INDONESIA says the final of Miss World later this month will take place on the Hindu-majority holiday island of Bali instead of near the capital, after days of Muslim hardline protests.

Thousands took to the streets this week to denounce the decision to hold the beauty pageant in the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation, with protesters burning the organisers in effigy and branding them "infidels".

LINK

This virulent cerebral malady euphemistically dubbed 'Islam' is yet again demonstrating its intolerances and propensity for violence, this time with respect to the Miss World contest. Seems the bikini category alone was enough to stoke the fires of Allah's blood-hungry ire resulting in the forced relocation of the competition.

Quite worrying, to think there are such hardline moslem undercurrents in the world's most populous Islamic theocracy; especially given it's the "Asian century" and all the jazz.

For further reference to the one of Asia's rising powers, I entreat you to seek out (*it's available online) and watch the documentary The Act of Killing - one of the finest documentaries made and almost certain to feature prominently at the next Oscars ceremony.

I make no apologies for any religions but cmon!?!
It should not even have been considered to be held in a Muslim country, walking around displaying your goodies is against Islam which Im sure the organisers knew already.
You think Israelis would be happy if we organised and promoted a Bacon eating contest in Tel Aviv?

Are we even sure we know what their protesting about though?
maybe its not the Bikini thing, maybe there protesting simply because they dont want this worthless, superficial and pointless charade in their country

Does anyone actually care about this contest or is it just another excuse to Muslim bash?
If its Muslim bashing, plenty of better stuff out there than this.
If you care about the contest, No point saying anything, there is no hope for you

You know what?
I really don't think they'd care. They certainly wouldn't force the thing to shut down with threats of violence.
As much as people like to criticize Israel, Israel and Islam are poles apart.

sooner or later the world is going to wake up and realize that Islam is a cancer that affects even its own adherents, making victims of us all. There are no winners in Islam.

Bali is part of Indonesia..... So they have just moved it to a part of their country that is more accessible to tourists.

Why not hold the Miss World contest in some conservative part of some Israeli city?

And then when the conservative Jews protest the same contest, I dare people like you to call their beliefs a "virulent cerebral malady".

Islam and Israel are "poles apart" in the sense, Islam acknowledges Jesus as the Messiah, born of a virgin whereas Israel's Jewish population believe Jesus is a false prophet, born of a whore.

The fact that many "Christians" love the Jewish anti-Christs who hate Jesus is indeed mind boggling.

I know you live in their country as an ex-pat, but you're basically sying here;

"This is nothing at all. This pageant is worthless, not even worth mentioning. It's just more muslim bashing!"

When they, themselves, in response to this meaningless and worthless event, are threatening VIOLENCE and damage..

I rekon they deserve a bashing for being morons. If it's so meaningless an event, and yet they protest and burn effigy's, and people then say it's an attack on those perpetrating ignorant violence? I have to just give up...

"They're only violent and dangerous when you annoy them and don't do what they say! If you bend over, and take it like a victim, you'll have nothing to worry about."

sod that... literally.

I know right, lets go burn something.. maybe something like a childrens book. Maybe get a few hundred thousand of us all to make a stand against something. It has to be really important, like wearing socks with sandals.

Off with the heads of anyone wearing socks and sandals.

Yeah, religion... take off the training wheels, already...

Oh don't get started on that crap. This is about hardline Islamists forcing their religious beliefs on all of Indonesia even though all of Indonesia doesn't believe in what they do. It's got nothing to do with Israel or the Jews or your continued screams of 'antichrist' towards the Jews. As far as 2 billion Christians are concerned YOU are an anti-christ because you are Muslim who denies that Jesus is God incarnate.

The Muslims there threaten violence against people who don't believe like them. They are pushing their beliefs onto others and forcing them to conform to beliefs that they dont' buy into. The so-called 'religion of peace' once again threatening violence over NOTHING.
If those people want to buy into Islam .. that's their choice. But the continued forcing of others to adhere to the Muslim beliefs ... forcing with threats of violence ... is uncivilized and ignorant.

Hey Dude,

Im in Malaysia, Here while being an Islamic country its a bit more secular due to the fact they acknowledge (to a certain extent) that other peoples beliefs are valid.
The majority of these protesters in Indonesia I would wager are ignorant farmers who have been bused in by their local clerics to make a scene.

I personally think all religions are a cancer, not just Islam.
Everywhere you go people are people, they just want to live their lives, have enough food and shelter and see their children do better than they did. This is universal!!!

You bring in religion and all of a sudden its us versus them and "were better coz our invisible man in the sky says so".

I respect customs, Asian cultures in general are more conservative and it is not part of their way of life to parade around in Bikinis. Countries that do have these sorts of behaviors going on its due exclusively to foreign influence, Thailand being a great example.

Whether for religious reasons or not I applaud whoever decided to make a stand and keep this joke of a contest, that basically objectifies women and makes people concentrate on superficiality instead of brains and personality, out of their country

Threatening lives was a bit much but its not just Muslims who think this is disgusting,

Parents protest "toxic" pageants in Australia

Do you think the majority of muslims care?
you have a country with 150 million odd people, according to the OP a few thousand turn out for a protest, and go overboard. Roughly 0.001% of the population.
These people are religious nuts, same as the Westbro Christians, same as the Jews who say all arabs should be expelled from Israel.

Im really curious how many of you calling for an end to Islam actually know any Muslims?

Saying these people represent Islam well is like saying the USA represents Christianity well.

I think there is a need to present an Islamic perspective on things like that.

Beauty contests are shallow events, making girls compete about something they didnt really achieve(although now cosmetic surgery is common)
these contests are aimed at selling cosmetics and obviously they are organised at places where there is a poential market.

Islam ideally gives a higher respect to women where they don't feel the need to paint their faces with chemicals to have a bit more self esteem.
Also exposing ones nakedness is not welcomed in Islam, and it is disgusting to do it for fame or money.

Organising such events is equal to subliminal cultural attack of one culture over another which has completely different views and principles.

Islam makes women focus more on her nature and her spirituality and so the first thing that she needs to protect herself from is that she does not become a materialistic consumer blinded by the flashy world to do shallow things and get praised for them and go into a spiral that robs her spirituality and God given nature.

Islam is basically against a lot of things that are now accepted and even desired in the West.
The reason is just one, those things make people love the world more and drift away from spirituality and God.

God is the Truth, Afterlife is a Truth and muslims want to live by these Truths unlike most westerners/christians who think they would think about it when it comes to that
but now too busy at wanting to be a cheerleader or an actress/model etc etc
Glamour blinds people and so Thanks but no Thanks.

Yeah, right. That's funny.

Islam .. women can't inherit money like a man ... women can't have the same level of respect in a courtroom that a man has ... women can't leave their home without a male family member escort .... women can't drive according to some in Islam ... women can't have an education according to some in Islam ... husbands can, and should, beat their wives ... husbands can go get sex elsewhere if the wife dares to say 'no, I"m not in the mood tonight' (she's a sex object instead of a human being with feelings) ... women get beaten for showing an ankle or a foot in a sandal, beaten by 'morals police' .... Imams preach the proper ways to beat wives ... women can't get an education for a high paying job in Iran anymore because the men are afraid that women will be independent and not want to marry them (I sure wouldn't want to marry a Muslim man ... not a freak'n chance). etc etc

Lets get one thing clear here ... Girls are not made to OR forced to enter

they do so of their own free will

they are not empty headed but using what they basically were born with to enter the

equivalent of

# A lottery

# The X Factor

# A job application

A one chance to launch themselves into a lucrative career

Many finalists are student doctors lawyers etc. so they are not mindless or stupid

They are not indecently clothed ... go on any beach and you will find women topless or with

less on without the face or figure to go with said

No one, at least on this thread, has said beauty contests should be banned.
Let me as a white, culturally christian, hetrosexual, Australian male be the first, beauty contests should be banned!!!
They promote nothing positive and you truly have your head up your behind if you believe they offer anything beneficial to society.
At the end of the day do I care 1 way or the other though, No.

Now thats out of the way, these people ARE choosing to be Muslim, and in a Muslim country I might add, so maybe we should respect their values (whether we agree with them or not) and understand this sort of thing goes against their culture.

Just because you think its OK doesnt mean everyone else has too.

Its amazing you dont see the irony here, you talk about pushing beliefs and values on people like its exclusively a Muslim thing. Your basically advocating the same thing here!!!!
Holding the Miss World pageant in a country that has certain customs regarding modesty is completely disrespectful and antagonising.

If you approve of Women parading around in underwear to be judged like prize cattle thats your choice, but the continued forcing of others to accept the western ideals.... and forcing them with threats of economic ruin..... of women as sex objects is uncivilised and ignorant.

Funny .. because your next sentence has YOU saying that they should be.

beauty contests should be banned!!!

:shk:

They promote nothing positive and you truly have your head up your behind if you believe they offer anything beneficial to society.

You truly have your head up your behind (your words) if you think that you should be pushing your morals on others. It's none of our business if people want to have them or not. And Logical and his Sharia-Law have no business pushing their morals on others. Don't like it?? Then don't look. Live and let live.

so maybe we should respect their values

Maybe the Muslims should respect other peoples values and butt out of their business.

Just because you think its OK doesnt mean everyone else has too.

And turning that around .. just because you think it's not OK doesn't mean that everyone else has too.

as for the rest of your post it was just blah blah blah.
No one forces women to compete. THEY WANT TO.
And if people don't like it ... then they can ignore it.
Live and let live ... and quit forcing your morals on others.

LMAO

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

Allow me to repeat my 1st sentence of the previous post with some emphasis so you understand my point

No one, at least on this thread, HAS said beauty contests should be banned.
LET MEas a white, culturally christian, hetrosexual, Australian male BE THE FIRST, beauty contests should be banned!!!

You truly have your head up your behind (your words) if you think that you should be pushing your morals on others.

Im not pushing anything on anyone, I was offering my opinion

It's none of our business if people want to have them or not. And Logical and his Sharia-Law have no business pushing their morals on others. Don't like it?? Then don't look. Live and let live.

Then surely by the same token it should be none of your business if people dont want them in their country and protest about it???

Maybe the Muslims should respect other peoples values and butt out of their business.

Maybe the event organisers should respect the countries values and not hold things like this in those sorts of places.

And turning that around .. just because you think it's not OK doesn't mean that everyone else has too.

Never said anyone had to do anything, quite frankly I dont care. I dont really have a dog in this fight but I know enough about the world and can appreciate cultural differences enough to know some places, some things just shouldnt be done.

Why is that so hard for the rest of you to understand

Did you ever hear of these religious nuts protest about Miss world when it was run anywhere else?
NO you didnt, they are protesting because people are trying to IMPOSE OUTSIDE CUSTOMS and way of life on THEIR SOCIETY!!!!!

Live and let live ... and quit forcing your morals on others.

By saying these people should accept this contest in their society YOU are effectively forcing your morals on them, your level of hypocrisy astounds me.

And your right, no one forces these women in these contests, no one forces young girls to become bulimic or have serious psychological issues because they cant live up to what they see as pretty either.

Well well well I find this some what hypocritical

17 year old Vania Larissa was crowned 'Miss World Indonesia 2013' on February 20th 2013

and she is to be representing Indonesia in the up and coming 'Miss World' beauty pageant in

September 2013.

OK so actually doing some due dilligence I have found out a few things.

The Indonesian representative is actually Christian, so if anything it actually demostrates that Indonesia doesnt impose its Sharia beliefs on others

They dont oppose the pageant (I do) they just dont want it to take place near a heap of religious schools as it was planned to.

The threats of violence consisted of the top cleric in East Java saying

“We want to build a country of morals, not one of hedonism,” he said.
“Don’t let there be conflict arising from this. End it now while there’s still time.”

Scary scary stuff

And finally the protests by Feminists in Cyprus in 2000 and fundamentalist Hindus in India 1996 were a hell of alot worse.

Maybe we should all start getting pissed at femos and Hindus for "daring to impose their morals" on all of us.
