Thanks for posting that. I think people should see the difference in how the protest are being treated. And it should open a dialog for why is there a difference? It don't matter which side your on. The difference is plain to see. Why the difference? Could be it i s planned and orchestrated to advance the governments agenda covertly.

I would say probably the first and largest difference would be which one had politicians backing it. OWS did have a very large backing through professors, economists, analysts that were fed up with the corruption within their field and more. As far as politicians go, I can't really think of many or any that supported Occupy in any direct manner.

Contrast this with today's protest:

www.nbcnews.com...

Sarah Palin--Tea Party. In fact, I've never once heard of the heavily politically backed Tea Party ever once having a violent reception like Occupy did. Asking whether there is a political agenda (loathe to say governmental as there are disparate forces at work within it) is a very, very good question. As is asking whether the fundamental and extreme difference in reception was because of those political backers. An even better question.

It's a lot easier to beat a crowd with no political power than it is to beat a crowd with politicians behind it.

I looked at the pictures and watched the YouTube video, it looks like the "clash with police" involved 20 or so peaceful protesters with rather low energy walking right up to a small line of police officers holding nightsticks and then one got arrested, maybe, although it could have just been talk.

There was a metal fence knocked down here and there and some people in wheel chairs getting their photos taken next to closed monuments.

You must remember that Occupy started out very peaceable at first for quite awhile actually. Then agitators and infiltrators joined them. As a result since what little leadership that Occupy had was overwhelmed and we've all seen the results.

If these Vets were to do much the same over a period of time, I'm sure the eventual result would be much like Occupy, but probably even worse. It would be the start of a insurgent campaign.

I don't think it would happen though as many of these Vets have a job and family to worry about and must go home to. I think that many of them would also provide a beating to whoever tried to provoke a strenuous response from the police as well.

All in all, it looks fairly peaceful to me, though I'm sure we'll see some vids released tomorrow to stir up more emotion.

I saw that guy get detained. But he wasn't arrested. The Cops pretty much pushed him back into the crowd.

I could hear Foghorn Leghorn saying, "Go away kid, ya bother me!" LOL

As I was walking to Amtrak, I saw two buses stuck at the corner led by BIKER escorts. I asked the BIKERS, "What's wrong?" He answered, "They won't let them out." The bus was literally 500 feet from the Memorial and yet to cops would not let the 90 year old men out.

The VETS who were at the Vietnam Wall had grabbed the barricades and started carrying them to the White House. By this time the media had left.

When they got to the White House they stacked the barricades. It was wild. The police came in. They demanded we move away from the fence. But nobody was doing anything wrong? It was peaceful. However they used force. I was literally right there the entire time. Not 10 feet back, not 20 feet to the side.... RIGHT IN THERE. I had words with one cop who hit me. If FOX doesn't use the video, I will. It has profanity but I was protecting a little boy who was being trampled. LET ME SAY THIS LOUD AND CLEAR... The VETS and the protestors were not violent. They were honest, true, respectful to those around them and NEVER ONCE did anyone lift a hand. I swear on my life.

I'm not defending the cops actions. You also cannot cherry pick one incident either. When Scott was hit in the head, there had already been other acts of violence. Tensions were high already at this point in the Bay area.

Occupy was already past it's zenith and was going downhill fast when this happened.

What's going on in DC today seems to me as a one day event. I'm fairly sure that the morning sun will shine on a normal day tomorrow. If you can call any day normal in DC.

I am really afraid to see Americans fighting fellow Americans.

This is my greatest fear, I would not like to see any bloodshed here without a full on real trial for whatever crimes, and a very good reason for the punishment prescribed, Crimes against the peoples of the world, selling out your country to the highest bidder, Etc.
I hope the average citizen keeps this in mind in the coming days.
This is not Brother vs Brother, it is becoming the haves vs the have nots.
They have well paying fed jobs, they have campaign "contributions" they have federally funded recreations, we have shut downs...
I hope we have the clarity to see who the real enemy is, in my circle we seem to know.

So i know most are going to disagree with me on this

but.

I sympathize with the police when it comes to stuff like this, think about the the police have a job, a unpopular one, but a job that someone has to do and they chose to do it. Now imagine if you went to your work and found about 100 people surrounding you, some of them getting physically aggressive and the rest shouting insults at you as you try to do your job. It really must not be a very nice experience and I dont envy the police who contrary to popular belief dont want riots starting outside public buildings. They really just want to stand about, tell a few people to clam down and get paid a hell of a lot of overtime. Yet when they go to do their jobs they are met with a bunch of people who think "democratic demonstration" includes getting aggressive with the police.

Seriously how does a video like this actually further the cause of these demonstrators, it does not make them look "good", to me it makes them look like a bunch of folk out to cause some chaos and antagonize the officers.

Lastly, I dont think i would call this a "clash" more of a "tension"

if you want to see what a real "clash" between protestors and police look like go spend a week Athens.

It's high time the police started to decide exactly whose side they're on.

Because back after Nazi Germany, there was a special place on the firing squad reserved for those people who were 'just following orders'. And if they're not politically astute by now about just exactly WHAT the job requires being a police officer in a town that is bought and paid for by lobbyists and criminals, well then too F'ing bad. They're not 'guarding the monuments', they're guarding the bad guys.

This is one flash mob away from being Cairo and the Bastille put together.

" They really just want to stand about, tell a few people to clam down and get paid a hell of a lot of overtime."

Seriously????? Truly, somebody actually wrote that in all seriousness? Tell them to get jobs that don't require carrying weapons, wearing armor, and macing, teargassing, pummeling, tazing and murdering citizens then.

To the Protesters: May I recommend spray paint for all those nice face shields the police think THEY have a right to, but you don't?

Thanks for posting, I don't have regular cable only a roku and internet so I see only part of news stories.

What was behind this specific protest, do you know? I see from your post this was today, interesting indeed.

I worry about the 17th, if no deal is reached. it is not like it's going to be all of the people vs all of the government. I am really afraid to see Americans fighting fellow Americans.

Oh don't worry about that you wont ever need cable TV for the news anyway, they stopped showing real news years ago, internet is the best source for news nowadays as long as you keep away from mainstream unless you want to see what the current big lie and distraction is right now then yeh mainstream is a good place to go.

The cop in that video intentionally shot that at him.. There is a difference..

And if you say he didnt, then someone needs to goto a different place to learn how to use these weapons.

I think what I really like about this whole vet protest and rumors of vets being beaten, are the vets who accused another group of people of just being "angry hippies".
What a bittersweet victory.
I guess now some will see that everyone has valid complaints about the direction we are going.
Maybe the ones who called hippy will believe that we all should have rights now.

First they came for the hippies and I said nothing because I was not a hippy.
Then they came for the vets.....

Weird... why the White House?

There are no Republicans at the White House...

Oh... wait...

None of this makes sense. If they just reallocated the resources they used in having security personnel into keeping the memorial park open it would have avoided all the agonies. Besides, it is a "government shut down"...if anything, those policemen should be off duty and perhaps only called to scene if there was any real crime being committed.

In the end, the whole exercise only succeeded in dividing the people further. Hmmm...wait, was this their intention?

Secret Service protection is not affected as its considered essential by Congress.

The DC Police are in a weird category simply because the budget of Washington DC is actually controlled by Congress and not the city itself. Last I saw their congressional observer gave Obama an ear full about that issue when the government shut down.

Im sure there is something somewhere paying for the officers if it deals with security.

Were did I say that the cop was justified? And the one who tossed the flash-bang was also fired for his action that night. Personally I think that he should have gone to jail as well.

The police in DC are tyrannical bastards so its no surprise they are clashing with protesters. They'll clash with tourists taking pictures.

ok question,

my mate is a vet, served 10 years, 3 of those years he basically refuses to talk about, he finished with numerous commendations and bravery award's with qualifications and all the rest of it

He is now a Cop,

so how does he fit in to your simplistic view of honor, bravery and what makes a man?

I mean is a cop not brave when he takes down a drug dealer, when he puts himself between a gun and child and all the rest of it.

people are very anti-police, right up until the moment they are crying out for them.

Homeland Security needs to be taken out of law enforcement. Janet is gone lets hope DHS follows.

Why do we need to send cops to Israel to train? So they can learn to use white phosphorous or shot rock throwers?

www.timesofisrael.com...

How about ordering tanks for Occupy protester?
