What Obama could do if he had the Courage

I will agree with one thing. Obama could force this to end. He could have forced this to end a couple years ago or, 2010, for that matter. He could have done what any and every President CAN do. It isn't much for options to choose from, but it's a dandy one. Obama just doesn't have the guts because the man would have to apply it equally and listen to his buddies call him a Jerk at 120 decibels from Capital Hill. (He has something of a thin skin, I've noticed)

What Obama could do and which has been done to various degrees of extreme before is to call Congress into session, force them to stay in session and if necessary.....let them pout like babies without their bottle. They'd STAY in session though, as I understand it. No going home or vacations or breaks. Till the end of time or this numbered congress ends by vote of the next election, whichever comes first.

He SHOULD have done that in December and forced the two sides to play their hardball to the max, within a framework PERSONALLY painful to them. They do 3-3 1/2 day work weeks and call it hard work. The losers...

Call them in full session by force until it's fixed and we'll get a REAL budget, not just a continuing resolution.
He does have that power.

heh, we are still waiting on the close of Guantanamo .....

I dont realistically expect anything since he couldnt do one of the primary things he set out to do.

Seeing how 45% of the promises Obama made during campaigning has been kept and passed he is doing better than average.

How is 45% above average? I would think at LEAST 50% would be needed to better than 'average' and from all of my schooling you needed at least a 70 or a C to be on par with 'average'.

Please explain to me how 45% is "better than average" I seriously cant wait to hear this

I'm not sure you understand what "average" means. If most other presidents only fulfilled 30% of their promises and this one fulfilled 45%, then he fulfilled more promises than the average president.

"Average" isn't a set score, it's contextual.

I was being a PITA to buster, but since you brought up contextual, that is something I can definitely agree on. So lets open up Obamas list of achievements and see where those kept promises stack up. By that I mean, lets gauge how important each and every promise was and the effect it had on the United States. For instance three promises that spring to mind for me are:

Closing GITMO (effects all americans if we can be detained without cause and no trial)
Being more Transparent (effects all americans as we have the right to know exactly what our representatives are up to)
Not going after 'unmentionable' users (about 85% of americans have used this substance at some point in their lives, even our own Commander in Chief)

Those are 3 failed promises that I felt were important to large sectors of folks (keep in mind these are off the top of my head with no googling)

So basically what I am asking is to rank his kept promises to those of other presidents. If he kept 45% of his easiest promises then thats not saying much. i can promise to tie my shoes everyday that I wear them and that would be easy to fulfill. Now if i said something along the lines of 'I promise to tie my shoes everyday, while standing on my head, using one hand only, and chugging a beer at the same time" would be alot harder to accomplish and fulfill.

In short I would rather have a president who promised three truly major positive events and only accomplished one, than a president who made a list of 10 relatively easy campaign promises and completed 9 of them.

So it comes down to just exactly how important those 45% of promises kept were and how much of an impact did they have on ALL citizens because that is who Obama governs. All of us, not just this group here, or that group over there.

See how I can i turn 45% into an irrelevant number. Its contextual

One other caveat, how do you distinguish and quantify campaign promises from his TWO campaigns. I dont recall that many from his second run, so essentially he has had (or will have) 8 years to fulfill the promises he made on his first run. Also in the same vein, how do you adjust for a President that only served one term and only had 4 years to fullfil his promises?

Also, while we present his promises kept, we must remember to cross analyze his broken promises as well to truly find a gauge of his success. Its a two way street and I want to know every single place he dropped the ball and the effect that had on Americans as well.

I was under the impression a president would get shot if they go against the'plan'? I dont see many of the people here willing to die to make a change?

That would be too easy to avoid even if the SS were part of the `plan`

I think the real control chip on the POTUS is what ever dirt he stepped in on the way to the White House. Remember the claims that Obama was spied on by the NSA years before he ran for Prez.

NSA SPIES ON OBAMA

Tice claimed that he held NSA wiretap orders targeting numerous members of the U.S. government, including one for a young senator from Illinois named Barack Obama. "In the summer of 2004, one of the papers that I held in my hand was to wiretap a bunch of numbers associated with a forty-some-year-old senator from Illinois. You wouldn't happen to know where that guy lives now would you? It's a big White House in Washington D.C. That's who the NSA went after. That's the President of the United States now." Read more: www.businessinsider.com...

Was the NSA worried that Obama was a terrorist? Or were they worried he would become president?

It doesn’t take a Freudian psychologist to see Obama doesn’t have it in his guts to be tough like a Truman, Kennedy (though here Obama may not want to be that tough, if you know what I mean) a Roosevelt or an Eisenhower.

It’s just not in his makeup. He may be a pure Manchurian candidate, sort of like Bush

Hay , thanks for the laugh, leave it to the socialist to imagine Obama as a visionary.

Fringe GOP wants to destroy the US in its present form. The POTUS wants to destroy the GOP in its present form.

Since I have a naive faith in humanity and specifically the humanity of the US citizens, I can only support the later.

Both parties work for the same banks.
What happens next is still being called by the IMF, the Federal Reserve and IMF
While either party has the option to reopen the government - Eric Cantor is the sole Republican with the ability to bring a vote on the budget to the House floor (due to a recent change in House rules) and Obama won't use the executive powers he's so extravagantly abused since elected.

This is a shakedown - just like Cypress. Whether it's Social security that takes the big hit or we take on IMF loans something is going to work against the best interests of the 99%. Of that much I can promise you..

What a gambit that would be! Knowingly sucker in the Chinese then declare it intentional crashing of the economy (insurrection). Screw over China, balance the budget and start WW3 in one fell swoop. Damn dude, you may have stumbled on something huge here.
Could that be the reason for all the executive orders allowing Der Prez to declare martial law? My head is spinning, I think I need to lay down. This is just too mind-boggling to contemplate.

Is this what the education system has sunk to? Some people not even understanding what the term "average" means?

I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing at the ideology of Tarpley and the idea he could even comprehend Obama as an visionary.

I looked up ellipses and your right, I have no idea, I use them as a time out to think what I need to say next.......make sense?

Perhaps true, since the present form of the U.S. is being run by ultra Left Wing factions.

What a joke - the "ultra left" in the US (at least according to teas baggers and their supports) doesn't even come close to the right wing in other "Western" countries.

you have such a warped and deluded view of left and right over there!

Wow. I think I am going to go stock up on Top Ramen just in case. It scares me that this President has just been like a big kid with an unlimited credit card that he doesn't have to pay on. It's ridiculous!!! I mean, can you imagine what our founding fathers would do or say if they were to come back right now and see the state of our country. They would be so disappointed in everyone, including American citizens for allowing this all to happen and just watch. These guys sank ships over a TEA TAX!!! Can you imagine if they came back and we are like, Oh ya..so 30% comes out of our checks, then we pay 8% on everything we buy after taxes, then we pay property taxes monthly, even if we don't have a lien on the property. Oh ya, and we pay to drive on roads, and fly, and umm..ya...everything? They would all kill themselves for not placing another Amendment that required "All people scared of their government must leave the country".
