual crowd balking at the idea of fairness.

Progressive ideology doesn't like equality. It is an elitist mindset that infects republicans and democrats. Progressives don't just THINK that they are better than everyone else, they KNOW that they are better and KNOW that they deserve more than the rest.
Common law does not apply to progressives. They are either victims or defenders so that whatever law they ignore, it is justified in their minds.

And that is not true by any standard of reality.

Congress was 1st subject to the law...which is to say they didn't have to worry, because they already got their insurance through an employer.

Then the GOP in a rhetorical maneuver DEMANDED that they be treated differently under the law and be forced to switch to the Exchange program.

They passed that bill and the President signed it.

Then they changed their mind and asked it be returned back...cuz the GOP wanted to keep their employer insurance.

Now...this isn't opinion...it is FACT.

They were treated DIFFERENTLY from other Americans when the GOP first demanded they lose their employer coverage and go on Obamacare if it was passed.

Then they demanded to get that coverage back..

Congress is exempt from Obamacare. False.

Even a few sitting lawmakers have repeated this claim, but it’s not true. Congress is not exempt from Obamacare. Like everyone else, lawmakers are required to have health insurance. They’re also required to buy insurance through the marketplaces. The idea is to have lawmakers and their staff buy insurance the same way their uninsured constituents would so they understand what their constituents have to deal with. Most Americans who already get insurance through work are left alone under the law; members of Congress have insurance through work but are treated differently in this regard. Recently, a rule was added so that lawmakers’ could keep the traditional employer contribution to their coverage. But they weren’t exempt from requirements that other Americans face. We rated this claim False.

Sen. Ted Cruz says Obama 'just granted all of Congress an exception' to Obamacare: FALSE

‘Congress should get the same coverage’

For many years, Congress chose from a variety of insurance plans offered by the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, which serves more than 8 million federal and retired workers and their dependents.

That stops in January, when lawmakers and some staff will be required instead to pick from plans on the health care law’s new exchanges — now known as marketplaces.

That’s because Congress faces a specific Obamacare provision forcing lawmakers from their current plans into new marketplaces — something that doesn’t apply to other Americans.

(Most people with health care through large employers won’t see significant changes under the law. They’re not required to use the marketplaces, which were designed to offer more options for small businesses and the uninsured.)

Back in 2009, Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley argued that "members of Congress should get the same coverage that we are coming up with for everyone else." He offered an amendment that required lawmakers to get their health care through the marketplaces created by the bill. It was accepted by the Senate Finance Committee without objection.

And Right Wing Ideology doesn't like reality????

WTF??? Seriously???

The GOP demanded that congress go on Obamacare, despite the law not requiring them to, since they got insurance through their employer. They passed a bill doing just that. Then they change their mind and demand an exception to THE LAW TARETING THEMSELVES THAT THEY PASSED. AND OBAMA SAYS OK AND GRANTS THEM THE EXCEPTION...MAKING IT JUST LIKE BEFORE..>THE SAME FOR AVERAGE AMERICANS...IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE THROUGH YOUR EMPLYER YOU CAN KEEP IT. AND HOW IS THAT UNEQUAL???

that is true, but it is also true that employers are cutting employees back to less than 30 hours and laying people off so they don't have to pay for obamacare.

i don't see any layoffs in congress or any one being fired up there.
