Looks like a rocket but did it explode? At the end it just vanished.

Think I agree with you there Jim .. Wasn't it you who posted yesterday regarding Russian testing ICBMs?

Not like any explosion I've ever seen and not like ANY rocket I've ever seen. It's trail is not smoke as it does not dissipate and spread out.

What it does look a LOT like, is the footage of the Norway Spiral. Note, as it seems to "vanish", the ejection from the left side takes on a slightly spiraled form.

The visual similarities are uncanny. Good find OP

Have you seen many ICBM launches?

What it does look a LOT like, is the footage of the Norway Spiral.

Yes, yes it does.

Do you think it interesting that the OP predicted this?

Maybe more similar to this.

and here's the Norway Spiral for those who have not seen it.

Maybe more similar to this.

Maybe so. But they are all rockets.

Do you find it interesting that the OP predicted the appearance of these recent videos?

BTW, that "Norway" video is fake. It's a simulation of the event. Here is the original posting

I see you changed the video to a real one. Good idea.

I ssuspected the launch might have been seen, and by using heavens-above to generate local sunset times down track, I figured Omsk would have the most cameras ready -- but other views apparently also are coming in from Kazakhstan. I posted it on the 'space' forum because the rocket announcement was the initiator.

When a website in Russia called it a 'UFO', I posted that here but revealed my own view immediately -- 'looks like a rocket'. Doing the actual time checks isn't trivial with all of Russia's time zones. I had other activities the rest of the afternoon -- but had neither intent nor result to mislead.

Still, having the rocket winding up looking like I predicted feels kind of cool. With uncertainties of cloud cover and different missile flight profiles, it's still a stab in the dark. These Kapustin Yar to Sary Shagan tests seem to involve unusual trajectories, high enough -- as in July 2012 -- to be seen from as far away as Israel, Jordan, and Syria. Usually the Topol is test flown from Plesetsk north of Moscow all the way to Kamchatka [yes, as in 'Risk']. These short-range tests are different.

I figure that our CIA/DIA spooks figured out way back in the 1960s what most Soviet UFO reports were really describing, and they eagerly collected Soviet press accounts and UFO club mimeographed newsletters of such sightings [many from Feliks Zigel], but NOT because they reflected 'true UFOs' -- just the opposite, maybe.

By early 1968 the Soviet military news censors must also have finally caught on -- and they immediately slammed a blackout down on Soviet press coverage of domestic UFO reports. They told Zigel to shut up.

Of course, for American 'ufologists', this was further proof that UFOs were 'real'. Actually, it was an indication that in most of the cases, the opposite was true, the CIA/DIA knew it, and the Soviet government had finally realized what it was the published reports were actually describing in great operational performance detail.

Delicious irony. But also, VER-R-RY satisfying 'space sleuthing' to make those connections in public. Even the MUFON UFO Journal published my seminal 1983 paper explaining the 'crescent UFO wave' of 1967-8 as space-to-ground nuclear warhead tests [dummy warheads, that time].

There are at least five different ways that missile and space events can generate spiral-form clouds, and only one involves a failure mode. These spirals have subtle differences that often can provide clues about the actual cause -- but not always. There are some weird ones seen and hand-drawn from China in the 1980s that remain utterly fascinating.

I listed the different ways on a different thread a few weeks ago -- let me go look for it, but I can't do it now, company coming for the weekend.

It is my contention that missile/space-event-generated ground observations can provide uniquely valuable 'control experiments' to calibrate the degree of eyewitness misperception that such once-in-a-lifetime apparitions engender. Without such exploitation of these serendipitous opportunities, we wind up endlessly arguing over witness capabilities based on 'a priori' factors whose significance we can only guess at. With real observations of documented stimuli, we can MEASURE the results.

It is an interesting prediction
He said to expect people to post videos about the rocket and say that it's a UFO.

Very cool video. I highly doubt that aliens use solid rocket fueled engines to navigate both here and throughout the universe though.

It looks like a rocket to me but thanks for the video anyway. I enjoy watching videos of fast planes and rockets. The way it exploded is a little mysterious but doesn't look too far out of the ordinary or unexplainable for me to believe it is anything other than a rocket. I wonder if it was a failed test, intentional abort or testing of some kind of anti-missile device.
