That's right, the Healthcare.gov website was originally quoted to cost us $93M.
SO FAR, it is costing taxpayers $634,320,919.00...and the damned thing STILL doesn't work.

IMO, none of us should be surprised at this. This gross cost overrun not only personifies Obamacare, itself, but simply reflects the central premise that Obama blatantly lied to the American people when he promised that Obamacare would not only save taxpayers money...but that they would love it!

This thing was poorly conceived, recklessly rushed to market, and dishonestly foisted upon the American public in an extremely partisan manner.

Remember, www.Healthcare.gov...$634,320,919.00...and counting!

We paid $634 million for the Obamacare sites and all we got was this lousy 404

We, the taxpayers, seem to have forked up more than $634 million of the federal purse to build the digital equivalent of a rock.

The exact cost to build Healthcare.gov, according to U.S. government records, appears to have been $634,320,919, which we paid to a company you probably never heard of: CGI Federal. The company originally won the contract back in 2011, but at that time, the cost was expected to run “up to” $93.7 million – still a chunk of change, but nothing near where it ended up.

Government has a long history of spending money unnecessarily. But in an age when the U.S is home to the world’s largest, most successful Internet companies, how is it possible that we can’t even manage to build a functional website without blowing through hundreds of millions of dollars?

Wow just looking through the site its very simple, a web designer would probably charge about $400 to make that in a few days... god only knows why its cost more money to make the site than James Cameron's Avatar, I've never heard of any site site costing 3/4 of a billion to make and only 7k people like it on facebook too... lol

The company which received this lucrative deal is called CGI Federal.
I wonder if this company has ties with the administration.
I think a little research is in order.

CGI Federal to Develop Health Insurance Marketplace Under Affordable Care Act

CGI Federal has won a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services contract worth up to $93.7 million to build a health insurance exchange that is federally-facilitated, the company announced today.

The contract to build Federal Exchange was awarded by CMS’ Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight. It has a two-year base value of $55.7 million with three one-year options.
CGI said the exchange is required underneath a provision in the Affordable Care Act which mandates a new competitive health insurance marketplace for states and territories.

The company said it will work with the CCIIO on the exchange, which is intended to extend insurance coverage to an additional 34 million Americans. It will help more citizens “shop and obtain” healthcare, said Cheryl Campbell, senior vice president of CGI.

CGI Federal is a subsidiary of Montreal-based CGI Group. With offices in Fairfax, Va., the subsidiary has been a darling of the Obama administration, which since 2009 has bestowed it with $1.4 billion in federal contracts, according to USAspending.gov.

Yeah, Imagine what they spent on that GUI...

I see you mentioned Joomla in your signature.

That would be an excellent cost effective back end to the site!

Joomla security holes have some of the fastest discovery rates due to it being as open as it is!

If you have ever worked in IT for a large corporation you will recognize this a typical management decision.

It doesn't make much sense but this is how it often works.

The failure of the website to operate as intended could wind up being catastrophic for the entire plan. If the site continues to prove difficult for people to use, the only people who will be willing to contend with the slow loads, the downtime and the numerous glitches will be those that absolutely need the insurance. Folks who are healthy or can wait for the system to operate properly will not sign up right away leaving insurers with insured people who are making more claims than the healthy people. The healthy insured pay their premiums and receive less benefit so the profits from the healthy wind up supplementing the costs for the less healthy.

without the healthy insured, the insurance providers might find themselves in a bind where the only means of saving themselves will be to jack up the premiums yet again.

If the purpose of the ACA is to lead people to insurance companies, it seems wasteful. Why didn't the gov just change how companies do business instead of inserting a new level of red tape that should not be necessary.

Because this way, they get control of 1/6th of the U.S. economy.

CGI named Company of the Year for Government Cloud Solutions by Frost & Sullivan

Board of directors I suggest you read who these people are. They seem to be A Canadian company with a few EU links. During the National Animal Identification fight it was found the data base of Premises ID was based in Canada and therefore was NOT SUBJECT TO FOIA when Mary Zanoni a lawyer went after the USDA.

That piece of information tells you why the US government is using a Canadian company AGAIN to store data on its citizens.

What if the whole idea is for the plan to fail so government can take over and toss the insurance companies under the bus. Given the wealth of the insurance industry and therefore the campaign contributions to politicians, I seriously doubt this but it should be looked at.

From the CGI Federal Annual Report 2012 PDF:

Through a consistent, disciplined and accountable delivery approach, CGI has achieved an industry-leading track record of on-time, on-budget projects, helping clients leverage current investments while adopting new technology.

Maybe the cost is more in line with this:

We strive to deliver strong, consistent financial performance, which sustains long-term growth and rewards our members and shareholders.

Care to be Obama knows some of them folks?
This cost overrun would make the Pentagon wince.
Profit is one thing, profligate in another entirely
Seems those words are interchangeable now.
