ETA: Now can someone tell me why my signature has back slashes in it, and how to change text color?

Maybe a thread telling us how to do those things that aren't done the way we did them before?

THis may have been addressed.....is there a notification of U2U's? I haven't seen one. Had a U2U sit in my box for a couple of days.

If not, is it planned as a revision?

The envelope in the upper right corner turns white if there is a U2U. It's a line drawing if there is nothing.

Getting used to it, although there does seem to be a lot of empty space

It would be nice to see who are mods.
That info isn't on the phone version.
Yet, there's plenty of space for it....

Just discovered I can use the desktop version on my phone.
It takes away all that empty space and provides the info I was missing on the mobile version

The "arrow down" beside - >logout. Gives you a second line of sub choices where you'll find "upload" in between "complain" and "chat".

Since my error report in the Board Business thread probably got buried, I have noticed a functionality issue beyond my complaints about the appearance.

Namely, those of us with signatures at the very limit of acceptable line count are having the lower sections of our sigs cut off. It seems like you've reduced the max number of text lines by one and in doing so screwed up many user signatures. Additionally, there's no function within the account options to preview your new sig or anything showing the max area/lines for it. With all the blank space around I'm sure you could easily expand the max signature area by a line or two.

I was really enjoying 5.3 and i was sorry when we reverted back.

I have just one question, sort of. When I click "New Topics", the page in the "old style" shows me three columns, new-stuff, stuff-with-the-most-flags and stuff-with-the-most-replies. I am able to glean a lot of information very quickly about the current state of the Forums and using that page has become a central part of my ATS experience.

While in 5.3 I looked everywhere I could for an equivalent page and didn't come up with one for myself; am I missing it? Or will there not be that sort of page in 5.3?

I don't know what's up I can't even log in to the beta site. Every time I enter the username and password, I get an error message that states I have entered incorrect info.

Any help would be appreciated? Thanks in advance

I am fairly sure that the new 5.3 version is down for further tweaking.

Thank you, thank you for the momentary reprieve. I'm grateful to have a chance to suck up all the old ATS I can for the moment and enjoy those favorite features and niceties that when finally changed-over aren't ever coming back. There ain't going to be an "ATS Classic" hitting the shelves.

A lot of stuff on Wikipedia is semi-transparent, and won't display on a dark background.
To make it display properly, you have to force a white background, regardless of the color selection made by the ATS user (white or dark).

The way I did that on the previous ATS (before 5.3) was to use the "EXNEWS" tag to force a light background. Here is an example I posted in a recent science thread:

ATS 5.3 broke what was working because the color of the EXNEWS area changed from light to dark.
Here's what the graph looks like without the EXNEWS tags:

It's much harder to see this way.

Is there another way to generate the light background needed? Any other suggestions/workarounds?

Of course even if a new method is found that works with ATS 5.3, it won't fix the older posts where the color has changed within EXNEWS tags. So making the EXNEWS color the same as on older ATS versions might not be a bad idea. Can this be done?

Hey I know i have mentioned this a couple of times but i haven't had a answer yet or if i have then i have missed it so sorry if that is the case.

BUT

Something desperately needs to be done about the size of the posts text boxes and all that space on the right, why is it not possible just to expand the text boxes to the right to fill that space!

Please it would make new ATS perfect and i can't understand why its not being done

There is not. It bothered me at first but I got over it.

"New" is like the old firehose but it also shows flag and post count, all lined up and easy to see.. I just scroll down and look for flags if that's what I am after or I scroll down to the last thing I saw and work my way up if I am using it like firehose...

I actually feel kind of lost on this old version now..

I read in one of the 5/3 threads that the empty space on the right is reserved ad space for non-logged-in users & members with low participation. SO's post on that here.

Also SO posted early this morning that he has decreased the "vertical space" for the post boxes by 2%. (I think it's the profiles that are driving the height of the empty space) That post is here.

I know that doesn't help the empty spaces, but at least there is an explanation.

Well basically in this old version a post can only be so small (the size of the avatar).. So the empty space in this version is taken up inside the post box.. This actually bothers me.

In the new version the empty space is outside the post box, because the post box stays the same size as the words you right (plus your sig)..

Here is the 2% quote from SO:
"ATS.5/3 site uses about 2% less vertical space than the old ATS.2010 site"

Whilst i dont like the idea that its basically been cut down for advertisement space i can understand why that has been done.

I would guess there is no chance of SO changing this then if its for add space....
