On the day Navy SEALs were raiding Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan and killing the 9/11 mastermind, President Obama didn’t spend every moment in the White House situation room. Instead, the commander in chief played cards in a private dining room that day, too — about 15 games of spades, in fact, his former personal assistant Reggie Love recently told a UCLA forum.

“Most people were like down in the Situation Room and [Obama] was like, ‘I’m not going to be down there, I can’t watch this entire thing,’” Love recalled during a Q&A at an Artists & Athletes Alliance event.

Potus Plays Cards

For those who would like another source :

On long Air Force One flights, one reporter noted, Obama, Love and other aides often spent hours playing spades, a card game that also came into play on the night Osama bin Laden was killed in his compound in Pakistan, Love told guests at the Artists and Athletes event.

While the U.S. military operation was overseen by the CIA and the president, Obama chose not to spend every moment in the situation room but nearby in an executive dining room with close aides, including Love. "We must have played 15 games of spades," Love recalled, interrupted by a steady stream of dispatches from the situation room. He added that when he left the White House later that night, after the president delivered news of bin Laden’s death, "there were thousands of people out on Pennsylvania Avenue, people crying and cheering. It was a very powerful, moving day."

UCLA

So Obama played cards most of the night while Seal Team Six was flying in to 'unfriendly' territory lost a multimillion dollar stealth helicopter, and supposedly kill Bin Laden.

I knew this was staged :

Just didn't know how staged it was.

Why does this not surprise me ?

Makes perfect sense when one thinks about Benghazi :

If he was playing cards while others were down in the situation room on arguably the most important night of his presidency, some will wonder, what might Obama have been doing on the night of the Benghazi raid more than a year later?

I report you decide.

Not too shocking. He is absentee in everything but his mouth.

Honestly, I don't find this surprising at all. I know we say that a lot to express our dismay at peoples actions, but I honestly was not surprised that Obama chose to play games over watching the Seal team take out Osama.

I mean, he goes on vacations like it's going out of style. All the time the American people are in need of leadership. :shakes head: And here we have people wondering why America is in the state it's in...

My question is... Was this a non-alcoholic card game or a smoking poker party with White House brew?

Speaking of Presidents and vices....Is he still a committed smoker with people sworn on pain of horrible torture to never photograph him toking on one...or did he finally quit? I haven't seen him in an unusually bad mood, so I figure he still smokes as he finds a spot outside camera range?

Come on Neo96 ...... you are stretching a bit.

He received "a steady stream of dispatches from the situation room" and was located in " a nearby private dining room".

Maybe he should have been on one of the choppers ?

We should be clear that Love didn’t specify which parts of the Situation Room activities Obama chose to skip.

Nice spin Neo.

I'm sure his stomach was turning in knots, knowing he'd sent a few men to what could quite easily be their deaths.

‘I’m not going to be down there, I can’t watch this entire thing,"

He sent them in. He was not giving blow by blow orders.

But, you're right. He should have stayed glued to the screen waiting for the killing to start like a bloodthirsty NeoCon.

Really? So, being in another room of the white house is bad now? What? Should he have been glued to the table, sweat dripping off his brow, knuckles white, fingernails chewed off, during the hours en route to the compound?

Pull the other leg.

Hmmm...Where did you get the idea that since he did not spend "every moment" in the situation room leading up to the actual green-light and go...that meant he wasn't there in the situation room?

If you leave your office to go to the bathroom, does that mean you did not come in to work that day?

And was not the dinning room nearby? With a "steady stream of dispatches"?

Aer you not aware that leading up to the actual "go" there was several hours of waiting for darkness and appropriate weather?

This OP seems the typical stretch for you...

I'm not trying to defend Obama but maybe he just couldn't sit still and had to busy himself with something other than watching their every move. It's not like he could intervene or make decisions once that command was given (I'm sure that is diverted to the military when in action) I would think anxious more than apathy in this case. If he had gone home and gone to bed I would see that as a problem but channeling that anticipation is a stress reliever.

Trying to consider the situation
So, he is waiting while things are unfolding. en-route, just a waiting game now.

So, you break out a deck of cards and burn time while nothing is happening.

I guess he could have simply watched a few movies instead, or sat in the situation room and ask every 2 minutes if they are still in route...maybe do some jogging...play the WII, etc.

How does one pass the time waiting for a big event to start.

oh...wait..sorry, lemme readjust the narratives
OMG, he was playing cards when he should have been eyes glued for hours on a screen showing nothing much?!!
How DARE he!

(better?)

Two sources that actually debunk YOUR claims...

Someone who does not "spend every moment" in a room during a day leading up to the OP....Does that translate to them spending "most of the night" someplace else?

And it doesn't translate to him not being in the room at all

Un-frikkin-believable!

A real leader couldn't have been pried away, much less stay focused on a bunch of stupid card games.

(I bet he wasn't in the delivery room either when Michelle gave birth....Is he a man or a mouse?)

You're good, you're real good...I'd almost peg you for a politician! Nice disclaimer. Anyone that's been on the boards for more than a few days knows that you primarily post/reply on anti-Obama pieces. It's blatently obvious from your past posting history you have an anti-Obama agenda (which is fine btw).

Even Captain Picard would wander off to his ready room when en-route to the Neutral Zone. And everyone loves Captain Picard.

Michelle gave birth in a Russian KGB lab manned by aliens, but you are right...that coward Obama should have been there!
