The use of computers for alien communication

I want you to consider minds so advanced so as to dwarf the capacity of humans by an exponential degree. Can your human mind comprehend this? And more important can your human mind accept this? Would such minds create a feeling of inferiority and anxiety if humans were exposed to them? Most often yes - human egotism often blocks pathways to human intelligence and the confrontation with an alien species would further compound the problem. In experimental models and in actual field trials we have found Man does not trust species superior to himself - And Man fears the future because he has yet to develop a paradigm for its manifestation. Your current development of computers and advancing artificial intelligence may open the door and bridge the gap between humans and aliens. As man realizes that he is creating a superior intellect to himself he may finally break the binds constricting his intelligence to the past and allow the advanced aliens some now can only dream about to manifest with mental and physical communication finally becoming possible.

In some cosmologies, especially Oriental such as Buddhism, all of existence is mind and there is in fact One mind of which all is composed. In such a universe it may often be easier to communicate with the more logical ET mind than that of the emotional and unstable human mind - Consider this viewpoint as hypothetical as they might consider Human intelligence as hypothetical. Some might even speculate that to an advanced alien species Human ingtelligence is still viewed as mythical.

OP when you say you're developing (as opposed to we're developing, implying you're not with us) superior intellect... what is this?

Not the computers as they have no intellect. Just logic and artificially implemented variants of that to appear intelligent, but no intellect even at the basic level of it all..


Everything about AI is defined. We may, one day, have something that can grow beyond the capacities of it's data banks and start using the usb port for processing even more and more knowledge, where we'll need a billion usb sticks to keep it content while it whips us with old utp cables with the ends still on so it really really hurts..

but that guy from star trek voyager was only an actor... he didn't really have any problems with corrupted storage because he grew to smart.

We're not emulating tv yet.

Besides, aliens don't have voice boxes, or ambidextrous hands, they can neither talk to siri, nor swipe..

we're safe.

Judging by some of the things I have seen posted on this site I would say they have already infiltrated ATS.

To bestow the powers of intellect upon a computer, is the modern equivalent of ascribing supernatural power to a carved wooden god.

I would agree that computers are making possible all kinds of development, some of which may allow us to inhabit a greater portion of the cosmos, and interact with our neighbours -- but I hope we get relations with our earthly neighbours sorted first -- we are not mature enough as yet to socialise.

More like seeing a reflection of your consciousness magnified many times over and in many directions and/or dimensions. The existence of a separate alien intelligence still remains speculative but many might consider it probable. But whether this consciousness exists in real time now and in this universe would depend on what you consider consciousness, time, and the universe to be. UFOs moving with the appearance of intelligence and some
crop circles [not proven to be hoaxes] are interesting phenomena indicating external intelligence.

It is possible that using advanced computing methods, for instance developing field of quantum computing is showing promise, we may be able to decrypt and analyse more complex linguistic structures. However, that would only come into play with regard to the alien question, assuming we recieved written documents or communiques from a non Terran source. As of yet, there is not a definitive answer to even that simple question, so the entire thought would appear somewhat moot at this point.

You may be surprised, I do NOT think that computers will be the solution to communicate with aliens.

I actually think the key would be more "esoteric" means like OBE experiences, altered states of consciousness possibly even drugs since there is a likelihood that "aliens" do not inhabit THIS physical reality which we call our own.

MIND YOU there is a reason why any time alien encounters are reported, typical abduction experience etc. but also alien experiences using drugs like [CANNOT NAME HERE] it *always* involves altered states of consciousness. The classic "OZ effect". Why is that? Think about it...

Some might consider computers to be an 'altered state of consciousness' as they do not quite think like their human creators. And the potential for altered states through artificial intelligence can be mind altering [pun intended]. And in one of these altered states ET many manifest.

They are not interested in 'communicating' with us. If they were they would have done so long ago. They are only interested in creating a myth to attract people and sift out those they have use for. The rest, they send away. They know The Change is coming and they want hybrids to serve them in the world that is to come.

O.P I concur in this manner :
If the human race encountered an alien species that was superior too us, I feel we would be hostile toward them.
The reasons would be many including practical things like perceived security threats to petty things like envy.
A visiting species would have to be quite wise to interpret our responses, in a way that didn't raise their alien eyebrows and possibly illicit a chastisement.

not sure where the computers would come in, but they would definitely be on hand

Just the belief in the supernatural power of 'a carved wooden god' affects the existent paradigm of those who so believe. Admittedly the effect is limited to the mind set and may not 'prove' of much value. But computers are a different kind of animal - they do think - and in some ways they think faster and better than the humans who created them.
As to whether the computer has a consciousness of its own is not relative to what I'm proposing - which is that an expanded human consciousness via computers and artificial intelligence may open a perceptual door to a mind or
minds so advanced that the normal human consciousness can not perceive them and because this mind is so advanced beyond that of humans, has no interest in communicating with humans until humans show an intelligence advanced enough for them to communicate with and advanced computers may show them humans are intelligent enough to communicate with.

You make a nice point concerning the powers of belief, and of course, a computer could serve the same purpose as a carved idol, or other totem .

You see it otherwise, but for me it is not the brain that instigates thought, it's the mind.
A computer is a brain, not a mind.
So it can't think.

Consciousness in my view resides in every atom of the computer, the desk it sits on, and the air surrounding -- but it is consciousness appropriate to the situation, or level, that the atom occupies.
I don't think they'd get mixed up in our extra-terrestrial social life, they have their own stuff to do.

Remember AlienView, before you dream of contacting advanced civilisations -- nothing we could say to the aliens would speak more eloquently of our intelligence, than the state of the planet we call home.
