If she wanted to embrace her sexuality, she should do it in her own time.

What happened to talent, pure and simple, being used to make you money?

In the M/E it is a taboo if a woman doesn't cover her body and face. Doing so is "obscene".

Compare those values to those 30 years ago...50 years ago... TODAY...and in 10 or 20 years.
There IS no such thing.

It's illusions and "agreed upon" ideas which are laughed upon 10 years later. What was "decent" 40 years ago is now laughable. The outrage today is something to laugh at once society progresses.

If you realize that all the taboos and values like "decency" or what is "morale" has really no substance and is ALWAYS in the eye of the beholder and highly subjective, you will realize the IRRELEVANCY to get outraged by something as irrelevant and non-exciting as a singer dancing semi-nude in a music video.

Not only that, it goes way, way farther than what meets the eye...the "cultural taboos" are not only applying to what appears to you as "non decent behavior"...entire societies are based on cultural taboos and SOCIALLY ADAPTED BELIEFS.

In some cultures, a woman (or a man) is pushed in a "role" from their birth, not because it is "rational" or makes any sense...and things which are "normal" in one society are unthinkable in another. Think about those cultures where a woman has no rights whatsoever and is expected to be obedient for her entire life with the utmost goal to marry someone as early as possible which concludes her life.

BREAKING OUT of those silly cultural taboos and beliefs is a good thing. Conforming to them always means to limit yourself. And there is no reason to do so. I am not saying that what M. did was an act of creativity or whatnot...but it's just an example of roles "assigned" to someone and how people freak if someone dares to step over those boundaries

Yes, Britney and Miley are BOTH being exploited. NEITHER OF THEM are really "free" or "empowered" by this exploitation.

As for fem-power, I have NEVER been ashamed of my body (I'll be turning 55 in two months), but I have also NEVER displayed it nude in public.

I think what Miley did was pathetic. I also entirely protest early child-hood "beauty pageants."

If Miley had ANY sense of real self-worth and self-esteem, she would not have done this. It is, in my opinion, "resorting to the lowest common denominator" for her to have engaged in this obscene gesture.

NUDITY is NOT real "power". It is NUDITY, and expressed publicly ONLY to entice men and to "sensationalize" herself. There's no reason for it; and I predict that she will be just as much a mess in a couple more years as Britney was.

SHE IS STILL A KID. Her parents - and her puppeteers/handlers, should be ashamed, but then again Billy Ray Cyrus was never a primo example of "class" either.

You're wrong. Males who naturally do what you describe above have the most success with girls because girls don't like to be put on a pedestal and being put down here and there builds attraction due to the fact that women enjoy the challenge of 'getting the guy'.

In my experience, if a woman knows she can have you whenever she wants you then she just gets bored. Sorry but I'm just going by observations. Nice guys nearly always finish last for a reason...

The best way to snag a woman is to NOT be Mr. Nice. Be very busy all the time, don't return her calls. Insult her without it sounding an insult:

"I think your chest is fine, I mean who wants those big, voluptuous women? That's so unrealistic. I like a girl like you, you're like the girl next door".

The more disinterested you seem, the more they will want you. Another line I've heard is, "By the way, we're not going to sleep together". This makes the woman think there must be something wrong with her, and chances are she'll bend over backwards to try to get you to sleep with her.

She wasn't displaying 'total control' over her body. In fact ... she was totally out of control.
She's got mental health issues. I'm not saying that because I"m some kind of prude.
(Example - I favor legalization, regulation and taxation of prostitution).
I"m saying that because she has issues she's dealing with .. and not dealing with them well.

She is in a self destructive mode ... not an empowerment mode.

Doing something that shocks and embarrasses people is not something that's powerful and good. It wasn't artistic or a social statement - it was just something done for the shock value of seeing someone who people still think of a little girl do something sexual.

If someone really wanted to make a pro-female statement, they should go to the award show a little on the plump side, without makeup and without a current boyfriend.

I am forever connected emotionally with my son, I am male, females do not exclusively hold emotional connection with off-spring due to childbirth.

I have a twin sister, I have always questioned and challenged the restrictions/differences placed on her due to being born a female compared to my life as a male.

Yes, women have inherent power. There is no reason to parade around nude to embrace that power.

You used her as an example of "empowered" women. Not only is she still a youth (NOT an adult), she is also from a show-biz family. How exactly are you trying to 'separate' the two? (That is, the empowerment of women vis a vis nudity as an example of such)

Look even the girls song was basically the catch phrase from the Jerry Springer show "i'll do what I want" It's really a poor example of "female empowerment"

For starters lust is a lot less powerful than love and no matter what America does to it's population, no matter how much propaganda chemical methodology for population control and any philosophies introduced and how much copious porn allowed.... The majority of people will always want a normal hetero relationship in the long run.

What i'm saying is, even with a huge push to change biology both physical and philosophical in play you can get people to "do things" but not really change their inner selves, in other words... sure 90% of guys would "sleep" with Miley but no one WANTS her, there was nothing empowering about it.

As a female, I don't find flaunting the ownership of your genitalia as particularly "empowering". What that is, in my book, is manipulation. Both sexes are masters of using the crotch to control. End of story.

Sheesh, ladies. I have boobies & a vagina, too. Big deal. Show me a woman with extensive knowledge of a subject, or many subjects, and the will to use the knowledge to improve society (and not merely in feminism) and then I may call her empowered. Until then, the ones, both male & female, who sell out to the highest bidder for income, they're just selling themselves. That doesn't mean much in the long run appealing to primal desires, that's just innate in us all.
