Think-Tank and Intelligence Community reports are notorious for assessing worst-case scenarios and causing "paranoia" to run rampant across the bureaucracy.

Having said that, history does teach us that every world-power and economy has a "curve." Entropy gets us all in the end.

So imagine that you are POTUS. In front of you is a report that details the fairly accurate probabilities that will face the nation when/if the economy collapses.

Massive sociopathic chaos, looting, death, rapes, starvation and suffering on a historical and horrific scale.

The only way to prop up the US Dollar, it seems, is to insure the petrodollar or else face the collapse and all that would entail in this selfish era of ours.

Our, ahem, Leaders are somewhat victims, too, in this scenario. Is this how they are able to personally justify their actions and look at themselves in the mirror?

If that IS the choice they believe they face, what about you? Which would you choose?

It is hard to believe it all boils down to this.

What would I choose?

If I were a leader, first off, I wouldn't be a puppet!! That is first and foremost!!

Tell YOUR people what is going on and have them lend opinions on what to do...

I would understand I do not have all the answers and neither do the lobbyists, the elite, etc.....(Then again the elite and lobbyists wouldn't exist if I were in power)....

If the government was just honest with it's people from the start, people would actually trust in their decisions....No hidden agenda, no action taken until properly voted on by THE PEOPLE, no money in politics.....

This is just a start to how I would handle this mess we are in and a big reason of WHY we are in it in the first place!!

The Petrodollar is a big part of it. No doubt. But I don't think that's why Obama is doing what he's doing. I think he has other, more personal motives. He's helping Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood. I'd bet a box of donuts that the petrodollar is a side issue for him ... convenient to use that as an excuse to further hid own agenda.

Yep ... I said it.

Well, if I had to choose, I would choose the chaos in the US.
First, its the only way we will eventually get back on the right track. And second, for the most part, we are pretty good at taking care of our own, when necessary.

Some day, someone will realize that we need to be fixed more here and quit worrying about everyone else for a while.
Maybe?
Possibly?

Yep. And he's a reptilian shape-shifter too - did you know that? His goal is to kill everyone on the planet, except for his fellow black muslim reptilian shape-shifter brothers -- bwa ha ha ha ha!!!

I would agree with this sentiment. The petrodollar is only one small aspect of the bigger picture. It's a pawn used to keep other pieces on the board in check. It allows certain people in high places the ability to maintain wealth and control over others. It really isn't a matter of civilization ending as we know it,and if it is, then that is because that is precisely what they want.

These people have billions and billions (trillions even) of dollars. They hold the wealth of the earth in their hands. They have access to the best technology the greatest minds of our time have to offer. Are we really so blind as to think that the entire human race can't figure out how to power our houses and our vehicles by more efficient means? We can put a man on the moon, take pictures of places in the universe hundreds or thousands of light years away, potentially colonize mars, yet we can't figure out an alternative to fossil fuels? Really!?

If we wanted to we could stop using fossil fuels completely within 50 years. There might even be technology out there that will never see the light of day which could reduce that figure to 10 years or less, but that is pure speculation. The fact remains, if we spent less time being greedy and storing up treasure for ourselves for this life and killing others to do so, and more time developing alternative forms of energy and commerce, the petrodollar would be a non-issue.

It's a control mechanism. Nothing more.

I think there are cross purposes and all the players use situations to their advantage. The OP may have a good reason behind what the true motivations are. This was claimed well back in 2003 when we went into Iraq. All I do know is we're not in Kansas anymore.

You are completely correct, but the only way this would ever happen would be after the end of a capitalist system.

It will be a long time before we get away from oil. Look around you at all the things that have petrochemicals in them? Sure, we might someday soon move away from gasoline, but nearly everything has plastics and other petrochemical ingredients.

Admittedly I believe the issues are complex. But I also personally believe that the basic thrust of this OP is part of the behind the scenes pressure put on Presidents by the intelligence community/military-industrial complex.

A lot of interesting discussion here so far. I've also been very proud of our ATS community in fearlessly speaking their minds all over these boards even though we know we run the risk of being added to watch lists and such and having our true patriotism mislabeled.

Life to me these days has become like some end-of-the-world Hollywood mega-flick with spooky sci-fi techno-toys thrown in to keep us under control. Coming Soon to a (War) Theatre Near You!

I still believe in the occasional happy ending, though. At least I like to believe in them

Don't fool yourself. Obama as well as every president since Kennedy has been a puppet. The question is, how do you take back national sovereignty from people who hide behind corporations and fantastic amounts of money?

I have considered this one, some deeper secret is presented to help justify some pain to prevent a greater pain. Sounds like the ugly, wicked men have been playing there games if this is the case. Sure the US economy is in big trouble, for those pushing the lies and corruption they do need to keep them going to maintain their position. As for how the US does get out of this economic mess:

1/ It can continue with its war plunder and maintain the status quo. International resistance is building and there is still a long way to go for complete global domination.

2/ Reinvestigate 9/11. I know this appears to hard with all the political, structural and economic fallout, but the forces behind this are not getting better, but bigger in their aspirations. I know wall street is an important institution in terms of global organization, but if it is just going to make a mess of this world then the world is better of with out it.

3/ Just keep going and take the issues as they come. The question of international integrity is of huge concern at the moment. With all the global oversight and resources it cannot clearly define the reality of the situation without hidden agendas and special interests getting in the way. If the international community cannot even agree on the facts there is no chance it will be able to agree on what needs to be done.

Good question Gut.
Those might be the obvious issues at play here but my suspicion is that the dirt on Obama is threatening to catch up with him and begin impeachment proceedings. Syria is nothing but a smokescreen to ensure domestic problems don't come to light. Once a war gets going nothing else holds the public's attention.

Not only is it Egyptian officials claiming they have documents linking Obama to the Muslim brotherhood but an article by Wayne Madsen says that big brass at the Pentagon has the same. If true Obama is really on a very short leash and bound to bite someone.

I think Syria is an exhibit of brinksmanship to occupy the public mind and give them more time to figure out how to extricate themselves from the hole they dug.

The gas pipeline through Syria benefits Western Europe far more than it does the US. Were it truly that important I think NATO would be the ones trying to initiate a greater conflict.

I guess our leaders are kind of victims as well, you make a good point, I believe it. It must be eating them up inside, at least some of them -

Our country is going to crash and burn because it seems to have been built on lies. I think that probably goes back to Freud's relative, Edward Barnays? He could be single-handedly responsible for the downfall of the U.S.

I would choose the crashing and burning of the U.S. because it would theoretically be better in the long run for us than prolonging things. Issues that aren't dealt with can tend to become worse, is all I am saying.

At any rate, it is hard to have any sort of opinion that is going to be good, because we are in such a mess.

I say give the people a chance to show everyone, that they arent murderers, looters or rapists.
I say give the people a chance to show everyone, that in light of a disaster and/or economic collapse, the people are willing and able to unite and help each other find a better way.
I say give the people a chance to show everyone, that they are a better people than what "fairly accurate probabilities" dictate.
I say give the people a chance!
