Heh,"Brief and Limited." Just like Korea,Vietnam,Iraq and Afghanistan? Reassuring and empty words for the lemmings who buy into the left/right scam. When this does not turn out to be "Brief and Limited" what will be his excuse? "Our brave fighting men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice to bring freedom to the people of Syria and our Al-Qeda fighters."

I agree that this is likely to spiral out of control real quick. Just like that video in the other headline thread of this moment, where the short fat bully gets absolutely battered by his intended victim. An intended victim who was incredibly patient and restrained himself in the face of great provocation, until the little fat bully threw a punch at his head.

Seriously America/UK/France (and I'm British) - I hope we don't all end up getting a can of Russian, Iranian and Chinese ass-kicking. Israel seems quiet at the moment - but how long will that last if the conflict becomes a conflagration? They have nukes, and are surrounded by hostile/semi-hostile nations. It could get really ugly, really quickly. And I'm not saying Israel would necessarily be to blame if a wider conflict occurred with Arab nations; the Jihadis have been poisoning the waters, let alone muddying them, for a VERY long time.

ETA - Breaking down the paradigm for a moment; they might all intend for this to spiral out of control, so they can rebuild a Utopian society after the masses have died off. That's really pessimistic, but if the major Superpowers & Allied nations/ Arab states 'collapsed', it would be a long time before any of the minor nations rose up to Superpower status again, independently at least.

Utopia would last a long time for those with the means to buy a ticket.

ETA2 - Breaking down the paradigm even further - some of the players, at the most senior levels, literally worship death and destruction.. Human sacrifice is like eating candy for them. *shudders*

I woke this morning with Obama's evil face speaking of a "need" to "send a message" without a redo of Iraq. Suggested lobbing tomahawk cruise missiles at areas of the Regime to "remind" them "it's not ok" to use chemical weapons (read: oppose American will).

Retired generals, retired congressman et al are all professing it needs to be done now or else Obama will appear weak.

Active congressman are kicking and stomping their feet because Obama won't go to them for war authorization.

"Well gollie g, It would be so much easier if Obama reached out to us for a resolution".

What? Really? You wish?
its law you dumb ass.
this is the new America folks.

Oh one last thing.......

Syrian War: Brief and Limited ..... Which means Obama is going to go throw rocks at terrorists and scream 'nya nyaa nyaaaa' ... and then run away. He'll poke the hornets nest with a big stick and ignore the consequences.

There is nothing 'brief and limited' about it. The ripple effect would be huge.

Going into Syria in ANY manner is a major mistake ... and we'd be fighting for the wrong side.

Everything Obama is doing with this goes in the direct opposite direction of the rhetoric he's pumped out for years. I can't figure out why he's doing this. He's either a complete idiot OR he wants America to fail. (or both).

The initial U.S. strike may very well be "brief and limited".

The response by other parties, and the unfolding of events therein -- may very well NOT be "brief and limited".

I think this is first time I ever agreed with your postition on anything! I dont think Obama is an idiot or wants America to fail. I think his personality is preventing his advisors from helping him with open and honest opinions on things. In other words he has a bunch of Yes men working with him due to the way he seems arogant. I don't even think he means to be it is just part of his personality.

I think he wants America to be a different America than the one you want and that is where you and others get so frustrated with him. He is not full socialist and definately not communist but he does lean toward socializing many things he deems as American right, like Health Care, Education.

Honestly I think it is the back and forth our Nation goes through in between Democrat and Republican rule that has made us so succesful. Niether way left unchanged leads to success but we get balance by it ever chaging.

We diffinately don't need to get involved with Syria. If anything we should have helped Assad control the muslim extreemists. Had we taken that approach maybe we could have had more influence on Assad as friends rather than be killing ever more people.

They want it to be "Brief and Limited" because its not an oil baring nation (paycheck) like Iraq/Afghanistan...Dont really think theres much the US government can pillage from the stricken country so I bet they want it over quickly...

They lied about intel which led to the Vietnam war
They lied about intel on WMD's being in Iraq which lead to war

Now, someone actually does use a chemical weapon...Well, USA has to do something to save face for chasing ghost stories for the past decade.

P.S. - If Syria had oil, America would have "liberated" the country years ago. I bet the military knew about Syrias weapon capability looooooong ago but wasnt worth the effort

It doesn't matter what they say, they have been working so hard to make military intervention possible with the least amount of domestic and international protest. With that said, they have been planning military action the entire time and were just waiting until the the U.S allies (Al-Qaeda) were successful in using gas based weapons.

We all knew that at some point the US was going to intervene militarily in Syria, the only question was, what excuse were they going to use and how much force would be applied. The notion that it will be some limited 3 day operation to "send a message" is a complete and total farce. We could have launched a three day campaign with a third of the naval forces we have in the region.

Americans don't wan't this "war". Assad or the "rebels" , they both hate us and we are aiding, funding and are going to fighting alongside the same group our government claims was responsible for 9/11.

Fighting with people that hate us against other people that hate us? Yeah, what could possibly go wrong there?

Brief and limited... and then what?
I mean, we bombed the crap out of Libya too, called it a success when the "rebels" took control and our glorious leaders breathed a collective sigh of relief that Gaddafi wasn't alive to tell tales. Now, Libya is a shining beacon of peace and democracy in the region and everyone is happy and it was all done with no impact to any civilian infrastructure. Oh, and their gold and currency is just "resting" in those western bank accounts!

So, here we go again, another on the master list of states to overthrow, and the post Assad plans are .... what? I feel sure that the likes of Obama and Cameron have the post war future all mapped out and as soon as Assad is gone (and also unable to tell tales), everything will be fine and dandy and everyone will take to the streets and rejoice at the freedoms and liberty they have!

This situation is not good either way.It appears Iraq violence is getting worse and this Syria conflict keeps getting worse even if the U.S.does not attack.Looks bad either way.
I think the U.S. still is going to attack Syria even though reports claim it is being postponed because the situation is still grim both ways.Matter of time until something sparks this into possible WW3.

Yeah I agree the situation is going to get much worse, I mean just look at what happen to Iraq and they had no chemical weapons. In Syria's case they have no oil, but they do have chemical weapons. I imagine if I was Assad I would distribute chemical weapons nearby rebel strongholds, too inflict as much damage as I can before Nato takes me out.

Iraq had no chemical weapons? What did they use them all up when they gassed the 40+ Kurdish villages in 1988?

Back in the day the Soviet Union wouldn't allow a ground war even if Iraq had chemical weapons. By the time Bush invaded Saddam had no use for chemical weapons, seeing he already had Iraq in order unlike Syria.

It will be brief and limited all right. Probably wont last more than a day and will end up with mushroom clouds over Washington and Moscow. And the Middle East. I really fear this is what we are looking at folks. I have a really bad feeling about this. I hope to high heaven I am wrong and I will be very happy if I am. But tonight this is my gut feeling.

The only "brief and limited" thing I see is what they tell us as to why they are killing our 20 year olds once again.

The problem with that "brief and limited" moment is it will be a damn lie ..........just like everything else.

The US is losing support domestically and internationally - and it didnt have much to start with.

If Assad falls, the terrorists (or so called rebels) are splintered - they will not form any sort of govt. The state will be torn by civil war.

If the US does proceed with attacks - Syria and Iran may strike sensitive oil targets within their range, and its a target rich environment. There are oil pipelines, refineries, ports and possibly tankers. If they respond in this way, and they respond with a total all out attack - they will cripple the world economy, and cause the collapse of the US dollar and basically every other fiat currency.

Iran and Syria have the firepower required, and I believe they have the will - the possible fallout from attacking them is of insane proportions - and is not at all justifiable in any logical or sane mind.

It may well be over very quickly, with Iran and Syria virtually untouched and the rest of the world, especially the US economically crushed.

this is not about being brief or limited its about regime change, and if you watched the UK parliament debate today you could clearly see Cameron working hard for a fast response with no smoking gun, pushing that Assad used these weapons without any proof!!! George Galloway sums it up awesomely, and the people have spoken in the UK they are against the intervention. Good for them!!! I think the American people should do the same! www.abovetopsecret.com...

I agree, your US and my UK could have worked with Assad to eliminate the terrorists that comprise of mostly Al-qiada and other religious sects, in our big "war on terror"...however, for whatever reason, the people in charge of both our countries choose to ignore all the other atrocities in non-oil rich countries and focus on the last remaining block to Iran. Today our own PM publicly stated that it was Assad that used the chemical weapons, and literally 10 minutes or so later, also said that no-one could tell 100% who used the weapon, but that we should make a judgement....etc... politics at work. This colour is red....except when its green, but to us its still red because we made a judgment. And it's not about invading a country, or attempting to change the regime....hello? who's funding and supplying the "rebels"?

Jeez, I'm glad I'm a member of this site, or else I might get arrested for venting....
