BREAKING: Obama Signs Two New Executive Orders On Gun Control

Source

Rather than wait for Congress to pass new laws Obama bypassed them today..

The first order seeks to close a loophole, which allows felons and others who would be otherwise prohibited from owning firearms to bypass the law by registering their firearms with a trust or corporation....

...The second order signed by Obama seeks to prohibit military-grade weapons from entering into America by keeping private entities from re-importing guns that the US previously sent to foreign allies...

No doubt many of you -- even many second-amendment supporters among you -- will see this as a good thing, or at least not the end of the world. The new laws are presented in a way that makes it look like America is just protecting itself from ex-cons and shady foreigners...two perpetual bogiemen used time and again to get Americans to open their wallets for more taxes or give up more civil liberties.

Well I say no. Sorry, but I am a second-Ammendment fundamentalist. ANYTHING the government does to undermine free gun ownership is the camel's nose under the tent, the slippery slope, the frog in the boiling pot of water...pick your metaphor of choice.

Make no mistake about it -- the government in general and the Obama Administration in particular want your guns. They will chip and chip and chip away at your rights until one day you will wake up and wonder how we fell so far so fast. If you have learned nothing from the last decade this modus operandi should at least be clear by now.

I suggest everyone read and re-read the bill of rights, and the second Ammendment in particular. In fact, it's nice to have a copy of your own, just to show people who try to infringe on your inalienable rights. Here's mine:

Fixed the source.

As for the topic, Gun control doesn't work.

Felons will find a way to use guns to kill people. So will the average joe.

common sense and logic.
good to see for a change!

1. close a loop hole allowing felons to get firearms
2. stop military grade weapons from reaching the streets

let the flaming begin!

Someone should go and do us all the kindness of sorting through ATS and finding the numerous threads where Obamabots pointed and laughed and exclaimed repeatedly: Obama isn't going after guns! That's been debunked! You're paranoid and stupid!

I went to the source and was not impressed. I visited the sites the source sourced and was not impressed. Not saying the story isn't legit, just saying give me something more legit.

Oh its all over the place, and most of it is ultimately worthless really...frankly its as limited as you could get without actually doing anything and will serve mostly as a distraction from something else.

You say... And I applaud you..."No doubt many of you -- even many second-amendment supporters among you -- will see this as a good thing, or at least not the end of the world. "

But let me add.. While those that cheer him for this... As you said, making it look like he's keeping the public safe.. He went and did it again!!! By-passed Congress-Senate and we the people and made a dicKtator decision.

It almost seems hopeless however threw history, Rome will fall and good will prevail. It just suxs a lot of people have and will die for it.

The laws are already in effect, and were enacted by Congress. Obama just closed loopholes, which are perfectly legal executive actions.

In fact, The Constitution mandates that the president ensure that laws enacted by congress are carried out effectively.

Anybody complaining about these two EOs are saying they disagree with the constitution.

That seems so logical though, it is almost as if nothing Obama does now really matters except what he finishes in Syria. With the election of another President everything will change except the flaws in the whole system and all the random nonsense will start all over again.

What does that have to do with the disinfo given in the OP?

The weapons are old antique WW2 M1 Garands that were loaned to Korea back in the 1950s and are now collectors guns.

These M1s can not take a take high-capacity magazines only 8 round en-block clips.

WOW !!

ROFLOL

With all the suspense and drama,

I would have thought he would actually do something

Neither EO matters.

The criminals will always get guns.

Any kind, any time, any place.

Plus, it won't lower the murder rates.

actually, they are good EOs. Doing his constitutionally-mandated duty to ensure congressional laws are faithfulky executed is a responsible and necessary thing to do

First, an observation - Nothing like banging on the drums of war to distract the public...coincidence? Maybe..
.
Neither of these changes is really going to do much to reduce gun crime (which, if I'm not mistaken, was the stated goal)

I'm kind of OK with the 1st one - I think it's probably responsible for an employee that is being armed to get a background check before they're handed a firearm...
Don't like the way it's being done but I guess I'm ok with it at first glance.

The "military surplus" change seems like trouble though...

Since I keep hearing the term "military grade weapons", I'm going to assume we're talking about fully automatic firearms (correct me if I'm wrong please).

Here's my problem
We take these weapons out of the country to, let's say, a combat zone...and then we just leave them there?
I'm sure the "technical" answer is that we destroy them...ya right...apparently black markets & human nature don't exist overseas...

So now, on top of giving them a whole bunch of stolen cash & goods, our enemies get to inherit everything we brought over with us as well!! Sounds fantastic...what could possibly go wrong?

Also, I'd like to point out that 250,000 transactions since 2005 is nothing in the gun sales world.
And on top of that I'm willing to bet you that very very few (who knows...maybe even none) of these firearms were used to commit a crime.
So what exactly is the benefit of this one again?

What I'm genuinely worried about though is that they're just using this opportunity to test the waters & see how far they can push the whole executive order thing.

AND - on top of that, it has the little side benefit of creating that ever important precedent for them.
Guess we'll eventually get to see them try & stick their foot a little farther in the door...they always do.
