I don't know where you get your history from - russia and hitler were together - before they were apart -

What are your views on mao and chavez?

That would be an interesting take on history again -

Pol pot - any opinion?

What other communist dictactors are there?

They were at the start of the war, but that doesn't mean that the Nazi's were communists. Hitler's biggest mistake was turning on Russia. They were a facist state in policy, and employed socialistic economic measures to rapidly recover their economy.

en.wikipedia.org...

On the night of 27 February 1933, the Reichstag building was set afire; Marinus van der Lubbe, a Dutch communist, was found guilty of starting the blaze. Hitler proclaimed that the arson marked the start of a communist uprising. Violent suppression of communists by the Sturmabteilung (SA) was undertaken all over the country, and four thousand Communist Party of Germany members were arrested.

n March 1933, the Enabling Act, an amendment to the Weimar Constitution, passed in the Reichstag by a vote of 444 to 94.[17] This amendment allowed Hitler and his cabinet to pass laws—even laws that violated the constitution—without the consent of the president or the Reichstag.[18] As the bill required a two-thirds majority to pass, the Nazis used the provisions of the Reichstag Fire Decree to keep several Social Democratic deputies from attending; the Communists had already been banned

I'm not going to even justify going over all the different forms of totalitarianism that have occurred over the course of history. That is where your issue lies, not with communism, socialism or anything else. You have a problem - and rightly so - with despotic tyrants that murder millions to keep their power. Obama has never done this (no, drone strikes don't count) and will never be able to do it. Well maybe, if he declares a national emergency due to us defaulting on our debt.

Oh good, then maybe you read this one too and let it soak in. I doubt it thought.

That said, there is clearly a pattern of S&F on this board by the right-leaning members. Heck, you posted a 1-line sarcastic question and received like 6 stars for it the other day. No offense, but it had no real meat to the conversation beyond a quick Obama bash, but wheeee to the upvotes. It's pretty disturbing at how our society has gotten to the point we champion ha-ha 1-liners instead of well articulated information.

Really......? Tell that to the victims.

Proponents of the drone war, including President Barack Obama, claim that drone strikes are precise and only target terrorists. But a study from Columbia Law School’s Human Rights Institute finds that the number of Pakistani civilians killed in drone strikes is “significantly and consistently underestimated" and that as many as 98% of those killed by drone strikes are civilians.

Obama isn't anything comparable to Hitler aside from both of them being cults of personality with little personal substance.

A far more accurate comparison (though the mechanisms of their economic devastation were a bit different) would be found in comparing Obama to Heinrich Bruning, the last "real" chancelor of the Weimar Republic. Bruning's economic policy was to devalue the Reichsmark through price controls in an attempt to combat a vicious deflationary spiral caused by the Great Depression. Obama has brought the dollar to the devaluation threshold thanks to a gross overreaction, "Quantitative Easing", to prevent a natural deflationary period that the US absolutely should have allowed to happen 5 years ago.

The end result of Bruning's poor leadership was the suffering of the German people became so great, they elected Adolph Hitler and allowed him to crush the remains of the Weimar Republic under his heel. The end result of Obama could very well be the rise to power of an American tyrant... we will just have to wait and see.

A lot of this was already in the works before Obama took office. So I guess instead of comparing Obama to Hitler, we should compare the U.S. to Nazi Germany.

When we have citizens gunned down by drones, Gestapo tactics used in our residential areas, etc, I think we really need to re-evaluate this oligarchy that we've allowed to be built on top of our republic.

Maybe you should read my signature.

Leadership failure.

Thats what Obama is all about. He said it. I didn't.

How does an Obama supporter try to rationalize what he said? How does one claim hes wrong on this, even when they staunchly support EVERYTHING this man says?

They change the subject.

Now,ATS frowns upon attacking the thread author or poster. If you look at my threads, and posts you will see I blame EVERYONE. Democrats, Republicans, you name it. I dont drink Obama shoe polish. I hold him more accountable because hes the Frigin President. He has failed us.

My threads/posts are out there for anyone to see, and comment on them. If you dont like it, dont read it or comment on it.

Like I said. Attack the ball, not the player. Its quite simple.

Definitely agree with the above, although I think this time the transition was designed to be slower and more deliberate. Instead of one big Reichstag bonfire, America has taken the course of having a number of smaller fires which will eventually complex themselves into a doozey. 9/11, the Patriot Act, the patriot Act under Obama (there is a HUGE difference between the two... the Act under Obama has been turned towards the internal and has been used primarily against Americans.), the NSA, Obamacare, the systemic destruction of America's economy, prosperity, future, traditions, and even the concept of American Exceptionalism... all will combine eventually to make Americans desperate enough to grasp at any despot who promises them a return to glory and a return to prosperity. That is how dictators are made.

Did you ever stop and think that maybe there is a reason everyone stars anti Obama posts and that it isn't just a "click"? Go take a look at the polls for a clue. And they will only get worse. I can sense a ton of stars in my future, right about NOW.

Yeah it is more than just Obama that is evil here. Except Obama shouldn't be defending the NSA and endorsing the loss of privacy for Americans. Americans expect the president to be their advocate, which just isn't happening. Obviously he doesn't have very many friends these days, thus why he has to steal our buddy lists.

Because the average person wants things simple and quick, this is why twitter is such a hit. It's 1-liners to convey a quick message. This is why UX/UI (User Experience/User Interface) designers are taught to never put something more then 3 clicks deep in a program/website, or users will never see it.

Face it - humanity is pretty damn stupid as a whole, and while our Democratic Republic has had a great run, the propaganda that has gone on for the last 100 years has gradually made our citizens more prone to knee-jerk reactions (myself included) over issues that are inherently complex. The population wants to think about them in as simple of terms as possible. This is why big scary numbers (like our debt) are posted instead of percentages, or deficit to GDP ratios when addressing complex issues. It gives people the sensation that because they can say the debt is 16 trillion dollars, they have a clue about how macro-economics works.

You even posted an agreement to this in another thread that I brought to light about how short, and negative, messages work the best on a subliminal level.

This is so sad. I wouldn't disgrace the great German economists Hitler by doing this to Obama. But then I guess the megalomaniac mass murder side of Hitler will fit right in with Obama.

On a lighter note, I may have found my second avatar on ATS since 2009.

Ya know?, the fact that a vast majority of the world views the U.S. as Nazi America is actually kind of cool. - There is so much infatuation with the Nazis, that (forgive me if this comes out wrong) I'm proud to say that I am a member of the fourth Reich.

Yet this is all stuff that was enacted during Bush's terms in office, and built over those years into the beast it is today. Do I agree with the NSA's gathering of data? Absolutely not. It's abhorrent on all levels, and needs to stop. I'm happy that there's being legislation being enacted to stop it as well.

However the NSA issue is really one that is an issue of technology and humanity's increasing access to information, and the desire to design complex information systems. Look at the Watson super computer as an example, it could be used by the NSA to be the first line of information analysis and would be a million times better at it, and more accurate, then any human. On a long-term basis, it would also be cheaper too then paying 100 Snowdens $250,000/yr salaries. Likewise all data the NSA has collected could be encrypted and only accessible if it's tied to a case that's flagged by Watson.

So would it improve terrorist activity detections? Maybe, maybe not. We have the capability to employ it for this purpose though.

This is just one issue that's facing our world due to technological advances. Here's a bigger one on the long-term timeline.

It's hypthesised that the first person to live to 500 years old, is already alive. This is a hypothesis made by the same man that owns the patents on the watson super-computer (Ray Kurzweil) and can you imagine the resource wars that will happen once people stop dieing natural deaths? How about cyborgs... we're about 30 years away from those according to him.

Granted if the US defaults, maybe these advancements will only be available to the 1% so we won't have to worry about overpopulation, the rich just won't die (kinda like how Dick Cheney doesn't have a heart - literally - or a pulse).

TL
R version - Just blame Obama.

Back up.... Back up all the way to the first line before the rest of that dribble.

According to the NSA Author, The Obama admin sequel to the Patriot Act is not how it was intended to be. And he is fighting tooth and nail for the repeal of the Patriot Act and also for the firing of Clapper. You can't Blame Bush for an Obama admin rewrite of the rules.
