I woke up too early this morning. I don't usually catch the "Morning Joe" show, but this morning, sipping on my first cup of coffee, I got some REAL "shock and awe", as in AWFUL!

We're used to seeing some cutting edge, soft porn performed by super stars like Madonna, Lady Gaga, etc., at MTV's VMA awards, but no one could have been prepared for this insanely raunchy "Teddy Bear Party!

Warning: sexuallity explicit content

Miley Cyrus, who was Disney's darling, girl next door/secret rock star, Hanna Montana, who all little girls wanted to be like, and all young boys wanted to "like" is trying to throw of her "good girl" image and leave childhood behind. But Teddy Bears are hardly an adult image. This choreographed performance demonstrated more sexual exploitation of pre-teens than the natural maturity we would hope to observe from this budding young woman's career.

The talking heads are all abuzz!

www.latimes.com...

On MSNBC, "Morning Joe" co-anchor Mika Brzezinski was not amused by the performance at all. After showing a clip of the performance coming out of a commercial, Joe Scarborough and the other panelists were joking about it, but not Brzezinski, who called it "really, really disturbing."

She went on: "That young lady, who is 20, is obviously deeply troubled, deeply disturbed. Probably has confidence issues, probably an eating disorder. And I don't think anybody should have put her up on stage. That was disgusting."

"Today" show co-anchor Willie Geist characterized it as "a big Disney over-correction," citing Britney Spears as another example of a sweet kid actor who felt the need to oversexualize herself to show that she's no longer a child.

The Parents Television Council also got in on the outrage, issuing a statement from director of public policy Dan Isett that said: "MTV has once again succeeded in marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars and condom commercials -- while falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable."

This photo captured of Will Smith and his family's reaction to Cyrus' performance is priceless!

The Smith Family reaction was for Lady Gaga (you can see it in the bottom corner). Someone mischaracterized it for Cyrus.

The Miley Cyrus debacle was hilariously morose. Seeing her with that foam finger reminded me of a group of teenage boys. I half expected her to draw a penis on something, then start giggling.

Then she takes off the bear outfit and shows the world her atomic wedgie shoved up her pancake butt. I blacked out after that, mostly from shock but partly from the convulsions.

I just don't get it. Do these people not have someone helping guide their careers?

Yeah, I checked it out. Imo it had nothing to do with "sexy". It was vulgar. Billy Ray should be slapped.

That picture of the Smith family is priceless-they all look as though they are going to vomit-maybe Mommy Smith is actually in the process..

Its actually really sad to think that young girls want to behave this way because they think it makes them cool.
It makes them look degraged and cheap IMO.
Thank the gods I don't have a daughter-she would probably hate me for making her behave, wear decent clothes, and ban her from soaking up all the crap that is aimed at teens on TV these days.

That poor girl in the video also looks like she's on drugs, which makes it twice as degrading.
But hey,she thinks she is cool...

I am not impressed by her at all. She comes across as trying too hard and going against who she really is at her core. Her performance I think was embarrassing and ridiculous.

Hmm, I stand corrected! www.huffingtonpost.com...

But, I imagine that if the camera DID catch their reaction, it would be similar!

He might be part of her 'issues'.
Did you guys see the photo shoot she did with him a few years back?
Completely inappropriate.

It is a provocation act and since people are upset it worked as intended. Even if I find it a bit far from my preference I still find her intention hilarious.

While I really don't give a rat's butt what she does, how is she any different than Madonna or any of the rest of them, I want to know who the idiot was that starting calling this move "Twerking"

Really?

Shes a disgusting pig now. I remember having to sit through Hannah Montana with my daughter, thinking that she may actually turn out allright.
Then her famous dad did an interview around 09 or so and said that the show and Disney ruined his families life and basically turned Miley into a completely different person.

Yeah, I checked it out. Imo it had nothing to do with "sexy". It was vulgar. Billy Ray should be slapped.

Shes 20 dude, he isnt even allowed past her "handlers" anymore.. Look up his interview that I just mentioned.

Miley's ass makes a chicken's ass look good.

I could eat the chicken, at least some good would come of it.

Great picture, and I completely agree.
Sadly, this stunt, likely orchestrated by her handlers has made her a more valuable product. Sad what our society values.

I came into this thread ready to defend the performance because that's what I do, defend expression and fight taboos.

However, this just didn't make any sense. She has to see that she is in a rather unique position of having countless children idolizing her yet she does exactly the opposite of what you want to see your kids emulating.

Look, I can understand her doing something to completely flush her past down the toilet so she can live as an adult but why have all the child-like imagery? It's not like this was a documentary about her being frustrated with child-stardom or anything. This was totally unexpected and seems to intentionally promote some very unsavory things.

If she came out with an actual message that explained it, I would look at it differently but it's totally left to the media to interpret and the pass along.

I'm not shocked or disgusted. I'm genuinely confused. Oh, and one good thing it did was to hopefully teach parents not to trust TV with their children.

Is it the artist are the industry around them to blame, there are some crazy stuff out there about "Disney" actresses and what they had to do to be famous...

ETA: Just had a thought, sexual abuse shows up in children as mimicked behavior. I wonder if there is a trend into adult hood that carries over to peoples "art".

I wonder if there has ever been a study on that, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a trend toward that.

Indeed! The Teddy Bear imagery is anything but adult! Also, I understand that MTV censored out the word "Molly" from her performance for TV. "Molly" is a name for a form of Ecstasy widely used by young people today. From what I understand, Miley's handlers thought it would pass, as people would think that the songs words "Dancing with Molly" would be heard as "Dancing with Miley", but MTV didn't agree.

Miley Cyrus Admits To Singing About Molly On 'We Can't Stop'

The singer sparked controversy in June when she released "We Can't Stop" -- a sexy dance anthem, rife with drug references. Though the song's producer first claimed the lyric was "dancing with Miley," not "dancing with molly" -- which is a slang term for MDMA -- Cyrus has set the record straight. And yes, the former Disney darling is singing about rolling.

Of course, any excuse to evoke Trayvon Martin is a good excuse to promote sexual exploitation and drug abuse of children!

Cyrus also opened up about the racy video for "We Can't Stop," which she complained was heavily edited by MTV UK. When asked by the paper what she would say to those who believe her video is too provocative, she quickly responds by referencing the Trayvon Martin case:

"Then I'll give you an edit. I just think the world is so lame because you can shoot people in a movie and you can let people like [George] Zimmerman off on trial but you can't have someone going like this [she simulates oral sex gesture], that is so dumb to me," Cyrus explained. "The world is such a f--ked up place the last thing people need to worry about is my cute little video for 'We Can't Stop,' you know what I mean?"
