It seems possible that we are being visited by Greys and Reptillians and other races. With the apparent lack of consistent hard and blatant proff, it seems like only a few people are truly in the know about this.
For all we know, the planet of the greys could be full of people talking about the strange humanoids they have seen being tortured, eaten or entertained in their military complexes. They, in general, may be as ignorant about what theit powers that be are truly doing.

If aliens on earth is true, one of the reasons our governments cover it up is because there could be a planet somewhere where there are rumours of the horific abductions by the greys, reptillians and the monkey-men.

Interesting thoughts. However we cannot always judge another society by our own norms and experience. In anthropology the term ethnocentrism defined below by Oxford has led to less lenient, and less judgemental observations.

If aliens are out there they probably wouldn't even refer to themselves as Greys or Reptilians. Perhaps they don't even have names like "Todd" or "Jessica" but instead utilize an unprecedented self-categorization technique or no differentiation what so ever!

I'm pretty sure every other Dictionary has the same definition of ethnocentrism.

If there are really Reptilian beings here, I would say the humanoids are inhabitants of specific places underground - only a very thorough exploration of all underground caves may reveal something. And these are the other intelligent life that evolved into something more than just animals. Meaning, they are not aliens, they are native... Yeah I've heard of Alpha Draconians and from Sirius or Orion but who is from where is like a big mish-mash and hogwash.

Interestingly enough I've had a dream, quite real about some aliens and greys but I was at home (in that dream) and I was giving them some artifact that they insisted that I give them back. But the dream was not in spaceship, so just a dream, not abduction..

Two ATS members are having a differnce of opinion.
One is using logic.
The other personal bias.

The test: which one is using logic
Which one personal bias (insert old school ATS laughing face here)

"ethnocentric"??? perhaps.

However, it is also an illustration of the application of Hermetic Principal; an important first step to understanding.

It's interesting you say this as i was just reading a story about how Ft Leonard Wood in Missouri is harboring an elite squad of Sasquatch Shock Troops genetically modified by the Reptilians.
Phantoms and Monsters

According to our source, within the secret organization allegedly at Fort Leonard Wood and corroborated with many eye witness accounts, the military had started a secret program in 1983 at Fort Leonard Wood when locals found a crashed UFO on the boarder of the Mark Twain National Forest and the military reservation. Shortly after the crash was found, many sightings of Sasquatch like creatures were seen throughout Pulaski county. The latest sightings of UFOs and Sasquatch like creatures happened December 24, 2009 near the Gasconade River, just off Highway 133. Our source said that the UFO studied at Fort Leonard Wood was actually a control module and incubation chamber created by advanced reptoid aliens. The module/incubation chamber held the DNA of the reptiod aliens genetically altered ape-like shock troops used to destroy humanity. Some of the creatures escaped and started to breed in the wild. Without an active control module to condition them for combat, the creatures reverted to a natural state. Many sightings of these creatures have been seen throughout the county. Our source has also stated that the U.S. Army has created a new module, and with the remaining DNA found in the original craft, have created their own version of those Sasquatch type shock troops. Our source also stated that they will be tested in Afghanistan sometime in 2010.

If you're a one-man observer then your only point of reference is your own culture/background. Ethnocentrism can be acceptable in the right context. However, if we do discover an alien home world we could learn more through observation vs. making connections based on our way of life.

Correlation does not = causation.

Monkey men? Are we talking Saiyans? Because that might be interesting.

Seriously though why does everyone assume that aliens who contact us are monsterous? What would they get out of torturing us?

Apart from intel related to biology and chemistry, possibly pleasure. This, of course, is speculation.

I imagine they would be somewhat like us humans. Some would torture but i'm sure there would be many who wouldn't.

I just think it's silly to say "an alien is an alien so therefore they are horrible monsters who like to torture us". Not saying you said that but that seems to be the common consensus. I think there would be more to them than that.

We keep asking ourselves why won't they visit? Or at least make their visits known? I'm sure the answer to that is that they know how the majority of us feel. And that is either too scared of the unknown or our violent behavior that and the fact that we humans have seem to take a liking to torturing others. Maybe they think we are the monsters?

I think you are ignoring our own history with this assumption. It wasn't uncommon at all for an invading group to subjugate and enslave an existing group. The notion that aliens would be scared of us is the stuff of hollywood fiction and comic book dreams. If they wanted to make us their bitch, they could do so.

I completely agree. Some say they left Earth a long time ago, some say they look like us, some say there are good and bad ones - as you said they would have a spectrum of their own when it comes to behaviour.

Now, I know many would ask themselves "why would they want to hurt us?". Think of it this way, when you were a child and came across an antpile or an insect did you squish it? Some kids nowadays probably eat bugs
Point is, some aliens - if they do exist and share some similarity to our species, will mature at a different rate than others.

Ultimately, we should not overthink this. If we try to judge them or understand them through our experience (ethnocentrism) we risk missing out on their potential culture.

Ultimately, ethnocentrism > less lenient, more* judgemental conclusions vs observing said aliens and judging them based on their own observed behaviour.
