Would you mind linking the source saying the vets in NYC were granted their permit? I HAVE done the research, and other than the Atlantic Wire article I linked, some blogs which basically reprint the story from there, there is no mention of the permit at all. And the same thing happened to the vets last year for "breaking curfew." In the city that never sleeps.
And as I stated before, the people who were arrested were arrested for blocking a road, not holding a protest. And they were given permission, by the President according to Nancy Pelosi, to be on the grounds that normal American citizens are currently restricted from.
When you refer to the previous instance of the veterans being turned away from the memorial, and the politicians showing up, they WERE threatened with arrest for the first 3 days, simply for being there. There was no protest on their part, they were simply visiting a memorial ERECTED IN THEIR HONOR FOR THEIR SACRIFICE. The only reason they were granted access after those 3 days was the simple fact that even Obama knew the backlash from letting this immigration protest happen while denying the veterans access, which had gone VERY public at this point, would have been too much even for him to spin off.

Now a personal insult. Perhaps you might want to learn how to debate and discuss properly before hanging out here.... Three strikes and yer out, have a nice day.

I am sorry, but how exactly do we allow people willing to break the law, make the law? Even a single celled organism would say that is insane, if it could talk. Many of us would lose our jobs for being arrested and convicted, but it is fine, even celebrated, when those who make the law do it. What are we really headed for here?

Well, we will see just what kind of politicians we have in Boehner and the Tea Party Republicans.

Yes these eight engaged in a stunt. And, yes, they can probably use Congressional Immunity for the local law enforcement side of things. But what they cannot deny is that they broke the law and are now subject to both the House and the Senate to decide what to do about it. This of course can range from nothing, verbal reprimand, censor for a time period, censor for the balance of their term or their removal from office.

What they have done is give a little leverage bargaining chip to be held over Obama and Reid. They can now do a backroom deal for oh, say removing the individual mandate for one year in exchange for not booting these individuals out of office. After all, "how can we expect the people to respect the ACA law when out own politicians can not respect the law themselves? How can we punish those without insurance, while supporting those that openly break the immigration laws in place and in the process just happen to break the law?"

Congrats to the gang of eight that just might have bent Obama over.

Now this is what you calling going all out to get a vote. The Democrats are being smart (for once) about this, shore up some solidarity with the new voters. While the Republicans can't keep their foot out of their mouth for ten minutes. And this whole shut down mess is making the Republicans (Especially the Orange Man) look even more insane than usual. Perception matters in politics and the Republicans are doing a bang up job right now of looking like complete nutcases. They may have a decent argument about the budget too, but shutting the government over what is a disagreement about ACA? It's just bad strategy. So...are we going to bet about how long Boehner is going to stay as Speaker? I got 25 bucks that he is out one month after the shut down is ended. Cantor is going to replace him.

Police would not identify those arrested.

Um, arrest records are PUBLIC records (even before conviction), so I'd to know how the hell the police can get off with not providing information in the PUBLIC RECORD.

That said, Wrabbit brought up an interesting point to, about being "exempt" from arrest while in session, etc. But for the fact that they were arrested anyway, shows the federal government not doesn't give a good GD about LAW, it also doesn't care about the lawmakers. Therefore, this makes the government even more rogue that I had ever thought.

While the arrest is still a partisan affair, the fact they were arrested for (hopefully) honest beliefs (and not just a partisan show), is admirable.

exactly. Spain did the same thing when the socialist party was in power.......they also had a black hole in their budget for social security from deep corruption. The new legal illegals filled the gap and justified a then amplified budget for greater social whoring of public funds for votes.......

We will see the same. Let it happen.

You know what spain is like now? People want to lynch the socialists and the free loading illegals all went home in larger waves of reverse immigration once the well was dry. Apparently they didn't love the country enough to stay and fix a damned thing.

Sometimes the best thing that can happen is the worst. Embrace their malfeasance ....then when they are puking their own bile they will ask for the alternative to mental diarrhea causing ideas.

If we are doctors and the USA is a sick patient who wants to binge on cigarettes booze and drugs.....let him have a near death experience ....crawl out of a pool of his own filth and then see if he is willing to try it your way.

Look at it this way, protests and demonstrations are becoming criminalized against the first amendment, which guarantees the right to assembly.

We have that trucker rally coming up in 3 days. With this precedent, that could turn out the same for the Republicans.

Exactly. And it doesn't make no mention of protesting in designated areas, and only when the government says it's OK to do so.....

8 House democrats arrested and will be charged!

So we have 8 current members of Congress getting arrested (probably misdemeanors) ?

At a protest about an immigration law that won't be enforced just like the others.

And these are people who make laws ?

I'm real happy and secure about THAT.

Nothing like setting good examples and being good role models eh ?

Let's keep the Democrats a minority.

We saw what happened when they ran Congress from 2007 thru 2010.

Ah, but here is the crux of the matter. They did not have a permit, ultimately caused a public nuisance and hampered public safety.

While protesting is acceptable, though if you look at the laws, it has to be done as not to be unsafe or hamper safety at all. in short they were breaking the law, and from what I can tell should be punished accordingly to the law. For if they are not, then how is it any different than say a group showing up anywhere and staging a protest that is similar and ultimately being a public nuisance?

The legal precedence is set and should be followed, or the laws changed to reflect equality for all. Not changed for the benefit of the few.

You know your nation is in trouble when your own lawmakers are breaking the law.

Why not arrest all of them, for treason?

Too bad they didn't get pepper sprayed and clubbed on the noggin.
Might knock some sense into them.
Notice those arrested all come from states heavily infested with illegals.
Nothing like voting more votes for yourself at the citizen's expense.

I hope you are being sarcastic. If not, then what you said is pretty callous of you. Just using the term "infested" to somehow infer that illegals are vermin or a disease. These people have fled dire social or economic circumstances to find a better way of life. Yes, they are here illegally but one must remember they are someone's father, mother, sister, brother..and so on. They are human.
Those who were arrested are utilizing their constitutional rights.

So only humans are exempt from being vermin? If the shoe fits...wear it. A rat enters my home against my will and without my permission. I don't want it there and it isn't allowed to be there. Then it digs a hole in my wall and gets into my cabinets and eats my food. Then it reproduces and there are more eating my food. I want these vermin gond. At least I can hire an exterminator for the rat. The people we hire to keep humans out who don't belong here, aren't wanted here and eat our food are ignored by the people we pay to keep them out. And who decides to tell them to do nothing? The same dems that were arrested.

Welcome to America!
