Off topic which I'm sorry .. But that sheep in the first vid you posted zaph I want as an avatar lol going to have to ask someone how to get it

The first digital camera was made by Kodak in '75 -- you'd think they's slap some telescopic optics on it and send that puppy up there. And that was the first publically known digital camera.


That would be comparing a crude CCD readout to the most advanced mature optics & film system that Kodak and Perkin-Elmer could make.

Anyway, by 1986 I do know for a fact that astronomers were getting at least 1024x1024 CCD images from ground-based telescopes as astronomy transitioned to digital about then. (Data analysis on VAX & Sun-3)
