The oldest petroglyphs in North America found yet are near Pyramid Lake, Nevada and are just stunning!! Pyramid Lake is a remnant & deepest part on ancient Lake Lahontan which covered most of northwestern Nevada at the end of the last ice age. Petroglyphs are dating between 10,500 & 14,800 years ago.

I saw Pyramid Lake from a plane a few years ago and was like WHOA that is a crazy looking pyramid in a lake! LOL

Reminded me of the pyramids in Peru that were ancient but eroded.

Very nice,

Sure would liked to have seen the area in those days, it's one of the most barren deserts now.
I hope the site is on the reservation, as it would be well protected, they take their sovereignty very seriously, and any non tribe memeber on their land without a permit will be arrested.

On the subject of lake lohantan, I've got a paper detailing fish remains found in a midden at a pre Clovis site, the Witt site, near the intersection of CA hwy 41 and interstate 5 in Fresno county. There is evidence that the san Joaquin/ Sacramento river system was connected to the snake river via the feather river, that's that western mozt portion of lake lohantan. The researcher found a species of fish in the southern san Joaquin that is only found in one other place , the snake river.
The Witt site was occupied at the same time as these rock carvings were made.

that's pretty cool. A few summers ago i went on a raft ride through a canyon in Arizona, i remember we stopped to look at images that were carved in stone, truly a cool experience
