skuly

If Zerohedge is reading this right then if there no deal in Congress then the food stamps stops
and with 47 million on them its going to hurt a lot of people.

When a corporation wants to get rid of what it perceives to be a problem, such as unions as an example and at the same time want to steal what their problem has, what do corporations do?

Hmmm, take GM for example, claim bankruptcy, fire/layoff everyone, offer payouts and then rape the pension fund. If a government were to do the same... Collapse the national currency, claim bankruptcy, cancel all social programs, expropriate property and then rape every pension fund they can get their hands on.

Governments are corporations too ;-) More importantly, governments are run by criminals, organized criminals.

Cheers - Dave

Don't scare the littler people, this whole shut down and scaremongering is nothing but political crap played on those that believe anything you tell them.

We have three branches of government, when two can not make out their mind and start screwing with the people's well being the supreme court have the power to step in, is just that never before in the history of the US the supreme court had to step in to spank the other two branches of government for screwing up.

US has never defaulted in its debt before in the last 17 times that is been a shutdown, always is a compromise and agreement reached to keep the government working.

This will be over soon.

I tell you what happen to America,

When the corporate dictatorship too over the government they found a way to screw the working tax payer class to keep paying for the poor while the rich just keep getting richer and in top of that they made sure that when their money runs low they still can screw the working class more to pay for shortcomings.

This is the bastardized socialism we got in the nation, only the working class are the ones that pays the most for the support of the poor.

It was ok for a while when the nation was prosperous, but now that the working class is been hit bad with outsourcing and lost of income, things are not going to be looking good, specially with the new Obamacrap taxes.

Hello again Marg

marg6043
Disability checks, military retirement, medicare, Medicaid and SS are into those programs that have to be kept open even under a shut down, the government can use scare tactics about no sending them but is just that scaremongering.

Welfare and food stamp is another story, those social programs are no a right but a service.

Haven't heard about Medicare but Medicaid is being shutdown. Just not right away. No one takes it anyhow. It WAS Obamacare. They are saying Medicaid was just paid a quarter in advance so I guess you would see a shutdown in January for that.

Think I cleared up food stamps and TANF in my last post. Those have already been put on notice. SNAP and WIC IMO will not be issued for November. TANF maybe not. TANF should have gone long before food stamps. You know I am surprised they didn't kick medicaid immediately, no one takes it the only thing that its good for is a very small list of prescriptions.

Anyhow here's the site it explains forward funding and why things shutdown at different times. I believe SS etc... is all mandatory, no really they are. ;p

Unlike TANF EBT etc... that everyone was saying was mandatory. Section 8 is up in the air at the moment.

Perhaps we are to learn that the so call debt ceiling and government shut down is nothing but a scam that has been played on the population for years.

In other words it doesn't matter anymore, the debt ceiling could be eradicated and changed for indefinite spending.

Things are going to get very interesting by tomorrow.

Clinton shut down lasted 28 days, with ongoing negotiations to pass bills to keep the government running.

It should not be any different this time around.

Yes is been a lot of talks about what could be funded or not, that is up to the morons in Washington to decide during negotiations of what is priority during the shut down.

Now like you say SS, medicare will be pay and should also be Medicaid they are the three main entitlement programs, in any case that any of those three programs gets caught up on the shut down I believe the supreme court will step in to spank congress and the president.

But any other programs is fair game right now, my husband is a retired Marine we have not gotten any letters yet of any delays and he was told that military retirement falls under the military pay, now disability can fall also within the other three main programs.

Slow down. Please. There is no precedent for gov picking and choosing what gets paid other than on the debt which is a constitutional amendment. None. In fact, the system that pays America's bills pays them in order of how they came in. Period. No prioritization and no one is real sure what is even allowed. This would be a default with very different and far worse problems than a partial shutdown. We are already in unchartered water here without a paddle. And it's fascism not socialism that stole your money.

Rest...we may all need it in the coming days. It is not a scam. It's pretty serious actually.

Nite. Really this time. May our hearts and minds meet somewhere on common ground.

In the very near future I think it is a very possible process. I do not think the government will reopening in 24 hours. I don't even think a deal will be reached on the debt ceiling.

My country is just a mess. I predict a credit downgrade regardless.

Socialism was first now some wants to call it fascism, because many can never digest that socialism is alive and well in America.

Still, I see what is coming as nothing but scaremongering, US has never defaulted in the last 17 times that the government had a shut down, people forget either because they were too young or just short time memories that during the last Shut down under Clinton, it lasted 28 days but the government were able to come to agreement on funding key areas of the government, we survived that time I am sure that we will survive again.

I am not scare, why should I be, I was in my thirties when the Clinton shut down and remember all the scaremongering and political crap, is not that much different this time around, just that they use to call the back pay IOUs and became a joke among government workers, my husband was an active Marine and we didn't suffer with pay.

Now as a retire Marine his retirement has not suffered yet, we still have not gotten any letters about delays and he works now for the government as a private contractor and getting his pay in time, all the civil workers that work at the military base he works at, are back at work again since last week.

Things are not what it seems, is just that the governments wants people to think otherwise.

Just to help out a bit. TANIF (cash payments or welfare), isnt just for women. In fact I know two men on it right now. Both are single parents. It is evidently for parents only. So even a two parent household - with neither working - can get this cash. They changed it awhile ago (few years maybe) so you now have to be looking for work for 30 hours a week or be in a work program - to earn the money. So someone may work at goodwill (or another contracted place), 30 hours a week and get 600 in cash benefits (I'm not exactly sure the the amounts but I hear a lot of complaining of how it isn't even minimum wage). Basically - I take it to be something that is supposed to motivate people to get a job.

But cash assistance used to be just that - just give it and not have much accountability. I think its all States, but may also just in the State I live in now (I am not 100% on that). What I do know is its for anyone with kids. The more kids the more cash. I don't think organizations that sign up for work are paid by the person contracting either. For example - goodwill is a big one where I live. The people who own goodwill are very weathy yet they are not paying these wages. It is supplemented by the government until the person is hired as a regular staff person.

It’ll be OK. I’ll wake up soon and realize it’s all been just a bad dream. A very, VERY bad dream.

When I was younger it never dawned on me this country would ever sink so low. It’s beyond me what a mess we’ve made of things in just the last 15 years. What’s going on in our nation’s capitol these days is absolutely disgraceful. It’s not just shameful and disgusting - it’s downright criminal! And what’s even more outrageous is that these mentally unstable jerks were actually voted into office. Our whole society has gone mad!

As I recall, when Clinton left office we were sitting on a budget surplus. Then along came George Bush, who left us with $10 trillion of debt and an ecconomy on the verge of collapse. For God’s sake, we’ve been spending a fortune the last 10 years on the 2 wars Bush started during his term and on cleaning up the messes he left. So, please, I don’t want to hear about how it’s all Obama’s fault, because that’s simply not true. As a matter of fact, in the last couple years our deficit has been shrinking significantly, and our budget is not out of control, regardless of what they might be saying on Fox News. But even so, it could still take a generation or 2 to straighten out all the damage Bush did while he held the reigns.

Anyway, for the life of me I can’t imagine where these lunatics in Congress are coming from. The very idea that they’re not only willing, but actually eager about the prospect of tanking our economy is simply unthinkable. They didn’t go to Washington to fix our economy, they went there to burn the place down. To me it’s not only vile and despicable, it’s now crossed the line to become treasonous and should be dealt with accordingly. It’s criminal what these thugs are doing to our country. They really are dangerous and should be stopped. And SOON.

No, this is definitely not the country I grew up in. I barely even recognize it anymore. It once had greatness and was well respected around the world. But now, it’s just a cold, bitter place; void of any caring or compassion for others. It’s dog eat dog out there, and to hell with the rest. Where did all this anger and venom come from, anyway? It’s blinding us all and making it impossible to move forward as a nation. We’ll be a 3rd world country before long if the monsters in Congress have their way.

What a cryin’ shame. I never would’ve believed it...

"I never thought we would see the day when
America turned its back on its people and blindly
let people starve. But then I never thought I
would see this either..."

Because they are out of touch with reality. Out of touch with what real people have to do on a daily basis. When was the last time you think any one of them pumped their own gas? Or walked into a grocery store?

Do you think a single ONE knows about the EBT "glitch" this past weekend?

Be for real. For the most part, none of them have the slightest idea what a normal person below "upper middle class" has to deal with. They are shut off in their own little worlds with aides that hand deliver them coffee. They read a couple of our whiney emails now and again, but they don't even comprehend what they are reading.

Rarely, if ever, do most of them step outside the political bubble of D.C., and when they do, it is to jet home for a 3 day weekend with a full staff at home, too. Limo drivers, maids, yard keepers.

Then, they make fun of people like Palin, and Cruz, who still live in OUR world. But, that's okay, because it suits the agenda to poke fun at the only people that ARE still in touch.

Palin is a multi-millionaire as is Cruz who was Boehner's lawyer a few years back, worked on the Bush-Cheney campaign and is married to a regional director for Goldman-Sachs....how exactly do they still live in OUR world?

I heard about this story and have been checking it out. I thought for sure this would be in the hoax bin. Please look closely at this letter and tell me if you think it is legit. To save you some time. I have checked out that the two women mentioned: Audrey Rowe really is the FNS Adminstrator and Jessica Shahin is the Associate Adminster of the SNAP program.

Because they have money, does not mean they are not still in touch. Romney is rich too, but they all pump their own gas, they all go to the store, and they all have a realistic grasp on the real world.

It isn't the money, it is the attitude.

I don't think it is a hoax, it seems legitimate to me. I'm going to go grocery shopping tomorrow (the 16th) because the 17th might be a bit hairy in the grocery store.

I am now under the impression that we are going to hit the debt ceiling and then the Tea Party is going to take the fall for it. Next month might be a bit bumpy, I'm not sure about after that.

The letter looks legit.

I also verified the names, BUT, one part does not make sense. It gives the email for Jessica Shahin, and the only problem with that is, aren't all government agencies prohibited from using email during the shutdown?

One thing I did find that appears to confirm this is real, however.

The letter mentions the "FNS Emergency Contingency plan" from October, 2013. So, I simply googled it, an low and behold, there is a PDF from the USDA about this Emergency Contingency Plan, dated Oct. 2013...

www.google.com... 7x4DoBQ&usg=AFQjCNHTSuDxM82KJXw_8BhXIZj9k_LHQg&sig2=2oCbZ7IvIkn9_cXQHAX_og

If the link doesn't work, it's HUGE, and a PDF, just google the phrase I did:

Fns emergency contingency plan oct 2013

ETA: here is the text from the above link. This is as real as can be:

" The previous page is sending you to www.usda.gov..."

If this is a hoax, it is rather elaborate, that pdf document is 31 pages, and looks legit.

Also, the USDA Website itself also references the Contingency plan:

www.usda.gov...

" To view U.S. Department of Agriculture Agency Contingency plans, visit: www.whitehouse.gov..."

Following that link takes you to an entire page of government agencies, including Department of Agriculture, and lists a link to a pdf for each agency.

There is NOT, however, a link for FNS or USDA after September, 2013.

However! If you look at the September link, it is identical to the October PDF.

The language is identical, the names are identical, and both PDF'S are discussing the Emergency Contingency Plan and the government shutdown.

The PDF found on google simply looks like the file was not updated to whitehouse.gov

Based on the PDF'S, and the letter that makes this reference, I am going to call legit.

ETA: based on the language in the PDF from whitehouse.gov, they have been warning about this since mid-September. This is just the first public notice if it. But, the wording is there since September.
