The King of the Netherlands has informed his country that their welfare state is finished.

King Willem-Alexander, alongside his wife, Queen Maxima, told the Dutch people that they must create their own social and financial safety nets, and that looking to the state for help was a thing of the 20th century.

The speech was part of the monarch’s annual address on the day the government presents its budget. It was not immediately clear if the 100 million euros spent by the government on maintaining the Royal House, with its castles and parades, would be included in the austerity cuts. Recent polls show confidence in the government at a record low and that most Dutch people believe the cabinet’s austerity policies are at least partially to blame.

The Dutch economy is expected to have shrunk by more than one percent in 2013, and is worsening while recoveries are underway in Britain, Germany and France.

I wonder if this has anything to due with the influx of immigrants that rely heavily on welfare. I read a report recently that one set of immigrants into Europe 80% were receiving welfare.

Honestly I dont think the main problem is that they are receiving the benefits, its that they tend to say you have to change your values and lifestyle to accommodate us or we will kill you. all the while taking the welfare benefits.

First of all, why is there a "king" and "queen"?

So these freeloading bums live off the taxpayer but the tax payer gets no safety net... right.

I'm no fan of big government or the welfare state (domestic or foreign), it doesnt work over time, but who are these two hypocrites to say anything?

Immediately strip them of their possessions and kick them out of their "palace". Escort them to Walmart, point them in the direction of the clothing aisle and give them each a swift kick in the pants.

Can you clarify the situation?
Does the king write his own speeches, or is this the king acting as spokesman for the government (which is what happens when the British Queen opens Parliament)?

That's exactly what it is. In Norway (where I'm currently located), there were discussions about ending disability pensions due to the influx of immigrants who are "helped" by doctors from the same countries they're from so they'd get disability even though they were fully able to work.

Here's a story about a woman nearing her 50's that I know.

Back in 2004, she met a man from Egypt. During their time together, Selim (his name) wanted to get disability seeing his girlfriend (my landlord) had it. She has some kind of arthritis that people usually get when they're much older, it's a degenerative problem and she's had a hip replaced and sincerely cannot work. Her hands, ankles and other parts often swell up leaving her unable to do much.

Selim was working full time, he quit his job and got an undocumented job at a local fast food store. (This store often employs illegals and others under the table and is run by non-western immigrants.) After six months of working and living on social welfare doubling up his monthly "salary", he found a doctor from Cairo. She (the doctor) helped Selim get disability due to "mental issues". He pulls in around 12000 Norwegian kroner monthly through disability and another 8000 kroner through undocumented work, which he continues to do.

Shortly after he received disability, he broke up with his girlfriend. He can now move anywhere he'd like in the world and continue to receive the 12000 kroner from the Norwegian government. That's why disability is a very sought after pension by immigrants. They can come to Norway from a poor country, get disability and than move back to their country of origin and "live like kings".

His now ex girlfriend has tried several times to get him busted by reporting him to skatte etaten (not sure what it's called in English, I believe it's the Norwegian version of the IRS) but they say they do not have the resources to check up on the claim.

So instead of removing the possibility for immigrants to get disability, they'd rather take it all away, even from people who CANNOT.WORK. Some Norwegians call people like Selim "lykke jegere" (happiness hunters) due to the fact that they come to Norway, throw their passports away and become undocumented immigrants so Norway can't throw them out. Once they're here for good, they than get social welfare and eventually try to get disability.

You'd be surprised by how many immigrants come to Norway who refuse to learn the language (I met a guy here early on during Norwegian classes who couldn't speak a lick of Norwegian despite living in Norway for SEVEN years!) and thus cannot work forcing the Norwegian government to give them social welfare.

Depending on community, social welfare pays out roughly 4500 kroners monthly. More if you have a spouse and children. Electricity and apartments are also paid for by the government. Even women who are not Norwegian citizens get a payout when they give birth. This is over 20000 kroner per child.

So is it a wonder places like Denmark, Sweden and Norway become such high profile targets for these "happiness hunters"? Of course not, what IS surprising though is that the Norwegian government allows it. Some more information pertinent to the discussion is how many immigrants severely misuse welfare even though THEY.OWN.BUSINESSES. I also knew Selim for a while, he was open about how all this was done and suggested I too partake.

What happens is that the owners of these businesses stay on welfare, but get cousins and other family members to come to Norway and become undocumented immigrants. Once they're settled and get work visa, they'll put their cousin (or whoever) as an owner of the company. The guy doesn't have to do anything, except get paid for being a name on a paper. They'll do this as long as their money lasts. There were a couple of these stores in Oslo a couple of years ago that were exposed.

It's insanity if you ask me and a prime example of these countries digging their own financial graves.

I can't say for sure but I do know that he's got his own personal speech writer.

I found this link (in dutch) .. www.nrc.nl...

OK. I just wondered, because when the Queen opens Parliament and says "My government will do such-and-such", everybody knows that the Prime Minister has written the speech.
I was wondering if this was a similar situation.

Make no mistake, this world is still ruled by kings and queens. Just because you don't see or hear much about them doesn't mean they re not meddling with our fates. There are 44 countries that currently have monarchs. There are other countries like the one I'm from, Canada, that are colonies of England. Basically, the Queen of England owns these countries.

Think royal blood lines from the ancient past. These freaks will never give up control of the planet. Not willingly anyway..

What puzzles me is why the royals are still top dog? They come out with statements like this and we all put up with it. Who the hell are they anyway, just people born with a title that they gave themselves???
They are inbred, kill animals and birds for pleasure and rule over us? Hmmmm .... something wrong somewhere .... yet we still let them do it and help them celebrate their birthdays ... and ... watch the queen talk a load of tosh about what a wonderful year it has been for everyone.
Yes and I bet this year the austerity cuts in this country won't get a mention. If they do, it will be how wonderful charity is and xmas is for giving. Go on queeny rub it in!!!

Taxes are a 'social contract' between the people who pay tax, usually everyone as nearly everything is taxed so whether earning money or not everyone pays tax and the government 'gives' back in services.
The social contract allows for something back for what is paid in.
To be still paying the same and yet not have the same back is a broken social contract.

The problem with a welfare state is it attracts parasites as well as the genuinely sick, unemployed etc. Of course people will come from other countries and take what they can. Allowing this great influx in the form of immigration in the first place is just a very clever way to get people to demand that the benefit safety net is removed altogether instead of realising they are being played. Anyone who complains is beaten with a vicious 'big stick' by being called a 'racist'.

To continue to demand taxes from the people while taking away or limiting the government's part in the social contract can only eventually cause great discord and ordinary people may be tempted to avoid paying any form of tax and create their own 'system' of exchange that cannot be taxed. But that will only happen once the game is over and the people so poor that just to eat another day will be a great prize.

The super rich and elites though paying tax, proportionately pay far less while usually still receiving almost the same benefits if not more. The ordinary people cannot claim 'expenses' as the elites do and their expenses are a 'benefit' way beyond the wildest dreams of ordinary people.

But, what is interesting is people's reaction to the slow but deliberate degrading of a first world western society to a society that will, probably in the next ten years time be a third world society if not even worse. There is very little reaction or awareness.

Too much fluoride in the water?

Too distracted by TV and computer games?

Why face the grim reality of what the rich and the governments have in store for the west when you can just mentally 'switch off' and go into you pretend world of computer games?

By the time the people cannot even afford the electricity for their computer games and wake up to the true reality of their degradation and the theft of all their assets and what they once had.....it will be too late.

Tick, tock. Tick tock. Maybe it already is too late?

Marie Antoinette is alleged to have said that round about the time of The French Revolution before she had her head chopped off in 1792, though there is no actual evidence to support this.
