Hello fellow members.

This happened in Portugal today, in Massama, Lisbon.

A kid threw a home made smoke granade in class and amidst the confusion stabbed 2 class mates.
The rest of the students when afronted with this, standded as a group and tried to stop the other kid, which then ranned away and stabbed a school staff aswell.

This kid has made mentions of doing a kill spree one day, metioning the ones in the United States as his inspiration.

The good news here, is that no one was baddly injured, just needing light medical care afterwards, and this kid was captured soon after by the police.

Now, what will be the punishment for such hatefull crime?
Here in Portugal, such crime will be handled with the commom 'slap in the hand' and will be forgotten.
This happens because people do not make any efforts to better the security, for example, if a bruglar is running away from the police and shoots at them and the police shoots back and hit him in a foot (for example), the burglar most of the times will hask for compensation and serves no jail time.

This type of crime is the time it happened is this country

This is Portugal AKA a crime heaven

Well that is shocking that he will most likely get a 'slap on the wrist.' Laws defiantly need to be made a little more harsh to stop people re offending pretty outrages to be honest.

Well, they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. I'd say our crime is doing fine without any flattery at all ...no need to copy and help export the insanity.

I hope he's a very isolated case of copy-cat across national borders.

Namasute,

We are all thinking this so I'll just say it aloud:

"What brand of SSRI/statin anti-depression drugs was this kid on that made him go bonkers?"

A better question would be:

"How many more have to die before we outlaw these things?"

First of all, I want to say thanks to the mod that took his time to translate my source. It was very helpfull.

Now to the reply

Here in Portugal, the justice system often sends home with weekly apresentations to the police station murderers, rapers, the lot in other words, and sentences to jail the homeless man that stole a bun to calm his hunger.

For example, if i recall correctly, last year, police caught 5 men linked to violent robery, drug trafficking and carjacking and the court just send them home with weekly apresentations for 6 months.

Thats hour country works, no one bats an eye.
But if a policeman shoots a rober, then everyone loses there minds...

And thank you for replying.

Thank you for your reply

In my country, banning a kid from bringing something to school would require a massive effort to superview all the things a kid carry, and the parents wouldnt like it at all, even if the safety of their children was at risk.

It is commom here for the kids to beat up a teacher or staff member, it only shows on the news if a teacher slaps a kid for beeing rude (this is the correct thing to do IMO).

This kind of problems come almost everytime from gipsy kids, because teachers and staff are very afraid of their parents, it is also commom for full grown gipsys to go to their kids schools and beat up the teachers for giving them a bad grade or detention and de police does nothing because they would be most likely greated with a shower of bullets

Thank you for your reply my friend.

I to do hope that this is just an isolated case from a demented child, and that others do not follow this sorry example.

There's nothing like America's mass school shootings serving as a role model for disturbed youth around the world. The focus on the murderers and days upon days of publicity after these mass killings only inspires sick minds to do the same thing just to receive the attention and fame they so much want.

Our media fans the flames, they go into over kill and report the same event over and over again for days on end. It does nothing to stop these mass killings, but feeds sick minds to plan the next mass killing. It must come as a game to them by thinking of better ways to kill more and out shock earlier events.

The media needs to stop focusing on viewer ratings and start evaluating how their long broadcasts and days of reporting are feeding this evil.

Thank very much you for replying.

You actually make a good point, but, unlike the USA, parents here don't usually give their kids drugs of any kind, there some that do, but it is not commom.

The only drug this kid probably take should actually be some hard drugs (just theorizing).
I have seen my share of kids around 12 years old smoking joints and stuff.
I've seen one group opening tea bags and making joints out of that, how dumb can they be lol.

But since this has just happened, maybe in the coming days we can know a bit more on this subject.

Thanks for replying,

Indeed it is true, tv today just focus on the sensationalist things, they don't care about the quality, they only care about ratings

That is an extremely simplistic view, it depends on the kid's age but yes minors can't be legally prosecuted as adults but there are rules to attempt a reformation, as it should after all we are talking about kids. IIRC the age limit is 16 and the limit is on criminal charges, civil charges have no age limitation...

That is untrue, Portugal by large is a very peaceful nation most of the crime hike in recent times is due to immigration from Eastern Europe and Brazil (Brazilian government refuses to share criminal history of immigrants seeking residence), the only local problematic minorities that have been slowly integrated are the Gypsies (due to their resistance to acculturation and traditional nomadic ways, even so the problem is lesser than in France or Spain), Most other crime is of opportunity or for survival one of the increasing problem is the "recent" changes regarding expulsion of immigrates from Canada and the US. Portugal also hasn't got any longer any ex-colonial baggage, like France or Spain most of those communities are now full integrated, even if a large part still belongs to the lower strata and due to social pressures have formed the normal ghettos (small and only on the larger urban centers that Portugal has few, as its a nation of ~10 million residents, a smaller population than New York).

This type of crime is the time it happened is this country

I think that was was intended was to say that it was the first time it happened. That is also inaccurate, even if at that level of violence and intention was never seen before. Portuguese citizens can't easily have access to firearms, even for hunting there are very strict protocols to acquire licenses.

But if a policeman shoots a rober, then everyone loses there minds...

Don't forget that many people still remember the time when the police could do whatever they wanted without any problem. Things changed after the Carnation Revolution, so people lost the fear of the police (thankfully) and do not allow that police actions go without punishment, if that's the case, and shooting someone is not something that should be done lightly.

PS: my elder sister was a teacher on that school two years ago, and she says that's a very good school, although it has some problems, like any other school.

Has the stabber's name been released yet?

Partially, he has been named as Gonçalo A.
As he is a minor his name will probably be left out of the public information.

Was he taking any medication?

I don't know, but he said to the judge (he was presented to a judge yesterday) that "this episode set in a 'time of severe depression and low self-esteem' and a crisis of values and 'dissatisfaction with the society surrounds him'."

What was he wearing at the time?

I don't know, but I haven't seen any reference to it.

Apparently, he had sheet of paper with some plans for trying to kill some 60 people, to break the record.

Edit: here is an Google translation of a Portuguese site about it.
